<p class="PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer" data-start="1497" data-end="1815">A political confrontation erupted on Wednesday after <strong data-start="1550" data-end="1582">Congress leader Rahul Gandhi</strong> demanded accountability for the police action against student protesters in Delhi, while the <a href="https://www.bjp.org/home"><strong data-start="1676" data-end="1708">Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)</strong></a> strongly rejected his allegations and renewed its demand that he apologise for remarks made in Parliament.</p>
<p data-start="1817" data-end="2045">The exchange came after Gandhi&#8217;s comments during the Lok Sabha debate on the <strong data-start="1894" data-end="1967">Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026</strong>, where parts of his speech were later expunged from the parliamentary record.</p>

<h2 data-section-id="mnqkgl" data-start="2047" data-end="2086">Rahul Gandhi questions police action</h2>
<p data-start="2088" data-end="2230">Addressing a press conference, Rahul Gandhi alleged that excessive force was used against students protesting over examination-related issues.</p>
<p data-start="2232" data-end="2382">He claimed that some protesters were injured during the demonstrations and questioned how the police adopted such methods while dealing with students.</p>
<p data-start="2384" data-end="2557">Gandhi also referred to medical records of an injured protester, alleging that pellet guns and other forceful crowd-control measures had been used during the demonstrations.</p>
<p data-start="2559" data-end="2699">Calling the treatment of students the most important issue before the country, he said accountability should be fixed for the police action.</p>
<h2 data-section-id="kqfly2" data-start="2701" data-end="2724">Refuses to apologise</h2>
<p data-start="2726" data-end="2804">Rahul Gandhi also claimed he was not allowed to speak freely in the Lok Sabha.</p>
<p data-start="2806" data-end="2950">According to him, he was told he would be allowed to continue only if he apologised for his remarks regarding <strong data-start="2916" data-end="2949">Union Home Minister Amit Shah</strong>.</p>
<p data-start="2952" data-end="3064">Rejecting the suggestion, Gandhi said he would not apologise to the BJP, the RSS or anyone associated with them.</p>
<p data-start="3066" data-end="3232">Later, while speaking to reporters inside Parliament, Gandhi maintained that there were only two possible explanations regarding responsibility for the police action.</p>
<p data-start="3234" data-end="3373">He argued that either the Home Minister had authorised the action or was unaware of it, saying both possibilities warranted accountability.</p>
<h2 data-section-id="12oq4z4" data-start="3375" data-end="3391">BJP hits back</h2>
<p data-start="3393" data-end="3482">The BJP dismissed Rahul Gandhi&#8217;s allegations and accused him of spreading misinformation.</p>
<p data-start="3484" data-end="3612">Party spokesperson <strong data-start="3503" data-end="3519">Sambit Patra</strong> reiterated the BJP&#8217;s demand that Gandhi apologise for his statements made inside Parliament.</p>
<p data-start="3614" data-end="3746">Patra also rejected the allegation that the Home Minister directly controlled operational decisions during crowd-control situations.</p>
<p data-start="3748" data-end="3916">According to him, such decisions are taken by local administrative authorities, including the <strong data-start="3842" data-end="3877">Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM)</strong>, based on the situation on the ground.</p>
<p data-start="3918" data-end="4102">He further argued that Rahul Gandhi had been given adequate opportunity to participate in the Lok Sabha proceedings and accused the Congress leader of attempting to mislead the public.</p>
<h2 data-section-id="184iil9" data-start="4104" data-end="4132">Political row intensifies</h2>
<p data-start="4134" data-end="4295">The exchange has added to the political controversy surrounding the recent student protests, which followed allegations of irregularities in public examinations.</p>
<p data-start="4297" data-end="4473">The issue has become a fresh flashpoint between the ruling BJP and the Congress, with both sides accusing each other of politicising the protests and the government&#8217;s response.</p>
<p data-start="4475" data-end="4605">The debate is expected to continue as Parliament discusses examination reforms and related legislation during the ongoing session.</p>

