EPFO Latest News: The Government of India has given many facilities to the middle class in this budget. In Budget 2025, the government has made many announcements and promises for the middle class.

After the tax exemption, now the government can take a big decision regarding the interest rate of Employees Provident Fund (PF). The meeting of the Central Board of Trustees of EPFO is going to be held on 28 February, in which there can be a discussion on increasing the interest rate on PF for 2024-25.

The official agenda of this meeting has not been released yet. At the same time, this meeting will be chaired by the Union Labor Minister and representatives of employer associations and trade unions will also attend it.

PF interest rate may increase

The main focus of the Government of India at this time is to increase the demand in the market and many steps are being taken for this. After not taking tax on income up to 12 lakhs, the government wants people to increase domestic consumption as much as possible by increasing their additional income. In such a situation, it is being speculated that the interest rate on PF for 2024-25 can be increased.

EPFO has so many account holders

The government did the same in the last two years. The interest rate of PF was made 8.15% in 2022-23 and 8.25% in 2023-24. Now looking at the base rate of banks, it can be said that there may be a slight increase in the interest rates of PF. Let us tell you that EPFO has accounts of more than seven crore people in the country. At the same time, according to the annual report of the year 2023-24, EPFO has seven crore 37 lakh account holders. Apart from this, the number of people depositing money in the pension fund of EPFO has also increased to about eight lakh.

The objective of Sukanya Yojana is to cover the expenses of school education and marriage of the girl child. The scheme encourages parents to save for the cost of their daughter’s future education and marriage. The Finance Ministry has announced interest rates on Sukanya and other small savings schemes for the July-September quarter. The last date for submission of Aadhaar and PAN is September 2023.

According to the notification, if the amount deposited in the account of the investor is more than Rs 50 thousand at any point of time or if more than one lakh rupees are deposited in the account in any financial year, or if the amount deposited or withdrawn from the account in any month is more than Rs 10 thousand.

In such a situation, if the PAN is not given within two months, then the account will be frozen till the PAN number is made available.

Benefits of Sukanya Yojana

PPF Account Limit: Savings are very important in today’s time. In such a situation, if you also want to collect big funds through investment, then investing in Public Provident Fund ie PPF can prove to be a better option for you. But do you know how many PPF accounts an investor can open and what are the rules regarding this. Today we will know about it in detail here.

Investing in PPF earns interest at the rate of 7.1 percent. Explain that this interest rate available on PPF is likely to cross 8 percent in the July-September quarter. In such a situation, investing in PPF is very beneficial, but before that it is very important to know about the rules related to it.

Who can open PPF account?

Public Provident Fund, the most popular investment scheme of small savings schemes, can be opened by any Indian resident in his own name. At the same time, one of the parents can open a PPF account for a minor son or daughter. In case of death of both parents, grandparents can open PPF account as guardians of grandchildren.

How much can a person open PPF account?

According to PPF rules, a person can open only one PPF account. No person is allowed to open more than one PPF account. However, in some cases it has been seen that investors open PPF accounts in the name of wife and minor child to avail the benefits of PPF.

Know what is PPF account rule

It is worth noting that if the PPF account holder does not deposit a minimum of Rs 500 in his account at the end of the financial year, then there is a provision to impose a fine of Rs 50 per year as a default. At the same time, the investment period of PPF account is fixed at 15 years. Investors can withdraw once every year from the 7th financial year, but this amount cannot exceed 50 percent. Also, the minimum deposit amount for PPF investment is Rs 500 per year and the maximum limit is Rs 1,50,000 per year.

The post PPF Account Limit: Big news for account holders!

RBI Penalty on HSBC: The Central Reserve Bank (RBI) has imposed a fine of Rs 1.73 crore on HSBC. The Reserve Bank of India on Monday said that it has imposed a penalty of Rs 1.73 crore on HSBC for non-compliance of regulations.

RBI said in a statement that this action has been taken on the basis of deficiencies in regulatory compliance. The central bank had conducted a statutory inspection regarding the monitoring investigation in the context of the financial position of the bank as on March 31, 2021. In the context of this investigation, non-compliance of rules came to light.

The bank, in violation of RBI rules, gave wrong information in respect of many expired credit cards with zero balance to all the four ‘credit’ information companies.

Notice sent to the bank

Reserve Bank of India has sent a notice to HSBC asking why penalty should not be imposed on you for violation of the aforesaid provisions of the CIC Rules. However, after this, the notice sent by the RBI was replied to by the bank.

Penalty was required

The Bank, while replying to the RBI notice and making oral submissions during the personal hearing, came to the conclusion that the allegation of violation of the aforesaid CIC Rules was warranted and monetary penalty was warranted.

These banks were also fined

In addition, the central bank has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 2 lakh on Thrissur Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd., Thrissur, Kerala. Which was for non-adherence to the instructions issued by the central bank on the management of advances.

The central government has revised the interest rates on small savings schemes and post office savings schemes for the April-June quarter. Under which the interest rate on Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana has been increased to 8 percent.

