What are the demands of bank employee organizations

The main demands of the bank employee unions include two days off every week and adequate recruitment in all employee cadres. The decision to postpone the proposed strike has been taken in front of the Chief Labor Commissioner, who called all the parties for a conciliation meeting. Representatives of the Indian Banks Association and the Finance Ministry assured to consider the demands of the employee organizations. UFBU also demanded immediate withdrawal of the recent instructions of the Department of Financial Services (DFS) on performance review and linked incentives (PLI) of employees. The employee organization says that this instruction threatens the job security of the employees and creates division among the employees.

Banking operations come to a standstill for 4 consecutive days

If the employee unions had maintained their decision of strike, the work of banks would have been halted for 4 consecutive days. Actually, 22 March is the fourth Saturday of the month and 23 March will be a holiday for all the banks of the country due to Sunday. After which the strike program was scheduled for Monday, 24 March and Tuesday, 25 March. All India General Secretary of Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA) CH Venkatachalam has informed that the bank unions will first discuss their demands on January 31. According to Venkatachalam, the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) has agreed to hold a meeting with the unions on January 31.

In the conciliation meeting held on Friday, it was decided that three common issues of five-day banking, updation of pension and restoration of old pension scheme would be discussed on January 31. Other issues will be discussed separately with the concerned authorities and labor unions.
