31 December Deadline: Have a locker in State Bank of India (SBI) and Bank of Baroda (BOB)? If you also have your locker in these two banks, then you should also complete the necessary work by 31 December 2023.

All banks have been asked by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to get their customers to sign the new agreement for bank lockers. If you too have not done this work, then complete it as soon as possible.

31 December Deadline

If you do not do this, there may be problems in the future. Most banks have prepared a revised bank locker agreement covering customer rights, which all customers are required to sign. Banks are informing customers through bank calls, SMS and e-mails that they should come to the bank branch and sign the agreement. Stamp papers have also been kept by the banks for the customers, so that the customers do not have to go anywhere else.

Customers will just have to come to the bank branch. Customers having a locker have to visit the bank branch and provide their Aadhaar, PAN and photograph. After this the stamp paper and bank locker agreement have to be signed.

Deadline for adding nominee in mutual fund account

If you do not declare the nominee in your mutual fund account by December 31, 2023, your mutual fund account will be frozen. This means that if you miss this deadline, you will neither be able to withdraw nor deposit money. Along with mutual funds, it is mandatory for demat account holders also to make nominee by 31st December.

Deadline to file updated ITR

The deadline for filing income tax returns for the financial year 2022-23 i.e. assessment year 2023-24 was July 31, 2023. Those who could not file ITR by this date can still file updated ITR with late fees till December 31, 2023.

Your UPI ID may be closed

If you also have a UPI ID which you have not used for more than a year, then it will be closed after December 31. In such a situation, if you have not used any of your UPI ID in the last one year, then use it as soon as possible. This will not deactivate your UPI ID.

Bank Locker Keys : Millions of people in the country use bank lockers to keep expensive jewelery and important documents in bank lockers. Most all banks provide locker service. Banks charge an annual fee for using a bank locker car. This charge is taken once a year. This charge depends on the size of the bank locker and the location of the branch. The bank provides one key to the customers along with the locker and keeps one key with them.

how to open bank locker

There are 2 keys (Bank Locker Keys) to open the bank locker. One key is kept by the bank and the other key is given to the customer. To open a bank locker, the bank first puts its key in the locker and the customer puts his key in the locker. The bank locker opens only when both the keys are inserted. The locker cannot be opened without both the keys. It has been observed many times that the customer loses his key. What will you do in this case? What do you need to do with your key?

Police will have to complain about losing the key first.

Most of all keep expensive gold diamond jewelery or documents in bank locker. That’s why if you lose the key, first you have to complain to the police. For example, if you lose your SIM card, first you have to file a complaint with the police. Similarly, on losing the key of the bank locker, a complaint has to be made in the bank.

Information to be given to the bank

According to HDFC Bank, customers will have to apply with the locker key, number, police FIR copy and application to retrieve the locker key. The bank will charge for giving you the new key. After this the bank will tell you when and where to get the key. You will have to visit the bank branch to collect the new key. Many times customers have complained that duplicate keys are prone to confusion.

Customers also have this option

If the customer wishes, he can first break the locker and shift all the goods to another bank locker, but the customer will have to bear the entire cost of this. For breaking the locker and changing the key, a fee of Rs 1,000 and GST will have to be paid. Getting a new one is expensive if the key is lost, so it is important that you take care of your bank locker keys.

The post Bank Locker Rules: Lost bank locker key?

RBI news: To keep your valuables safe, the bank provides locker facilities and crores of people use this facility of the bank, but recently RBI has issued instructions that if the goods disappear from the bank locker then the bank will have to compensate him

Most of the banks in the country provide locker facility. Keeping jewelry and cash in the locker becomes tension free. But, what if termites lick your money kept in the locker. Recently, a similar incident had happened in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Two lakh rupees of the customer were kept in the locker of Punjab National Bank.

When he reached to withdraw his money, the notes were licked by termites. In such a situation, the question arises that if something untoward happens with your money kept in the locker, then someone is responsible for it. The answer to all these incidents is the new locker rules, which have come into force from February 1, 2023.

These are the new rules of Reserve Bank of India

According to the new locker rules of the Reserve Bank of India, if any item kept in the locker is damaged due to the negligence of the bank, then it will be the responsibility of the bank. It is the responsibility of the Bank to take necessary steps for the security of the premises. If the goods kept in the locker are damaged due to the negligence of the bank, then the bank will have to pay compensation. This compensation will be 100 times the rent of the locker for one year. During the loss, the banks cannot say that they do not have any responsibility.

Compensation will not be given in these cases

Bank will not be responsible if the locker is damaged due to natural calamity like earthquake, flood, storm etc. Apart from this, the bank will not be responsible even if the cash etc. kept in the locker of the bank is damaged due to the customer’s own fault.

However, if there is a fire or theft due to the negligence of the bank, then the bank will be responsible for it. Apart from this, if any employee of the bank embezzles money or commits fraud, then also the bank will be responsible.

Let us tell you that the Reserve Bank of India had advised all the banks to renew the locker agreement of the existing customers of the banks from January 1. Along with this, the bank was asked to ensure that there should not be any unfair condition or terms in the agreement.

Bank Locker Charges: If you also keep documents related to land, other price papers and jewelery etc. in the bank locker, then this news is of your use. Actually, the rules related to bank lockers have been changed by RBI.

This change has been made keeping in mind the safety and convenience of the customers. If you also have a locker of any bank and have kept gold-silver or other valuables in it, then definitely read this news.

The bank will have to pay compensation

According to the notification issued by the RBI, the rules have been changed by the Central (RBI) on the complaint of the customers taking locker in the bank. Often customers keep complaining of theft in bank lockers. Even after long efforts, such customers do not get any satisfactory solution for the stolen goods. But now in case of any untoward incident with the goods kept in the locker, the concerned bank will compensate the customer up to 100 times the locker rent.

There will be transparency in the locker system, many times such cases have come to the fore in which banks used to get away from the theft incident. He hurls the customer saying that he is not responsible in any way. In the order given by RBI, it was said that banks will have to put the list of empty lockers, waiting list number for the locker on the display. This will bring more transparency in the locker system. RBI says that the customer cannot be kept in the dark on behalf of the bank.

Rules for taking rent of the locker On accessing the locker, an alert will be given to you through e-mail and SMS through the bank. RBI has made this rule to protect against any kind of fraud. Banks have the right to take the locker rent for a maximum period of three years at a time. If the locker rent is Rs 2000, then the bank cannot charge you more than Rs 6000, excluding other maintenance charges.

Every person entering the locker room and bank staff is required to be monitored by CCTV cameras. Apart from this, the bank will have to keep 180 days (6 months) of CCTV footage safe. The police will be able to investigate with the help of CCTV footage in case of theft or any other mishap.