Linking KYC documents has been made mandatory for account holders investing in Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana to get interest rate and maturity amount. The Finance Ministry has made it mandatory for Sukanya investors to link their accounts with Aadhaar and PAN for financial monitoring and security of account holders. A deadline has also been announced for this, if the link is not made before the deadline, the Sukanya account may freeze.

Interest rate on Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana

The central government has revised the interest rates on small savings schemes and post office savings schemes for the April-June quarter. Under which the interest rate on Sukanya Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana has become 8 percent, which was earlier 7.6 percent. The Finance Ministry, while issuing a circular on March 31, 2023, has made it necessary to link the accounts of small savings schemes including all Sukanya investors with Aadhaar.

What is Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana

The Central Government had started Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana in the year 2015 under Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao Mission. In this scheme, the amount can be deposited for 15 years by opening an account in the name of the daughter. For Sukanya Yojana, the account of a girl child below 10 years of age can be opened. Parents can open Sukanya account for their daughter in the nearest bank or post office.

Deadline to link Aadhaar with Sukanya account

According to the Finance Ministry, if the investor of Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana has opened the account before 31 March 2023 and has not submitted his Aadhaar number to the accounts office, then he should submit the Aadhaar number to the concerned office within six months from 1 April 2023. Apart from this, the post office or bank where the account of Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana has been opened can also be linked by depositing Aadhaar. The last date for submission of Aadhaar is 30 September 2023. Sukanya account holders can also submit PAN along with Aadhaar.

What will happen if the Sukanya account is not linked to Aadhaar, according to the instructions of the Ministry of Finance, if the Aadhaar number is not linked to the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana account within the given time limit, then the account will be frozen. In such a situation, the investor may have to face many problems.

The amount of interest payable will not be credited to the account of the Sukanya account holder. At the same time, even the Sukanya account holder will not be able to deposit the installment. Whereas, on maturity of Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, the amount will not be transferred to the bank account specified by the account holder.

Many banks across the country are being privatized by the Modi government. The government is going to make another government bank private this year. Work is going on fast on this.

If you also have an account in a government bank, then you should know before that which bank is going to be privatised. Giving information today, Deepam Secretary has told that the process of privatization of IDBI Bank is progressing rapidly.

Rejected media reports

The Central Government said on Friday that the process of disinvestment of IDBI Bank is going on as per the prescribed strategic sale process. He also dismissed the media reports that it was being said that the disinvestment of IDBI could be postponed.

Deepam secretary tweeted

The Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) said that the stake sale in the bank has moved beyond the expression of interest (EoI) stage. Deepam Secretary Tuhin Kant Pandey has tweeted that after receiving various EOIs, the transaction is now progressing as per the prescribed procedure.

LIC has 61 percent stake

The government had received several initial rounds of bids in January for the strategic sale of about 61 per cent stake held by it and LIC in IDBI Bank.

What is the share of the government?

Bids were invited from potential buyers in October last for the sale of a total of 60.72 per cent stake, including 30.48 per cent government and LIC’s 30.24 per cent stake in IDBI Bank. At present, both the government and LIC together hold 94.72 per cent stake in this bank.

The government has increased the interest on Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, a special scheme for girls, from 7.60 per cent to 8 per cent. This is more than many schemes and such returns can be obtained from any debt mutual fund only. Increasing the interest rate of the government will greatly benefit the investors of this scheme.

Let us tell you how you can collect funds for your daughter’s marriage through this scheme. This scheme is especially for daughters. You can open an account in it anytime from the age of your daughter till the age of 10 years, whose maturity is in 21 years.

Maturity happens after 21 years

In this scheme, you can open an account anytime between the age of a girl child till the age of 10 years. Its maturity is after 21 years. However, if money is needed for the education of your daughter, then you can withdraw 50% of the amount in the middle after the girl turns 18 years old. At the same time, you can withdraw the remaining amount after the age of 21.

Will get so much money in marriage

Suppose you have deposited Rs 12,500 every month in Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana for your daughter, then in one year your amount will be Rs 1.5 lakh. On the other hand, now if you calculate the interest on maturity, then according to 7.6%, you can deposit a hefty amount for your daughter’s marriage.

Now if you withdraw money from this scheme after 21 years, you will get Rs 63 lakh 79 thousand 634 on maturity. In this, Rs 22,50,000 will be your investment amount and the interest earned will be Rs 41,29,634. Means you can get your daughter married in a grand way for Rs 64 lakh.

Banking Sector: Recently, information about the failure of many banks has come to the fore in America and Europe. Along with this, the talk of global recession is getting deeper.

Meanwhile, now a bank is going to be sold and this deal has also become final. In fact, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) has said that North Carolina-based First Citizens Bank will buy the troubled Silicon Valley Bank (SVB).

In the banking sector

America, Silicon Valley Bank failed recently. After this, now this bank is being bought. The failure of SVB had taken the entire banking industry by surprise and there was an atmosphere of concern about the banking sector across the world. In such a situation, this deal has happened at a time when the confidence of the investors has been shaken. However, now they can heave a sigh of relief.

