After Delhi, bike taxis can be closed in Noida, another city of the National Capital Region (NCR). The district administration has started preparations regarding this.

The transport department is planning to launch a drive to check registered bike taxis in the city and its outskirts. Transport department data shows that there are 2,446 registered bike taxis in the district. The move to run the campaign has been taken following allegations of private numbered bikes being used as taxis.

As per the rules, a bike taxi must have a commercial registration and must have a yellow colored number plate. According to media report, Assistant Regional Transport Officer in Gautam Budh Nagar, said that the transport department had received several complaints that private bikes were being used as taxis. He said, “The Transport Department will launch a drive and seize such vehicles involved in commercial activity.

Bike taxis banned in Delhi

Earlier on February 21, the Delhi government banned bike taxis in the national capital on similar issues. The Delhi Transport Department said that two-wheeler vehicles with non-transport (private) registered numbers cannot be used for carrying passengers under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988. Earlier last month, the Supreme Court refused to grant relief to a bike taxi aggregator against the Maharashtra government’s denial of license to it.

Bike taxis may be shut down because of this

A delegation of the Noida Auto Drivers Union recently complained to the transport department, alleging that private bikes being used as taxis were affecting their business . Chaudhary Om Prakash Gurjar, president of Noida CNG Auto Drivers Association, said, “Since bike taxis are a cheap mode of transport.

Many people choose them. We have seen that some people have started using personal bikes as taxis. Such bikers wait for passengers outside several metro stations and receive bookings through mobile apps. This is affecting our business. It is also illegal.” He also alleged that many of these bike taxis are registered outside Noida.

Ban on Bike Taxi Service in Delhi: Now you will not be able to get Bike Taxi in Delhi. Delhi’s Arvind Kejriwal government has issued an order to stop the bike service of Ola, Uber and Rapido on charges of violating the rules.

In a circular issued by the Delhi Transport Department, strict action has been warned against people carrying passengers on bikes. It has been said in the notice that for not doing so, a heavy fine will be imposed on the accused, as well as his driving license will also be suspended.

10 thousand rupees will be fined

According to the notice issued by the Delhi government, under the Motor Vehicle Act 1988, carrying passengers on any kind of two wheeler is a punishable offence. If found doing so, he will have to pay a fine of Rs 5,000 in the first instance and Rs 10,000 in the second instance. If the fine is not paid, then there will be a jail term of up to one year and the bike will also be seized.

Rs 1 lakh penalty on aggregator

Before taking out this notice, the Kejriwal government had issued a warning to Ola, Uber and Rapido running bike taxis in the city without permission. The government had said that carrying passengers on bike-scooter (Bike Taxi) is a violation of the Motor Vehicle Act, for which a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh can be imposed on the aggregator ie the companies running it. Along with this, the license of the driver driving that bike-scooter can also end for 3 months.

This issue is going on in many states

There is a tussle between various state governments and the companies running it on the issue of running bike taxis without permission. Maharashtra government had banned Rapido company for starting bike service without permission. The company then sought a license from the government, but the state government refused, calling it a violation of rules. After which the company filed a petition in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court refused to give any relief to the company in this matter.

Rest of the states can also take a decision

Now, due to the ban on all the three major bike taxi companies by the Delhi government, it is believed that similar tough decisions may come in other states as well. Along with this, the questions related to this bike taxi can take a more vocal form. Explain that in the year 2019, amendments were made in the Motor Vehicles Act, in which there was also a provision that no aggregator can work without a valid license.
