Now the telecom regulator wants to make mobile recharges much cheaper. Specifically, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released a new draft rule on April 7, 2026. Indeed, this 2026 amendment tells companies to offer plans without any data. Therefore, if you only need to call and text, you will save a lot of money. In fact, this move targets the needs of rural and elderly users.
Relief for Low-Income and Rural Users

Now TRAI notes that many users find long-term plans too costly. Actually, most current voice-only packs last for 84 days or a full year.

The Need for Choice

First, low-income users often want to recharge for just 28 days. Next, companies currently lack these short, cheap voice-only packs. Thus, users in rural areas are stuck paying for data they never use. Furthermore, the new rule forces companies to match every data plan with a voice-only version. Specifically, if a company has a 28-day data plan, they must offer a 28-day voice plan too. Therefore, you can pick a plan that fits your exact budget. Period.

Mandating Fair and Lower Pricing

Now the office is calling out companies for high prices. Actually, earlier voice-only packs were almost as costly as data packs.

The Cost Gap

First, TRAI found that companies did not lower prices when they removed data. Next, the regulator says the price cut must be “largely proportional” to the data removed. Thus, if a plan loses its data benefit, the price must drop significantly. Additionally, this stops companies from “forcing” people to take unwanted services. Moreover, the office wants this transparency at every retail outlet and app. Overall, you will finally pay only for what you use.

Easy Access Across All Channels

Now the regulator ensures that you can find these new plans easily. In fact, companies must not hide these cheap vouchers from the public.

Where to Find Them

First, Jio, Airtel, and others must show these plans on their apps and websites. Next, retail shops and customer centers must also display them clearly. Thus, non-tech-savvy users can buy them over the counter without any trouble. Furthermore, TRAI has invited public comments on this draft until April 28, 2026. Specifically, they want to stop “discriminatory” choices that hurt the poor. Therefore, expect these new rates to hit the market after the final order. Period.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who will benefit most from this TRAI rule?

Now, elderly persons and feature phone users will gain the most. Thus, they can avoid paying for 4G or 5G data they do not use.

Q: Will these plans be available for 28-day recharges?

Actually, yes. TRAI wants a voice-only match for every single validity period. Therefore, short-term users get a fair deal.

Q: When will these cheap plans start?

Actually, the draft is open for comments until late April. Thus, you can expect the final rules to start by mid-2026.

Q: Can I still keep my data plan if I want it?

Since this is about adding choices, your current data plans will stay. Therefore, you just get more options to save cash.

The Bottom Line

Now the TRAI Voice-Only Order of 2026 is a major win for common citizens. While companies prefer high-value data packs, the regulator is siding with the users.

Overall, this move brings fairness to the Indian telecom market. Therefore, keep an eye on your service provider’s app after April for these new vouchers. Thus, you can lower your monthly bills and stay connected for less. Meanwhile, keep checking our blog for more news on 5G and tariff updates. Lastly, we hope for a more affordable digital India!

Save on talk. Skip the data.

BSNL is bringing a new digital revolution. The state-owned telecom company has launched an amazing ₹1 plan, which is ready to compete with private telecom operators. In this plan, users will get facilities like 30 days validity, unlimited calling and 2GB data per day. BSNL has announced this new plan on the occasion of Independence Day, which aims to attract maximum users.

BSNL has launched ‘Freedom Offer’ on its official X handle, in which users will get to experience ‘true digital freedom’ for just Rs 1. The validity of this plan is 30 days. With a recharge of just Rs 1, users will get 2GB high-speed data per day, unlimited calling across India (including national roaming) and 100 free SMS.

BSNL’s new ₹1 plan

This limited time offer of BSNL is valid across all telecom circles in the country. This offer will run from August 1 to August 31. To avail this offer, users will have to purchase a new BSNL SIM card for just Rs 1. The company has confirmed on social media that this offer is only for new BSNL users.

