<p data-path-to-node="4">The crisis is the result of two simultaneous events that have paralyzed the city&#8217;s water infrastructure:</p>

<p data-path-to-node="5,0,0"><b data-path-to-node="5,0,0" data-index-in-node="0">Munak Canal Maintenance:</b> The Haryana Irrigation Department began unscheduled repairs on the <b data-path-to-node="5,0,0" data-index-in-node="92">Carrier Lined Channel (Munak Canal)</b> on January 19. This vital conduit for Delhi is currently operating at only 50% capacity, affecting the <b data-path-to-node="5,0,0" data-index-in-node="231">Haiderpur, Dwarka, Bawana, and Nangloi</b> plants.</p>

<li>
<p data-path-to-node="5,1,0"><b data-path-to-node="5,1,0" data-index-in-node="0">Ammonia Spike in Yamuna:</b> Between January 21 and 23, ammonia levels in the Yamuna River surged to <b data-path-to-node="5,1,0" data-index-in-node="97">3 ppm</b> (well above the treatable limit of 0.9 ppm). This forced the total shutdown of the <b data-path-to-node="5,1,0" data-index-in-node="186">Wazirabad Water Treatment Plant</b>, the city&#8217;s largest facility.</p>
