]]> UPSC: After the controversy related to trainee IAS Pooja Khedkar, the government has taken another step to prevent fraud in the Union Public Service Commission. For the first time, the government has allowed UPSC to verify the identity of candidates through Aadhaar card in different phases of registration and recruitment examinations. However, this will be voluntary.

After getting permission from the government for Aadhaar-based authentication, the Ministry of Personnel and Training has also issued a notification in this regard. It states that UPSC is allowed to do authentication on a voluntary basis to verify the identity of candidates at the time of registration on the One Time Registration Portal and at various stages of the examination/recruitment test. For which Yes/No or/and e-KYC authentication facility will be used.

The notification also said that the Commission will have to follow all the provisions of the Aadhaar Act 2016, the rules and regulations made thereunder and the directions issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India.

Last month, UPSC cancelled the candidature of probationary IAS Pooja Khedkar. She has also been barred from appearing in all future examinations for attempting to cheat in the civil services examination. Pooja Khedkar has several charges against her including making fake disability certificate and OBC non-creamy layer certificate.