Efforts to increase ARPU

According to a recent report by TRAI, BSNL and Vi have seen lakhs of users switching networks in the last few months. In response to this continuous decline in the number of users, the state-owned telecom company has introduced this attractive offer. The government’s goal is to increase BSNL’s average revenue per user (ARPU). To achieve this, monthly review meetings will now be held. BSNL has been given a target of increasing its ARPU by 50 percent, and has been given clear instructions not to increase the prices of plans to achieve this. This aggressive new plan by BSNL seems to be a strategic move to regain market share and increase its user base.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has directed Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to block 25 OTT apps and websites in India. The move has been taken to curb the spread of obscene and pornographic content online. Under this decision, popular platforms like ULLU, Big Shots App, ALTT and Desiflix have been removed due to content violations.

Action on 25 OTTs for objectionable content

According to a report by Storyboard18, the MIB found that these platforms were displaying objectionable advertisements and obscene content, which were in violation of several Indian laws. The ministry has issued an official notification directing ISPs to restrict access to these apps and websites in the Indian geography.

These OTT apps banned

ALTT
ULLU
Big Shots App
Jalva App
Wow Entertainment
Look Entertainment
Hitprime
Feneo
ShowX
Sol Talkies
Kangan App
Bull App
Adda TV
HotX VIP
Desiflix
Boomex
Navarasa Lite
Gulab App
Fugi
Mojflix
Hulchul App
MoodX
NeonX VIP
Triflicks

Finally, why are these apps being banned after so long?

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has decided to ban these apps citing Sections 67 and 67A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, Section 294 of the Indian Penal Code, 2023, and Section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.

These laws prohibit the publication and broadcast of sexually explicit material and indecent representations of women.

Intermediaries also under scrutiny

The government has also emphasized Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology Act, which states that if platforms and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are notified to remove or disable access to illegal content and they fail to do so, they will lose their safe harbor securities.

The move reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that digital platforms comply with Indian laws and do not promote any obscene or harmful content, especially for minors and vulnerable audiences who already have access to the platforms.

The plan is now available on the Airtel app and website, although it has not been officially announced yet.

This plan is designed for users who don’t need a lot of data but want to enjoy unlimited voice calls and some basic mobile features.
Airtel’s Rs 189 plan: What you get

Validity: 21 days

Voice calls: Unlimited on all networks

Data: 1GB mobile data

SMS: 300 SMS (for the entire plan period)

This plan is not for people who constantly check or scroll through social media. It is for people who just need to stay connected, such as senior citizens, casual phone users, or rural customers who need less data.

Rs 189 vs Rs 199: Which is better?

Airtel also has a Rs 199 plan that offers the same benefits but with a longer validity of 28 days. At just Rs 10 more, it’s a better deal if you want to extend your recharge for another week. However, if your budget is tight or you only need coverage for a few weeks, the Rs 189 plan is also a good option.

Airtel OTT Pack Plans: Airtel has introduced a new recharge of Rs 279. On this, subscription of many OTT is being given for one month, but other facilities like unlimited calls and SMS will not be available. 1 GB data will be given.

Airtel has solved the big problem of OTT viewers . The problem of getting separate recharges. Airtel has launched an all-in-one OTT entertainment pack for its prepaid mobile customers. To explain in simple language, now you do not need to recharge separately . In the initial plan of Rs 279, the company is offering access to more than 25 OTT platforms including Netflix, JioHotstar, Zee5 and Xstream Play Premium. This recharge has become available on the Airtel Thanks app. NBT Tech has spotted it. The company has come up with some more plans for which you will have to spend Rs 598 and Rs 1729. We will also tell you about them in detail.

Airtel Rs 279 recharge

The company has said that it has brought two recharges of Rs 279. The first one offers direct subscription through Airtel Xstream Play app. It offers subscription of Netflix Basic along with Zee5, JioHotstar and Airtel Xstream Play Premium. Its validity is 1 month. The second plan of Rs 279 can be availed from Airtel Thanks app. This is a prepaid content only pack, in which subscription of Netflix Basic, Zee5, JioHotstar and Airtel Xstream Play Premium is being given along with 1GB data. The company claims that Netflix subscription will run on all devices. Live sports, movies, exclusive Hotstar specials can be watched on JioHotstar. Similarly, users will also be able to watch the original content of Zee5. It

is worth noting here that you will not get the facility of unlimited calls, SMS on this recharge. Only 1 GB of data will be provided. Users who want to make calls and SMS will have to do another recharge along with this plan. However, Airtel has made this problem a little easier by introducing bundled packs of Rs 598 and Rs 1729.

