from the accident site after the Air India plane crash on June 12 , which raised suspicion that he was hit by it. His mobile phone was last tracked to the accident site, where it was found switched off. These clues pointed to the possibility that he was one of the victims.

Mahesh Jirawala’s body handed over to the family

However, the DNA test results later confirmed his identity. Mahesh Jirawala’s family was initially reluctant to accept the body as they were not ready to believe that such a thing had happened. However, when the police presented strong evidence including the chassis number of the Activa and the DNA report, the family was devastated and reluctantly accepted that Mahesh was no more.

Who was Mahesh Jirawala?

Let us tell you that Mahesh was a resident of Naroda and was known for directing AIDS as well as music videos. He was also the CEO of the production house Mahesh Jirawala Productions. He had done many music videos in Gujarati language. In 2019, a film of his was also released, which he directed. He is survived by a daughter and a son and wife Hetal. According to official figures, a total of 231 DNA matches have been done so far in the Ahmedabad accident and 210 bodies have been handed over to the families. The victims include 155 Indians, 36 British citizens, seven Portuguese citizens, one Canadian and nine locals.

The airline has faced disruptions in international flights especially due to the ongoing security checks of B787-8/9 aircraft after a Boeing 787-8 aircraft crashed on June 12 while heading to London Gatwick shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad.

The airline has apologised for the inconvenience caused to passengers affected by the temporary curtailment of overseas flights. In addition, the airline will enhance security checks for Boeing 777 aircraft as an additional precaution. Air India has faced operational disruptions recently. At least 83 of its international flights have been cancelled in the last six days.

In a statement issued late Wednesday evening, Air India said that geopolitical tensions in West Asia, night curfews in the airspace of many countries in Europe and East Asia have caused disruptions. The airline said that security checks are being increased. The statement said that necessary precautions are being taken by the engineering staff and Air India pilots.

According to the statement, “In view of the complex situation faced by Air India, in order to ensure stability of our operations, improved efficiency and to minimise inconvenience to passengers, Air India has decided to reduce its international wide aircraft services by 15 per cent for the next few weeks.”

Details about the number of flights affected were not immediately known. The airline was scheduled to operate 90 flights with widebody aircraft on June 12. Air India operates three widebody aircraft – Boeing 787-8/9, Boeing 777 and A350. According to the airline, the cuts will be implemented now and from June 20. They will then continue till at least mid-July.

Apologising to the passengers affected by the cuts, the airline said it will inform them in advance and try its best to accommodate them on alternate flights. Passengers will be given the option to reschedule their journey at no cost or get a full refund.

Air India’s Boeing 787-8 aircraft flying from Ahmedabad to Gatwick crashed shortly after takeoff on June 12. A total of 270 people, including 241 people on board the plane, were killed. One person on board the plane survived. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also on board this plane.

Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, a British citizen of Indian origin, survived the accident unhurt. 241 people on board the plane died, including 168 Indians, 53 British, seven Portuguese and one Canadian citizen. He was sitting in seat 11A of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner (AI171), and miraculously survived.

Meanwhile, the country’s largest insurer Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) on Friday said it has relaxed the claim settlement process for the families of the victims and has also expedited the process. The company said it is committed to helping the families of the plane crash victims.

LIC said in a statement, “LIC has announced several concessions to ease the hardships of policyholders. In lieu of a death certificate, any proof of death of the policyholder due to an air accident in government records or any compensation paid by the Central/State Government/Airline will be accepted as proof of death.”

Emphasis on early settlement of claims

LIC said, “All efforts will be made to reach out to the claimants and settle the claims of the affected families at the earliest. For further assistance, claimants can contact the nearest LIC branch.” The statement said that claimants can also call LIC’s call centre at 022-68276827.

Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance Company has come forward to help

Meanwhile, Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance has also said that it has set up a dedicated claim settlement desk to prioritize the settlement of death and disability claims for its customers affected by the accident. Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance said in a statement that Bajaj Allianz has created a minimum documentation process to simplify the claim process.
