ATM Cash Withdrawal Rules: Now withdrawing money from ATM and checking balance is going to be a little more expensive. In fact, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the increase in ATM interchange fees.

In such a situation, from May 1, the fee for financial transactions like cash withdrawal will increase by Rs 2 and the fee for non-financial transactions like balance checking will increase by Rs 1. That is, now the interchange fee for withdrawing cash will increase from Rs 17 to Rs 19 and the fee for checking balance will increase from Rs 6 to Rs 7.

These changes will affect small banks more, especially those that have a small ATM network of their own. According to sources, white-label ATM operators had demanded an increase in fees because the old fees were making it difficult for them to run their operations. In such a situation, banks will try to compensate for this by increasing the fees from customers to reduce the burden on themselves.

What is interchange fee?

ATM interchange fee is the charge that one bank pays to another bank when you use its ATM. This fee is part of the transaction and is often added to the customer’s bill. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) had informed the banks about this change on March 13. NPCI had sought permission from RBI to increase the fee, which has now got the green signal.

What were the rules now?

As of now, if customers in metro cities use ATMs of other banks, they get 5 free transactions every month. Whereas, in non-metro areas, this limit is 3 transactions. After this, a charge is levied on every transaction. Now, due to the increase in fees, the expenses of small banks will increase further, because their customers have to use ATMs of other banks.

ATM Cash withdrawal rules: This step will be especially beneficial for those customers who are unable to withdraw money due to technical reasons, haste or carelessness. This is an important step taken by RBI keeping in mind the safety of customers.

If you are afraid to withdraw money from ATM, then this news is for you. Actually, the facility of cash refund is being restarted in selected ATMs across the country. Under this facility, if the customer does not take the money withdrawn from the ATM within the stipulated time, then the machine will withdraw that money. This step has been taken by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) with the aim of protecting customers and preventing fraud. Initially this facility will be implemented at selected ATMs and gradually it will be implemented at all ATMs.

What is cash refund facility?

With the help of cash refund facility in ATM, if the customer does not withdraw his cash within the stipulated time, then this money goes back to the machine. Earlier this facility was misused, due to which RBI had closed this facility in the year 2012.

How will this facility work?

If you withdraw money from an ATM but do not withdraw the money within the stipulated time (usually 30 seconds), the ATM machine will take back the amount. After this, it will be ensured that the same amount is credited to your account again.

Benefits for customers

If a customer accidentally leaves the money, no one else will be able to take it. And this money will be returned to your account. This rule is being brought to make ATM transactions secure, to reduce cases of fraud. Let us tell you that fraudsters used to close the ATM by putting a fake cover in front of the cash-tray, so that the cash gets stuck in the machine and the customer does not see it. Even in such a situation, customers will not suffer any loss and their money will go back to their account.

This step will be especially beneficial for those customers who are unable to withdraw money due to technical reasons, haste or carelessness. This is an important step taken by RBI keeping in mind the safety of customers.

RBI is going to make a big change in the rules of cash withdrawal at ATM booths. Under this, the cash withdrawal facility will be restarted in selected ATMs across the country. In this, the ATM machine will withdraw the cash that is not taken by the customer within the stipulated time. This step has been taken for the safety of the customers and to prevent fraud.

What is the facility

Cash withdrawal is a facility in ATMs where if the customer does not withdraw cash from the cash tray within the stipulated time, the machine withdraws the cash. Earlier this facility was misused where fraudsters would withdraw partial amount but the machine log would record the withdrawal of the full amount. This was causing huge losses to the banks. Due to this, RBI had discontinued this facility in the year 2012.

A new way of cheating

However, after this the fraudsters have found a new way to commit fraud at the ATM booth. They put a fake cover in front of the cash tray of the ATM and close it, due to which the cash coming out of the machine gets stuck and is not visible to the customer. He thinks that the transaction has failed and he goes away. After this the fraudsters reach there and remove the fake cover and withdraw the cash.

To deal with this, RBI has instructed banks to implement cash withdrawal system with greater technical security.