FDIC

The FDIC and other regulators took major steps to protect depositors and prevent further deepening of the financial crisis. In this sequence, it was guaranteed that the customers of SVB and another failed bank of America would be able to access their entire funds. Now the customers of SVB have themselves become the customers of First Citizen.

It is also included that

17 branches of SVB will now open as First Citizen’s branches only. Two days after Silicon Valley Bank failed on March 10, New York’s Signature Bank also went under. New York Community Bank had agreed to buy a majority stake in Signature Bank, but the search for a buyer for SVB continued. The FDIC said in a statement that the sale also included the sale of all of SVB’s deposits and loans.

He said that EPFO never asks its members for their personal details on phone calls, emails and social media. EPFO told its members that they should never share their UAN number, password, PAN number, Aadhaar number, bank account details, OTP or any other personal details or financial details with anyone.

EPFO or its employees never ask for account details

EPFO has told the account holders that EPFO or its employees never ask for your details on any social media platform like message, phone call, e-mail, WhatsApp. He said that if any EPF account holder receives any such phone call, message or message on social media, in which a person claiming to be an employee of EPFO asks you for any details, then be alert. In such cases, never share any of your details with anyone and immediately report it to the local police or cybercrime branch.

Report fake calls or messages to the police immediately.

Let it be said that the gangs involved in cybercrime trap simple people in their net and blow away all the money deposited in their account in the blink of an eye. The gang members contact people through phone calls, messages, emails or social media and pretend to be employees of EPFO and obtain secret details related to their EPF account and bank account. After which it becomes very easy to withdraw money from your account.

The post EPFO issues warning to account holders, if ignored, nothing will be left except regret first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.

Earlier this year, it was reported that SBI had collected minimum balance between April and November 1771 from customers due to non-maintenance of minimum balance in the account. Crores of rupees were recovered as fine.

Therefore, it is very important for you to know how much banks have fixed the minimum amount. Today we are telling you how much you should keep in your account at least so that you can avoid getting fined.

Minimum balance i.e. the minimum amount is called ‘Monthly Average Balance’ in the language of banking, meaning ‘monthly average amount’. This means that at least this amount should be in your account every single month, otherwise penalty will be imposed. This penalty ranges from Rs 5 to Rs 600. All the information given here is related to the savings account. These rules do not apply to current or other categories of account holders.

SBI(State Bank Of India)

SBI has fixed ‘Monthly Average Amount’ separately for urban and rural branches. The account holders of the metro city will have to keep at least Rs 3000 in their account.

Similarly, SBI account holders of urban areas will also have to keep a minimum balance of up to Rs 3000 in their account. If people of metro and urban areas deposit less than this amount in the account, then they can be fined from 10 to 15 rupees. GST is also added to this. In this way the penalty amount will increase further.

However, there is some relief for the account holders of semi-urban and rural areas. It is mandatory for semi-urban customers to keep 2000 rupees and village bank customers 1000 rupees in their accounts. Semi-urban account holders face a fine ranging from Rs 7.5 to Rs 12. GST is also added to this. At the same time, there is a fine of 5 to 10 rupees for the people of rural areas. Along with this, GST is also levied.

ICICI Bank

Private bank ICICI has fixed a minimum balance of Rs 10,000 for people in metro and urban areas. If you keep less money than this, then fine will be imposed. At the same time, the amount has been fixed up to Rs 5000 for semi-urban and Rs 2000 for rural. The fine of private banks is much higher than that of government banks.

If you do not maintain the minimum balance in ICICI Bank, you will have to pay a penalty of Rs 100 and add five percent of the amount that has fallen short in meeting the minimum balance. This penalty amount rule is the same for all types of branches of ICICI except Gramin Bank. For not maintaining the minimum balance in Gramin Bank, five percent of the amount that has fallen short in meeting the minimum balance will have to be paid as a penalty.

HDFC Bank

Like ICICI, the penalty amount in HDFC Bank is also very high. HDFC Bank has fixed a ‘monthly average amount’ i.e. minimum balance of Rs 10,000 for metro and urban area branches. At the same time, the amount of Rs 5000 and Rs 2,500 is fixed for semi-urban and rural branches. If you do not keep this much money in the account, then there are different types of fines.

In metro and urban areas, people who have balance between 7,500 to 10,000 in their account, then they will have to pay a fine of Rs 150 plus some tax. At the same time, those who have an amount from 5,000 to 7,500 in their account, they will have to pay a penalty of Rs 300 after adding some tax. Similarly, account holders of semi-urban area also have to pay a penalty of Rs 150 to 300 plus tax on the basis of reduction in minimum balance.

On the other hand, in rural areas, if someone has an amount from 1,000 to 2,500 in his account, then he will have to pay a fine of Rs 270 and adding tax. And if someone has less than 1,000 in his account, then a fine of 450 will have to be paid. This means that the worst effect will be on the poor.
