Pahalgam Terror Attack: The Indian government has taken several tough steps against Pakistan after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Five major decisions were taken in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, NSA Ajit Doval and top security officials attended this meeting. This meeting lasted for about two and a half hours. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri informed the media about the government’s decisions after the meeting.

Indus Water Treaty suspended

India has suspended the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 with immediate effect. With this, the supply of water to Pakistan from the Indus River and its tributaries – Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Beas and Sutlej will stop. The Indian government has made it clear that the ban on the treaty will continue until Pakistan stops supporting cross-border terrorism.

Attari border checkpost closed

Attari Integrated Check Post is being closed with immediate effect. People entering India with valid permits will have to return via the same route before 1 May 2025.

SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme abolished

Pakistani citizens will no longer be able to come to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES). All visas issued earlier have been declared invalid. Pakistani citizens present in India on SVES visa have been directed to leave the country within 48 hours.

Pak High Commission officials expelled

The Indian government has declared the defence, naval and air force advisers posted at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi as ‘persona non grata’ and given them seven days to leave India. The number of High Commissions of India and Pakistan will be further reduced from the current 55 to 30.

Return of Indian Army officers

India has decided to withdraw all defence, naval and air force advisors from its High Commission in Islamabad. These posts will be deemed abolished with immediate effect.

All parties will meet on Thursday

The government has also called an all-party meeting on Thursday. News agency PTI quoted sources as saying that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh may chair the all-party meeting. Many opposition parties, including the Congress, had demanded that the government should call an all-party meeting on the issue of the Pahalgam terror attack. 26 people were killed and many others were injured in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on Tuesday (April 22).

Major updates after Pahalgam attack

The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy wing of Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack.
The mastermind of the attack is Lashkar-e Taiba’s deputy chief Saifullah Khalid, who is present in Pakistan.
According to initial investigation, 5 terrorists were involved in the attack. Of these, two were local and 3 were Pakistani terrorists.
Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that we have no role in the Pahalgam attack.
Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces have detained hundreds of people for questioning.
