Aadhar Card : UIDAI has updated the list of documents required to get Aadhar. If you want to get an Aadhar card made or want to get some updates done in it, then first know which documents to take. UIDAI has issued new instructions regarding the documents required for Aadhar card related work. These updates are for assessment year 2025–26 and apply to both Aadhar enrollment and updates.

UIDAI released a new list of documents

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has released a new list for the year 2025–26 for making and updating Aadhaar. The new list states which documents will now be required for Aadhaar.

For whom are these new rules?

Indian Citizen

Indians living abroad (OCI cardholders)

Children above 5 years of age

Those residing in India on Long Term Visa (LTV)

Which documents are valid?

The Indian passport is valid for all four types of proof — proof of identity (ID), address, relationship and date of birth.

Apart from this, these documents can also be useful

PAN card

Voter ID

Ration Card

Driving License

Bank passbook

Pension Card

Any certificate from the government

Which of these documents to submit will depend on what you are getting updated.

Now only one Aadhaar for one person

UIDAI has clearly stated that if someone has two or more Aadhaar numbers by mistake, then only the first Aadhaar number issued will be valid and all other Aadhaar numbers will be cancelled.

Different rules for OCI and foreign nationals

Foreign nationals and OCI card holders will have to submit documents such as foreign passport, visa, citizenship certificate, or residence permit issued by FRRO.

Need to change your name, gender or date of birth?

If you want to change the name, date of birth or gender in your Aadhaar, then for this you will have to give self-declaration along with gazette notification, medical certificate or birth certificate. If you are going to do any work related to Aadhaar card, then first go to UIDAI’s website and check this new list. So that your work is done without any problem.

Aadhaar Card cannot be considered a valid document for proof of date of birth in jobs and enrollment in educational institutions etc. The state government has given information about the clarification issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) in this regard and has asked to comply with it.

Regarding this, the Department of Information Technology and e-Governance has written a letter to the secretaries of all departments, heads of government offices and deputy commissioners. Along with this, a copy of UIDAI has also been sent to all of them. All of them have been asked to inform all their subordinates about this and comply with it.

UIDAI has stated that Aadhaar is primarily a proof of identity of a person and not of date of birth. The date of birth is recorded by a person at the time of Aadhaar enrolment or update based on the relevant document submitted.

In this sequence, if there is no valid document then it is also recorded on the basis of declared or estimated date of birth.

Let us tell you that the most important valid document for date of birth is the birth certificate issued by the Municipal Corporation or other local body. Sometimes Aadhaar is also presented as proof of this, but it is not valid.

Aadhaar Card Update: Today, every Aadhaar card is connected to our every small and big need. From buying a SIM card to opening a bank account, Aadhaar card is considered an important document. But the Supreme Court made it clear in one of its orders that Aadhaar can only be used as an identity proof and it is not a document to prove your age.

Aadhaar will not work here

The Supreme Court has cancelled the order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court which accepted Aadhaar card to determine the age of a road accident victim for granting compensation.

A bench of Justices Sanjay Karol and Ujjal Bhuiyan said that the age of the deceased should be calculated from the date of birth mentioned in the School Leaving Certificate under Section 94 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.

UIDAI also did not accept the age certificate

The bench noted, “We find that the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), through its Circular No. 8/2023, in reference to an Office Memorandum dated December 20, 2018 issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has stated that an Aadhaar card may be used to establish identity but it is not a proof of date of birth.”

What is the whole matter?

The Supreme Court accepted the argument of the claimant-appellants and upheld the decision of the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT), which had calculated the age of the deceased on the basis of his school leaving certificate. The apex court was hearing an appeal filed by the family of a person who died in a road accident in 2015. The MACT, Rohtak, had awarded a compensation of Rs 19.35 lakh which was reduced to Rs 9.22 lakh by the High Court after observing that the MACT had wrongly applied the age multiplier while determining the compensation.

The High Court had relied on the deceased’s Aadhaar card and estimated his age to be 47 years. The family argued that the High Court had made a mistake in determining the age of the deceased on the basis of Aadhaar Card because if his age is calculated according to his school leaving certificate, then his age at the time of death was 45 years.

Aadhar card not valid as date of birth, Details Here first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.

The rules have been changed by UIDAI. Yes, from now on the date of birth written on Aadhar card will not be valid for date of birth in any document. It will be necessary to present the birth certificate along with the relevant documents. Only after this the related documents and applications will be valid.

The new system has been implemented from December 1. An order in this regard has been given by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). This step has been taken to prevent fraud by changing date of birth in Aadhaar by changing date, month and year etc. Even for the newly created Aadhaar, information about not using it as the date of birth is also being mentioned on the Aadhaar card. Information regarding this will be written on downloading the new Aadhar card.

It is necessary to present the birth certificate for verification.

After the new system, you will have to present the birth certificate along with the Aadhar card. Rakesh Verma, Deputy Director of Aadhaar Project, said that with the new rules, Aadhaar will be used as a mere identity document everywhere, whether it is admission in school or college or making a passport. It will be necessary to present the birth certificate for verification of date of birth.

Why did the rules change?

By repeatedly changing the date of birth and name in Aadhaar, people were committing fraud to avail benefits of various schemes including pension scheme, admission, sports competition etc. However, strict action was taken several times by UIDAI. But could not achieve success in this. After this, changes have been made in it.

It is noteworthy that the Aadhaar project was started in 2009. Later, Aadhaar card was considered as a unique identity card and linked to all the facilities. One who did not have Aadhar card cannot avail the benefits of government facilities.

What will be difficult

After the change in the rules, a big question has arisen after the date of birth recorded in Aadhaar is not recognized. The question is, what will happen to all kinds of schemes including pension and such works where people do not have any birth certificate?

There are a large number of people who do not have any kind of certificate related to age. Currently, most of the schemes are linked to Jan Aadhar and it can be made only through Aadhar card.

According to UIDAI, updating details like name and date of birth in Aadhaar card will now be difficult. These details cannot be updated easily. UIDAI has made some changes to prevent misuse of Aadhaar card.

UIDAI, the issuing organization of Aadhaar card, provides the facility of updating Aadhaar easily to all the citizens of the country. You can update any information like name, date of birth, gender, address, registered mobile number etc. But do you know that UIDAI has also fixed the limit for updating information in Aadhaar. Let’s know about this…

These documents will be needed

UIDAI has revealed which documents will be required for Aadhaar update. UADAI has reduced the number of documents required to change things like name and date of birth. You can change the date of birth in Aadhaar card with just six documents. Date of birth can be changed only through passport, government employee record, pension record, educational certificate, transgender certificate, birth certificate.

How many times can you make corrections

If there is any mistake in the spelling of your name or you want to change your surname after marriage, then you can get it changed. In this case, you can get the name changed only 2 times in the Aadhaar card. You can do this either online or offline. Many times it happens that while making Aadhaar card, the gender is wrongly entered.

So you can get it changed only once. If the date of birth is wrongly entered, you can get it changed only once. Some information like home address, email ID, mobile number, photo, finger print and retina scan can be changed repeatedly on the Aadhaar card.