The facility will be implemented here first

Banks have been instructed to re-activate this facility in those ATMs where the possibility of this type of fraud is high. For this, banks have also been asked to upgrade their ATM machines to implement this technology.

Customers’ money will be safe

This technique will be especially useful in cases where customers forget to withdraw money by mistake or are unable to withdraw money due to some reason. Also, if any fraudster tries to take money of another customer, this technique will help in stopping him as well.

Rules Change: Nowadays every person deposits his money in the bank so that it remains safe and interest can also be earned on it. Whenever someone needs money, they usually withdraw cash from ATM or bank. But there are some rules and limits for cash withdrawal, which are important to know. Let us know about these rules and limits in detail.

Limit on cash withdrawal from ATM

Rules Change: Every bank has set a fixed limit for withdrawing cash from ATM. This limit depends on the type of ATM card and the bank’s policy. For example, a maximum of Rs 40,000 can be withdrawn from a bank’s ATM in a day, while in some other banks this limit can be up to Rs 50,000.

If you need more cash than this limit, you have to wait till the next day. The limit for withdrawing large amounts from ATM is only on a daily basis, so it is important to know how much you can withdraw at one time.

Rules for withdrawing cash from the bank

If you need more cash than the ATM limit, you can withdraw cash directly from the bank. There are some rules that need to be followed for withdrawing cash from the bank. The rules are a little strict, especially for withdrawing large amounts.

TDS on cash withdrawal of more than Rs 20 lakh

If you withdraw more than Rs 20 lakh in cash in a financial year and you have not filed Income Tax Return (ITR) for the last three years, then you will have to pay TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) . In this case, you will have to pay TDS at the rate of 2%.

If you withdraw an amount of Rs 1 crore or more in cash, the rate of TDS will be 5%. That is, if you withdraw such a large amount, you will have to pay 5% of the total amount as TDS. This rule applies to those who have not filed ITR. If you have filed ITR on time, you will not have to pay TDS on cash withdrawal, no matter how big the amount you withdraw. This exemption is for those who regularly give details of their income to the government and file ITR.

Cash withdrawal limit in banks

The limit of cash withdrawal from the bank also depends on the policies of the bank. In some banks, you can withdraw a maximum of Rs 1 lakh in cash in a day, while in some banks this limit is up to Rs 5 lakh. This limit may vary depending on the services of the bank and the customer’s profile.

Withdraw money from ATM without Card: Now debit card is not necessary to withdraw money from ATM. Although not many people know about this. If you still withdraw money with the help of debit card, now you can upgrade yourself.

At present, there are many such banks whose card you can withdraw money from without using the ATM, but now the Reserve Bank has increased the scope of the bank. Now almost all the banks are providing the facility to withdraw money.

Major banks like State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank and Punjab National Bank (PUB) provide cardless card withdrawal facility. The advantage of withdrawing money at ATMs without credit and debit cards is that it prevents situations like card loss, incorrect PIN transition and card theft at ATMs. Instead of card, you can withdraw money from ATM with the help of UPI. Let us tell you how to withdraw money from ATM without card.

To withdraw money through UPI, the following are the things that you must have in your mobile phone. To withdraw money from an ATM, you need to have a bank account and install any UPI-based payment app like GPay, PhonePe, BHIM, etc.

You must have an internet connection.

What are the procedures to withdraw cash through UPI?

Step 1: First of all, go to any ATM and select “Withdraw Cash” option
Step 2: From “Withdraw Cash” option, you need to select UPI option on the ATM screen. The QR code will show on the ATM screen.
Step 3: Now, you need to open any UPI payment app on your phone and turn on the QR code scanner.
Step 4: Start scanning the QR code shown on the ATM screen.
Step 5: After scanning, you need to select the amount you want to withdraw.
Step 6: Next, hit the Proceed button and enter your UPI PIN to withdraw money.

According to the bank, while completing the transaction, the bank customers will have to share the OTP while withdrawing cash from the ATM, so that it is ensured that the ATM user is the right user. OTP is a system-generated four-digit number that the bank will send to the customer’s registered mobile number.