Airtel Rs 598 and Rs 1729 recharge plans

On the bundled pack of Rs 598, Airtel is offering subscription of Netflix Basic, Zee5, JioHotstar and Airtel Xstream Play Premium for 28 days. Along with this, unlimited calls and unlimited data have been offered. The company has not mentioned any capping, which means that you will be able to use 5G internet to your heart’s content. For that, Airtel should have 5G in your area and your phone should also be 5G. Similar benefits will also be given on the recharge of Rs 1729, but there the validity will be 84 days. All these recharges can be beneficial for those users who want to enjoy OTT in this summer.

The post Airtel launches Rs 279 pack, Netflix, JioHotstar, Zee5 all will work first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.

Tensions are high between the two countries after India carried out strikes on terror camps in Pakistan in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack. In view of this, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has ordered all private and government telecom companies to ensure emergency-level preparedness.

Also, the Department of Telecommunications has also ordered telecom companies to secure their networks. The Department of Telecommunications has issued these instructions especially in view of the threat of potential cyber attacks.

Order to maintain uninterrupted connectivity

According to a report by Money Control, the order issued by the Ministry of Communications has directed telecom operators Airtel, Jio, BSNL and Vi to coordinate with each other to maintain uninterrupted connectivity and guarantee network operations. The meeting, which took place after India launched Operation Sindoor, asked the telecom companies to pay special attention to the border areas and prepare an updated list of infrastructure and installations to ensure their safety and continuous functioning in case of emergency.

In a letter to all telecom companies on May 7, the Department of Disaster Management of the Ministry of Telecom said, “Special emphasis should be given to ensuring smooth functioning of BTS locations within 100 km of the international border.” In addition, telecom operators should take necessary measures to maintain smooth communication in security situations and disaster situations. Work to ensure connectivity, especially at Emergency Operation Centres (EOCs) at both the state and district levels.

Strictly follow SOP

In its order, the Department of Telecom has directed the telecom companies to strictly follow the Standard Operating Procedures of 2020. This should be considered with immediate effect and necessary action should be taken. In addition, the Ministry has directed all LSA heads of the Department of Telecom to talk to the state governments to smoothen the movement of logistics of telecom companies in case of emergency and ensure their safety.

Roaming within the circle

During a disaster, telecom companies start intra-circle roaming service due to which users do not face any problem in network connectivity. Even during the cyclone that hit Odisha last year, telecom companies had enabled intra-circle roaming, due to which users did not face any network problem. When intra-circle roaming is enabled, in the event of a disaster and in the absence of a home network, users can make calls from their number using the network of any telecom operator.

The post Government issues new orders to Airtel, Jio, BSNL, Vi to tighten network security first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.

TRAI New Rule : In today’s time, mobile phone has become a basic necessity. We cannot spend even a few hours without it. Mobile has made many tasks of our life very easy, but mobile has also increased our expenses a lot.

Due to the expensive recharge plans, taking the plan repeatedly becomes very expensive. Many people take a new plan as soon as their recharge ends thinking that their number may be disconnected. Let us tell you about the new TRAI rules related to the validity of SIM card (Sim Card Active rule).

Most people do not know about the validity of their SIM and hence get it recharged repeatedly. In such a situation, a big problem arises for those who use two SIM cards.

Recently, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued some rules related to SIM cards. TRAI’s new rules have given a big relief to mobile users. Even if your mobile recharge plan has expired, now you will not need to recharge immediately. Your SIM card will remain active for several months without any recharge plan.

TRAI rules for Jio users

If you use a Jio SIM, you can keep your SIM active for 90 days without recharging. If you do not have a recharge plan, the incoming service on your number will remain active for 90 days. However, you will not be able to avail the outgoing service without recharge. To keep the SIM active after 90 days, you will have to take a plan with a validity of Rs 99. If you do not take this plan, your number will be disconnected.

