The Supreme Court said that the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) should prepare a roadmap on how, when and how much the electricity rates should increase in the capital. According to the report, the increased electricity rates will be applicable to all types of consumers.

Electricity rates may increase in the country’s capital Delhi. The Supreme Court has given permission to increase electricity rates in Delhi during the hearing of a case. The Supreme Court has said that the increase in electricity prices should be reasonable. The court has laid down some conditions while giving permission to increase electricity prices. The court has said that the increase should be affordable and should not exceed the limits set by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission.

The Supreme Court has said that electricity rates can be increased in Delhi but it should remain reasonable and affordable.

The court said that the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) should prepare a roadmap on how, when and how much the electricity rates should increase in the capital. According to the report, the increased electricity rates will be applicable to all types of consumers.

Let us tell you that this decision of the Supreme Court can affect other states of the country including Delhi. Actually this matter was related to the litigation going on for years regarding the pending payments of the electricity distribution companies. On Wednesday, the Supreme Court directed to liquidate all the pending regulatory assets within four years.

This means that in states where regulatory assets have been pending for decades, electricity rates will increase for everyone – personal, residential, commercial and industrial – over the next four years.

Here regulatory assets mean the dues payable to the electricity distribution companies. These dues are for the supply of electricity to the states/union territories.

The suit was initially filed by Delhi’s power distribution companies BSES Yamuna Power, BSES Rajdhani and Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd. However, during the hearing, the Supreme Court expanded its scope and issued notices to all the states where the dues of the power distribution companies had accumulated.

In its verdict, the bench of Justice PS Narasimha and Justice Atul S Chandurkar also reprimanded the State Electricity Regulatory Commissions and APTEL for failing in their regulatory work. The Supreme Court observed, “The disproportionate increase in long pending dues ultimately puts the burden on the consumer.”

The court also said that policies and rules have been made over the years to prevent such dues from accumulating. The court said in its order, “The inefficient and improper functioning and decision making of the Commission may lead to the failure of the regulatory commission.”

When an electricity regulatory commission passes a tariff order, the state electricity commission fixes the maximum price to be charged by power distribution companies. However, the electricity distribution companies have to spend more on purchasing and distributing electricity than the price they charge from consumers.

The loss incurred by the electricity distribution companies due to this is called “regulatory assets”. The State Electricity Commission and the State Government can decide that this loss will be paid later. But ultimately the consumers have to bear the loss. Because ultimately the consumers and the state have to pay interest on late payment.

It is worth noting that this pending payment in Delhi has been going on for 17 years. And this amount has increased to 20 thousand crores. In Tamil Nadu, this outstanding amount has become 87 thousand crores for 2024. Which has to be paid now. Its effect can come in the form of rising electricity prices.

The post Electricity Bills Set to Rise Nationwide as Supreme Court Gives Approval first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.

How To Reduce Electricity Bill- It is common for electricity bills to increase in summer due to AC, fans and kitchen appliances. In such a situation, we need to use them wisely so that electricity can be saved and there is no extra burden on the pocket. If you are using AC, then choose the option of inverter AC.

It consumes less electricity than a normal AC. Its specialty is that it adjusts the speed of its compressor according to the room temperature, which reduces electricity consumption. Inverter ACs with a 5 star rating are more efficient.

Often people keep the fan on even when they are not in the room. This habit increases the electricity bill. Only run the fan when you are in the room and maintain it regularly so that the motor runs properly and consumes less electricity.

Appliances like microwaves, toasters or ovens consume a lot of electricity, especially when left on standby mode. They should be switched off at the main switch after use. Now is the time to say goodbye to old light bulbs and appliances. Appliances like LED bulbs, 5-star rated refrigerators and smart washing machines can save thousands of rupees annually.

Little things like not removing your phone charger, leaving your TV on standby, or turning on unnecessary lights during the day – all add up to electricity bills. With a little caution and awareness, you can reduce your monthly electricity bill to a great extent.

No matter how rich or poor one is, everyone can be seen getting bothered by the rising electricity bills. If the heat is too much, then the electronics like AC, refrigerator and cooler in the house consume a lot of electricity. In winter, more electricity is consumed to keep the house warm.

In such a time, if a technology can generate more and cheaper electricity from the rooftops of our homes, would it be anything less than a miracle? You will say that this can be done by installing solar panels, what is the miracle in that? But believe me, a miracle-like technology has been created and that too in India.

