Today Cancelled Flights News: Due to the closure of airports in northern, western and central India, all commercial flights have been stopped till Saturday, May 10. This has had a major impact on air traffic.

Indian airlines have cancelled 430 flights, while Pakistani airlines have cancelled more than 147 flights. Many airlines have changed their routes to avoid sensitive areas, while foreign airlines are also flying on safe routes.

Amid rising border tensions, the Indian government has temporarily closed more than 25 airports in north, west and central India. According to reports, this decision will remain in force till May 10, 2025. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has issued NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) and has halted flight operations at 27 airports. According to TOI, this includes major airports like Leh, Chandigarh, Amritsar and Jodhpur. Due to this move, about 430 flights have been cancelled, which is about 3% of the total scheduled flights in the country. Let us tell you which other airports have been affected.

Which airports in India have been affected?

The airports that have been closed include Leh, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Patiala and Halwara in Punjab; Shimla and Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh; Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jaisalmer and Kishangarh in Rajasthan; Bhuj, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Mundra, Porbandar, Kandla and Keshod in Gujarat. In addition, the airlines said on X (earlier Twitter) that Gwalior and Hindon airports have also been affected. Airports that are mostly used for military flights have also been closed.

Foreign airlines are also changing routes

All airlines have either cancelled or rerouted their flights to avoid this sensitive zone. About 250 flights were already cancelled on Wednesday. Air India said that two of its international flights to Amritsar had to be diverted to Delhi. American Airlines also cancelled its flight from Delhi to New York. Most foreign airlines are no longer using Pakistani airspace. Instead, they are sending their flights through safe routes over Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

Airport operations have been halted

Flight operations at 21 airports in north and west India were suspended and over 300 flights were cancelled after Indian armed forces launched missile strikes on terror camps in Pakistan on Wednesday as part of “Operation Sindoor”. Major cities where airports have been closed include Srinagar, Leh, Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh and Jodhpur. Delhi airport is partially operational but over 140 flights have been cancelled there too.

The airline issued instructions

This ban has been implemented in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, parts of Uttar Pradesh and Delhi-NCR. This has affected air services across the country. Many airlines have canceled many of their flights and advised passengers to check their flight details before leaving for the airport.
Companies like Indigo, Air India, SpiceJet and Akasa Air have issued public notices regarding this. International flights to and from Amritsar and Delhi have also been affected – some flights have been canceled and some have been rerouted. These airlines have informed passengers about the affected flights on the social media platform X and asked them to be alert.

IndiGo has informed passengers that flights to and from Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh and Dharamshala are being affected by the changing airspace conditions. The airline has advised passengers to check their flight status before going to the airport. IndiGo also said that flights to and from Bikaner will also be similarly affected as some restrictions are in place there too.

IndiGo said on X on Thursday, “We are trying to support our passengers and make it easier for them to change their travel plans. As part of this, we are completely waiving the change and cancellation fees for those traveling to/from Srinagar. This discount is for travel up to 22 May 2025, provided the ticket is booked on or before 22 April 2025.”

Air India has informed that it has cancelled all flights to and from Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh and Rajkot till 12 noon on 7 May. Further information will be given after meeting the regulatory agencies. The airline also said that two international flights to Amritsar have been diverted to Delhi as air routes have been closed in some areas. Passengers have been appealed to keep their contact information updated on its website so that they keep getting timely information.

SpiceJet also expressed similar concerns and in an announcement said that all flights to and from Dharamshala, Leh, Jammu, Srinagar and Amritsar have been cancelled till further notice. The airline said that due to the closure of these airports, not only direct flights but also connecting flights will be affected. Passengers have been advised to plan their travel carefully and keep getting updates from SpiceJet’s official channels.
