Giving information about this, sources said that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been asked to finalize the proposed corridor.

It will help in reducing congestion in Central Delhi

He said that this would be an extension of the Indralok-Indraprastha Metro Corridor, which was approved by the Union Cabinet earlier this year. According to the plan, the proposed line will pass through ‘Kartavya Path’ and end at North and South Block. A museum is proposed here as part of the Central Vista plan. Sources said that this will help in reducing congestion in Central Delhi as the number of visitors has increased since the redevelopment of Kartavya Path.

10 new office buildings will also be constructed

Apart from helping in reducing congestion, 10 new office buildings will also be constructed under the ‘Common Central Secretariat’, which will house various ministries. Out of the 10 buildings, three are currently under construction. Apart from this, a museum is also proposed in the North and South Blocks. Once the new metro corridor is operational, it will provide convenience to thousands of people.

The source said that the plan is still in its initial stage. Metro stations on the proposed corridor will come up at places like Bharat Mandapam, India Gate and North and South Block. New Parliament and Vice President’s building have been built under the Central Vista Redevelopment Plan. Also, the 3 km stretch from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate, Kartavya Path, has also been given a new look.

The Union Cabinet led by PM Modi approved this project on Wednesday. This will bring big changes in the infrastructure of cities. A total of Rs 8,399 crore will be spent on these two corridors. Out of this, the Central Government will raise Rs 4,309 crore, the remaining money will be raised through Delhi Government and international funding.

Indralok-Indraprastha corridor is being prepared as an extension of the Green Line. It will cross six other lines, which will increase the connectivity of the entire network. On the other hand, Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block corridor will be completely elevated and it will connect four lines.

There will be eight elevated stations in the metro corridor from Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block. This metro will pass through important areas like Andrews Ganj and Greater Kailash-1. Eight new interchange stations will be built on this corridor. After which the connectivity of the existing metro network will also increase.

A total of 65 kilometers of new corridor is being built during the fourth phase of Delhi Metro. These corridors will also be a part of this. These will be expanded in different phases and a target has been set to complete them by March 2026. Union Minister Anurag Thakur had told that the route from Lajpat Nagar to Saket G block will be 8.4 kilometers long. The length of Indralok to Indraprastha line will be 12.4 kilometers.

The extension of Indralok-Indraprastha corridor will connect with Red, Yellow, Airport Line, Magenta, Violet and Blue Line. Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block corridor will connect Silver, Magenta, Pink and Violet Lines.