<h1 data-section-id="1mpc0g" data-start="4612" data-end="4617">FAQ</h1>
<h3 data-section-id="w6yb70" data-start="4619" data-end="4669">Why did Rahul Gandhi criticise the government?</h3>
<p data-start="4671" data-end="4821">Rahul Gandhi questioned the police action against student protesters and sought accountability for the alleged use of force during the demonstrations.</p>
<h3 data-section-id="svxd2n" data-start="4823" data-end="4863">Why is the BJP demanding an apology?</h3>
<p data-start="4865" data-end="5023">The BJP says Rahul Gandhi made unsubstantiated allegations in Parliament regarding the role of the Home Minister and has accused him of misleading the public.</p>
<h3 data-section-id="22bpg3" data-start="5025" data-end="5073">What did Rahul Gandhi say about apologising?</h3>
<p data-start="5075" data-end="5212">Rahul Gandhi said he would not apologise for his remarks and maintained that accountability should be established over the police action.</p>
<h3 data-section-id="f3w8x9" data-start="5214" data-end="5252">What is the political issue about?</h3>
<p data-start="5254" data-end="5426">The dispute centres on the police response to recent student protests over examination-related issues and has led to a fresh confrontation between the Congress and the BJP.</p>

<h2 data-path-to-node="12"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">1. Axis My India: The 48% Vote Share</span></h2>
<p data-path-to-node="13"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><b data-path-to-node="13" data-index-in-node="0">Now</b> the numbers from Axis My India show a very wide gap between the two main sides. <b data-path-to-node="13" data-index-in-node="84">Actually</b>, they predict that the NDA will grab nearly half of all votes cast.</span></p>
<p data-path-to-node="14"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><b data-path-to-node="14" data-index-in-node="0">The Vote Breakdown</b></span></p>
<ul data-path-to-node="15">
<li>
<p data-path-to-node="15,0,0"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><b data-path-to-node="15,0,0" data-index-in-node="0">NDA Alliance</b>: Expected to secure 48 per cent of the total vote share.</span></p>
</li>
<li>
<p data-path-to-node="15,1,0"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><b data-path-to-node="15,1,0" data-index-in-node="0">Congress Alliance</b>: Projected to receive roughly 38 per cent of the votes.</span></p>

</li>
</ul>
<p data-path-to-node="16"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><b data-path-to-node="16" data-index-in-node="0">Thus</b>, the NDA holds a massive 10 per cent lead over its closest rival. <b data-path-to-node="16" data-index-in-node="71">Furthermore</b>, this gap explains why the seat count for the BJP-led group is so high in every survey. <b data-path-to-node="16" data-index-in-node="171">Specifically</b>, a 48 per cent share usually leads to a landslide victory in Indian elections. <b data-path-to-node="16" data-index-in-node="263">Therefore</b>, the &#8220;Gogoi trio&#8221; and the Congress coalition face a very tough road ahead. Period.</span></p>
<h2 data-path-to-node="17"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">2. Strong Consensus Across All Pollsters</span></h2>
<p data-path-to-node="18"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><b data-path-to-node="18" data-index-in-node="0">Now</b> it is rare to see almost every survey point toward the same result so clearly. <b data-path-to-node="18" data-index-in-node="83">Actually</b>, four out of five major polls put the NDA well above the 80-seat mark.</span></p>
<p data-path-to-node="19"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><b data-path-to-node="19" data-index-in-node="0">Consistent Findings</b></span></p>
<p data-path-to-node="19"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><b data-path-to-node="19" data-index-in-node="20">First</b>, P-MARQ and Matrize both see the NDA getting between 82 and 95 seats. <b data-path-to-node="19" data-index-in-node="96">Next</b>, Poll Diary pushes those numbers even higher, reaching up to 101 seats for the saffron party. <b data-path-to-node="19" data-index-in-node="195">Thus</b>, there is a strong &#8220;wave&#8221; appearing in the data for the 8th Pay Commission year of 2026. <b data-path-to-node="19" data-index-in-node="289">Additionally</b>, only People&#8217;s Pulse gives a lower estimate of 68-72 seats, though they still show an NDA lead. <b data-path-to-node="19" data-index-in-node="398">Moreover</b>, the Congress projections remain low across the board, never crossing 40 seats in any major poll. <b data-path-to-node="19" data-index-in-node="505">Consequently</b>, the data suggests a very one-sided contest. Period.</span></p>
<h2 data-path-to-node="20"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">3. The Struggle for the Congress Coalition</span></h2>
<p data-path-to-node="21"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><b data-path-to-node="21" data-index-in-node="0">Now</b> the Congress-led alliance appears to be heading for a possible defeat. <b data-path-to-node="21" data-index-in-node="75">Actually</b>, their seat estimates are down to as low as 15 in some surveys.</span></p>
<p data-path-to-node="22"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><b data-path-to-node="22" data-index-in-node="0">The Defeat Scenario</b></span></p>
<p data-path-to-node="22"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><b data-path-to-node="22" data-index-in-node="20">First</b>, the Axis My India poll shows the Congress alliance losing ground compared to previous years. <b data-path-to-node="22" data-index-in-node="120">Next</b>, they estimate that the group will only manage 24-36 seats. <b data-path-to-node="22" data-index-in-node="185">Thus</b>, the leadership under the Gogoi family may face hard questions after the final results come out. <b data-path-to-node="22" data-index-in-node="287">Additionally</b>, the wide disparity in seat projections across all polls highlights a lack of momentum for the opposition. <b data-path-to-node="22" data-index-in-node="407">Moreover</b>, the 38 per cent vote share is simply not enough to stop the NDA’s growth in the state. <b data-path-to-node="22" data-index-in-node="504">Consequently</b>, the BJP&#8217;s &#8220;double engine&#8221; narrative seems to have worked well in Assam.</span></p>
<h2 data-path-to-node="23"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Frequently Asked Questions</span></h2>
<p data-path-to-node="24"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><b data-path-to-node="24" data-index-in-node="0">Q: How many seats are there in the Assam Assembly?</b></span></p>
<p data-path-to-node="24"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><b data-path-to-node="24" data-index-in-node="51">Now</b>, the Assam Assembly has a total of 126 members. <b data-path-to-node="24" data-index-in-node="103">Thus</b>, a party needs 64 seats for a simple majority.</span></p>

