Justice JB Pardiwala dissented while delivering his minority judgment and declared Section 6A of the Citizenship Act unconstitutional.

The time limit till 1971 is correct: Supreme Court

A five-judge bench of the Supreme Court delivered three verdicts with a majority of 4:1 and upheld the validity of Section 6A of the Citizenship Act. The majority verdict of the court said that the time limit for entering Assam and granting citizenship was March 25, 1971.

On Section 6A of the Citizenship Act, the Supreme Court said that the presence of different ethnic groups in a state does not mean violation of Article 29 (1).