In fact, scientists at IIT Bombay have developed a new solar cell with their hard work that can generate about 25-30 percent more electricity than the conventional technology so far. Currently, solar panels convert about 20 percent of energy into electricity, with the new technology this capacity has reached 30 percent. This will not only generate more electricity, but its cost will also be significantly reduced. Currently, the cost of a unit of solar energy is between Rs 2.5 to Rs 4, while with this technology this cost can come down to just Rs 1 per unit.

The material used in tandem solar cells is being produced in India…

According to a report in the Indian Express, this work has been made possible by Professor Dinesh Kabra and his team. This team is working at the National Centre for Photovoltaic Research and Education (NCPRE) of IIT Bombay. They have created a special type of solar cell, which is called a “tandem solar cell”. In this, a special material called ‘halide perovskite’ has been used in the upper layer, which generates better electricity even in very low light. The lower layer contains silicon, which is already used. Both together form a combination, which generates more electricity.

This technology is not only effective, but the raw materials used in it are also available in India. Till now, the materials used in solar panels had to be imported from countries like China. The materials used in the new technology will be made in India itself and will reduce India’s dependence on countries like China. Earlier, the biggest drawback of perovskite was that its life was very short, but the team from IIT Bombay has made it sustainable for 10 years. This is also a big achievement in the field of energy.

A huge responsibility on the shoulders of the Maharashtra government and IIT Bombay

The responsibility of bringing this technology to the ground has now been taken by ART-PV India Private Limited, a startup associated with the Maharashtra government and IIT Bombay. They are working to fully prepare it for the market by December 2027. Behind this startup is the same Professor Kabra, who has developed this technology. The special thing is that the machines and equipment for this will be made in India.

This technology will not be limited to large solar farms, but can also be installed on the roof of houses, vehicle roofs and walls of buildings. That is, more electricity in less space and more savings. Not only this, IIT Bombay and the Maharashtra government are also going to use this technology to produce ‘green hydrogen’ i.e. clean and environment-friendly hydrogen, which is very important for future energy needs.

UP Prepaid Meter: Have you ever thought that just like we recharge our mobiles, electricity can also be recharged in the same way. This is happening in Uttar Pradesh now. A new system has come for electricity consumers in Uttar Pradesh.

Which can completely change the old electricity billing system. If you are troubled by the increasing bills every month and the complications of the meter, then this news is important for you.

With this change, not only will consumers get more control over their electricity bills. But there will also be transparency and smartness in the electricity billing system. What is this prepaid recharge facility? And what will be the benefit of this electricity meter prepaid recharge facility? Let us tell you the complete information.

What is a prepaid electricity meter?

Generally, normal meters are installed in people’s homes. Where people have to pay the electricity bill after using electricity. But sometimes people consume more electricity. Due to which their electricity bill comes higher.

But if we talk about prepaid electricity meter, then it works like mobile recharge or DTH. That is, you will be able to use only that much balance that is in your meter. There is no chance of any error in the electricity bill. It is completely transparent.

What are its benefits?

Consumers who use the prepaid electricity meter system also get a lot of benefits. Users have complete control over the prepaid electricity meter. That is, the amount of electricity that is recharged will be used. Neither more nor less than that. Your electricity consumption will not be more.

Because if more electricity is used, the recharge will end. You will understand that you have used more electricity that month. Apart from this, you get the facility to recharge the prepaid electricity meter from the app or website. Apart from this, you can also track the electricity consumption of your house in real time.

The post Electricity Prepaid Meter: Prepaid recharge facility for electricity bills in UP, these are its benefits first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.

Electricity bills are higher in the summer season. There are many reasons behind this. The biggest reason is that electricity bills are higher due to running AC.

Today we are going to give you such tips, with the help of which it becomes easy for you to save electricity. The central and state governments give information about this to the people from time to time, in this you have to take special care of many things.

Tips from the Ministry of Energy

The Union Ministry of Energy has said that water pumps, ACs, coolers and fans play the most important role in electricity saving tips. If you are not in a room, you should not run a fan there. Doing this will also increase the electricity bill of your house. If you also want to avoid this problem, then you should ensure that you use electricity only when needed. By doing this, your electricity bill will also be reduced considerably.

how to control water pump

If the water pump consumes more electricity, you can also use an alarm bell. That is, with the help of a water pump, it becomes very easy for you to do this. Water pump usually consumes more electricity and people do not pay attention to it in the summer season. You have to take full care of this too. One mistake can cause you a huge loss. Apart from this, there are many other devices which are used more in summer.