<h2 data-path-to-node="28"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">The Bottom Line</span></h2>
<p data-path-to-node="29"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><b data-path-to-node="29" data-index-in-node="0">Now</b> the <b data-path-to-node="29" data-index-in-node="8">Assam Exit Polls of 2026</b> point toward a massive return for the BJP-led NDA. <b data-path-to-node="29" data-index-in-node="84">While</b> the final counting is still pending, the initial data shows a clear public mandate for the ruling alliance.</span></p>
<p data-path-to-node="30"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><b data-path-to-node="30" data-index-in-node="0">Overall</b>, the goal for the NDA was to secure a third straight term, and the polls suggest they have done it easily. <b data-path-to-node="30" data-index-in-node="115">Therefore</b>, the &#8220;Gogoi trio&#8221; will likely need to rethink their strategy for the coming years. <b data-path-to-node="30" data-index-in-node="208">Thus</b>, the North East remains a stronghold for the saffron party in 2026. <b data-path-to-node="30" data-index-in-node="281">Meanwhile</b>, keep checking our blog for the live results on counting day! <b data-path-to-node="30" data-index-in-node="353">Lastly</b>, we hope for a stable and prosperous term for the people of Assam!</span></p>

<p>The Congress party has released the first list of 21 candidates for the Delhi Assembly elections. The names of many veterans are included in this list. Sandeep Dixit has been given a ticket against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal. On Thursday itself, the Congress Central Election Committee met in the national capital. After this meeting, Delhi Pradesh Congress President Devendra Yadav had said that the list of candidates will be released in the next hour. Along with this, he had also indicated whose names can be in the list of candidates of Delhi Congress.</p>
<p>The assembly elections are to be held in the country&#8217;s capital Delhi early next year. For this, the Election Commission held a meeting with the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi, Delhi Police and other officials on Thursday. Looking at these preparations, it seems that the dates of the Delhi assembly elections can be announced at any time. Meanwhile, the Congress has also made it clear by releasing the first list of candidates that the contest in Delhi is going to be triangular.</p>
<p>Delhi&#8217;s ruling Aam Aadmi Party has already released two lists of candidates. Now the first list of candidates has also come from the Congress. Now the BJP&#8217;s list of candidates is awaited. It is hoped that the Delhi Assembly elections can be held in February.</p>
<p>Along with this, State Congress Committee President Devendra Yadav said, &#8216;All sections have been taken care of. Experienced and young faces will be seen among the candidates.&#8217; When asked if he himself will contest the elections, Yadav said, &#8216;Why not? We will definitely contest. There will be names of many senior leaders with me, let us tell you that the Delhi Assembly elections are likely to be held in February next year. He also said that a strong face will definitely be seen in front of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.</p>