TRAI rule for Airtel

If you use Airtel SIM then note that without recharging, you can keep your Airtel SIM card active for only 60 days. After 60 days you will have to take a plan with validity of Rs 45. In this too, you will be able to avail only incoming service for 60 days.

TRAI’s rule for Vi

If you use Vi SIM, let us tell you that you can keep your SIM card active for 90 days without a recharge plan. After this, you will have to take a plan of Rs 49 to keep the SIM active.

TRAI’s rule for BSNL is that

you can keep the SIM card of the government company BSNL active for maximum days without any recharge plan. In this you get a validity of 180 days. This means that after the recharge plan ends, the incoming service will remain active on your number for 180 days.

Good news is coming for users of Reliance Jio, Airtel, BSNL and Vi. From tomorrow, December 11, 2024, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will implement a new rule called message traceability.

This rule is designed to reduce the spam messages coming on our mobile phones. This new rule was initially scheduled to come into effect from December 1, but it was extended to give service providers a little more time to prepare. Originally, this rule was to come into effect by October 31, but it was extended to December 1 on the request of telecom companies.

You will get relief from the new rule

Until now, it has been difficult to trace the source of many fraudulent messages and spam. This new technology aims to change that. By making it easier to trace the source of these messages, TRAI hopes to protect people from fraud. This new system will allow everyone to be traced, from the sender of the message to the one who delivers it. This will create a clean process, including people like telemarketers. This process will be completed before the message reaches the service provider.

TRAI has also taken care that with this new rule, important messages, such as OTP for banking and other services, do not reach late. They have said that these important messages will reach on time. Important OTPs will reach on time.

Under this new rule, promotional messages and spam without registration will be blocked. This will make it easier for users to identify advertising and promotional messages. More than 27,000 companies have already registered, and the process is going on rapidly. Overall, this new rule will make communication safe and transparent for everyone.

National Desk: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has made an important change for telecom companies. Under this change, companies have now been instructed to implement traceability to track OTP based messages. As a result of this change, users of Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL may face some changes.

TRAI’s decision: Traceability of OTP messages

With the increasing use of the Internet and smartphones, the risk of cyber crimes has also increased. While smartphones have made our lives easier, they have also become an easy way for scammers and cyber criminals. Incidents of fraud through OTP and other online messages have now become common to deceive people. To deal with this threat, TRAI has directed telecom companies to implement traceability for tracking OTP and other commercial messages. The purpose of this change is to prevent online fraud and scams.

Traceability implementation date: December 1

In August, TRAI had directed to implement this rule, but the companies were given some extra time for this. Earlier this deadline was till October 31, but on the demand of Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL, it was extended to November 31. Now, from December 1, telecom companies will have to implement this rule.

There may be a delay in OTP messages

When telecom companies implement this new rule, there may be some delay in receiving OTP messages. If you receive OTP for banking, reservation or other important tasks, then you may face a slight delay in it. The reason for this is that now all OTPs and other types of messages will be tracked, so that scammers do not get a chance to commit fraud through OTP.

TRAI’s objective: Prevention of scams

TRAI has taken this step especially because many times scammers gain access to users’ devices through fake OTP messages and this causes financial loss to the users. To deal with such messages, TRAI has asked telecom companies to strictly implement this rule.

The result: a secure and reliable experience

With this change, while there may be a slight delay in the OTP message, on the other hand, this step will provide telecom users with a secure and fraud-free experience. This change may pose a big challenge for telecom companies in the future, but its purpose is to increase online security for users.

After this new rule coming into effect from December 1, users of Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL may face a slight delay in OTP and other messages. However, this step has been taken to avoid online fraud and scams, which will give users a safe and secure experience in the future.

New Telecom Rule: The government keeps changing its rules from time to time for the betterment of the telecom sector. Some new rules have been included in the Telecom Act once again.

All the states of the country have also been asked to strictly follow these new rules. This new rule has been named Right of Way (RoW) Rule. All the states of the country have been asked to adopt this rule. Apart from this, different states have also been given exemption in charges.