Keep this in mind while selecting AC

You should also be careful while using AC. You should also take full care of Inverter and Non-Inverter AC. Using Inverter AC also saves electricity because it is designed in this way. Selection of compressor matters a lot. Compressor consumes the most electricity in AC.

A special news related to the electricity consumers of Punjab is coming out. Now people in Punjab have started getting electricity bills in Punjabi language as well. Earlier, the bill slip was available only in English. Now the department is printing bills in Punjabi language along with English and giving them to the people.

It is noteworthy that during the hearing of the writ petition demanding issuance of electricity bills in Punjabi language, the Punjab government informed the Punjab-Haryana High Court that this provision has been implemented since December 26, while now electricity bills are coming in both Punjabi and English languages.

In this writ, while demanding printing of bills in Punjabi, it was said that people in the villages of the state face difficulty in understanding electricity bills due to lack of knowledge of English. In view of which, the Punjab government started printing electricity bills in both languages.

Delhi Election 2025: The Aam Aadmi Party government of Delhi has given a big gift to the people of Delhi on the occasion of the New Year. According to the statement issued by the ‘AAP’ government, the surcharge on electricity bills has been reduced significantly just before the assembly elections. This will give great relief to the people and the electricity bill will also reduce.

In fact, the rates of Power Purchase Adjustment Charge (PPAC) which were earlier 35.83 percent for BRPL, 38.12 percent for BYPL and 36.33 percent for TPDDL. Now it has been reduced to 18.19 percent, 13.63 percent and 20.52 percent respectively. After this reduction, the electricity bills of all consumers of Delhi will come down. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi also holds the power ministry. He said that this has been possible only because of the honest and people-friendly government of Aam Aadmi Party.

Chief Minister Atishi said that the Delhi government has been able to achieve this (electricity surcharge) only through proper management and pre-planning of the power supply chain. He also informed that in neighbouring cities like Noida and Gurugram, not only are the electricity rates high, but there are also frequent power cuts during the summer season. Whereas in Delhi, people enjoy 24-hour power supply and due to our policies, in many cases their electricity bills are also zero.

Chief Minister Atishi said that the Delhi government has always given priority to protecting consumers from increase in electricity tariffs. So that the electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs) follow the rules set by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC). DERC, which is the only authorized body to impose Power Purchase Cost Adjustment Charge, works under its ‘Tariff Regulations 2017’. In this manual, all the details of the process, framework, approval, recovery and adjustment related to PPAC have been decided.

Electricity prices have increased in Chandigarh. The Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) has approved the increase in electricity rates in Chandigarh. A tariff hike of 9.4% has been approved for the financial year 2024-25 with effect from 01.08.2024 and due to this electricity has become expensive in Chandigarh.

As per the mandate of Electricity Act (2003), JERC has to ensure stability of electricity. It has decided to increase the electricity tariff keeping in mind the cost of power purchase, revenue generation and other expenses.

According to information, UT’s electricity department has set a target of increasing revenue by 19.44 per cent in the financial year 2024-25 and therefore proposed this but JERC has approved a tariff hike of 9.40 per cent. However, compared to Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh will still get electricity at a lower price.

In Punjab, domestic connections will be charged at Rs 4.88 per unit (average) for 0-100 units, Rs 6.95 per unit (average) for 101-300 units and Rs 7.75 per unit for 301 and above units. On the other hand, Haryana domestic connection is Rs 2 per unit for 0-50 units, Rs 2.50 for 51-100 units, Rs 2.75 for 0-150 units and Rs 5.97 per unit for slab 151 units and above.

It may be mentioned that earlier in Chandigarh electricity rates were increased in the year 2018-19. Electricity tariffs were reduced by 9.58% for the year 2021-22. In a meeting chaired by UT administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, the engineering department was asked to look into the matter and now the new rates have been approved and the rates will be applicable from August 2024.

On the other hand, earlier the High Court had also given green signal to the privatization of Electricity Board in Chandigarh. This case was going on in the court for many years, but recently the court gave its decision on this petition.