The new rule is going to be implemented from January 1

According to a report by ET, this new rule will come into effect from January 1. Its purpose is to promote the installation of optical fibre lines and telecom towers. Telecom operators and infrastructure providers are also going to get a lot of help from this rule. Neeraj Mittal, Secretary, Department of Telecommunications (DoT), has written a letter to the secretaries of all the states in this regard, stating that all the states should ensure by November 30. Then the new rules of the RoW portal will be implemented from January 1.

Department of Telecommunications Secretary Neeraj Mittal also wrote in the letter that the new rule should come into effect from January 2025 and the existing RoW rule should be stopped here.

The direct meaning of this letter is that the new rule will be implemented from January. The new RoW rule will simplify the process of obtaining permission and maintaining digital records. Let us tell you that telecom providers had urged the government to implement a uniform RoW policy across the country for the development of telecom infrastructure.

What is the RoW rule?

If explained in simple language, the RoW rule sets the standard for setting up towers or telecom infrastructure on public and private property. With the help of this rule, the government is able to focus on modernizing the telecom infrastructure. Let us tell you that all property owners and telecom providers have to follow the RoW rules, because under this, public safety and transparency are given great importance. That is, after the new rule comes into effect from January 1 next year, many changes can be seen. It will have a direct impact on all telecom service providing companies like Jio, Airtel, Voda, BSNL.

There will be more focus on 5G

There will be more focus on 5G in the new rules of RoW. The new rule can prove to be very helpful for fast network, because special attention is being given to installing new towers across the country for 5G.

SIM Card New Rules : New rules are being implemented for the telecom industry from October 1, 2024. There is big news for Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL customers. These new rules will directly affect the common mobile users.

Under these rules issued by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), telecom companies will have to provide information about their services in a more transparent manner. These changes will be especially beneficial for those users who want to get accurate information about the network available in their area.

Network information will be available online

Now it will be mandatory for telecom companies to provide information on their website about which services they are providing in which areas. This will make it easier for users to know which network is available in their area, such as 2G, 3G, 4G, or 5G. Till now most of the users were very upset to find the right network, but now they will be able to see this information easily by visiting the website directly. This step will be applicable to all major telecom companies like Airtel, Jio, Vodafone-Idea and BSNL.

Spam calls will be curbed

New rules have also been made to provide relief to users from spam calls. From October 1, strict steps will be taken to control spam calls. Under this, telecom companies have been given the responsibility to implement effective systems to stop spam calls on their networks. This will help users avoid unwanted calls and their experience will be better.

What benefits will customers get?

The biggest advantage of the new rules is that users will now be able to choose the best network in their area. Companies will provide correct information about their network coverage and service quality on the website. This will help customers know which services are available in their area and they can choose the right option as per their requirement. Companies will provide regular updates about the status of the network. This will also help users know how reliable and fast their service is.

The rules for buying SIM cards have changed. Now users do not have to worry much about buying a new SIM card of Airtel, Jio, BSNL or Vodafone-Idea. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has now made it completely paperless.

If you are now planning to buy a new SIM card or are thinking of changing the operator, then you will no longer have to visit the offices of telecom companies. You will be able to verify the documents required for your SIM card yourself.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has announced the new rules for SIM cards from its official X handle. Also, users have been asked to keep some things in mind before buying a new SIM card. This new rule of the Department of Telecommunications is to prevent fraud with the personal documents of users. Also, it will be to implement a completely paperless system under Digital India.

New rule of SIM Card

The Department of Telecommunications said in its post that while carrying out a major telecom reform, now e-KYC (Know Your Customer) as well as self KYC has been introduced for the users.

Users will not have to go to telecom operators to change their number from prepaid to postpaid. Users will now be able to avail the service based on OTP i.e. one time password for this.

You will be able to buy a new SIM card without sharing any photocopy or document.

This completely digital process of the Department of Telecommunications will prevent misuse of the users’ documents. Now fake SIMs cannot be issued in anyone’s name.

What is Aadhaar based e-KYC and self-KYC?

DoT has introduced the facility of Aadhaar based e-KYC, Self KYC and OTP based service switch in KYC reform. Users will now be able to use only Aadhaar card to buy a new SIM card. Telecom companies will use the Aadhaar based paperless verification feature to verify the users’ documents. This will cost only Rs 1 (with GST).
