Bihar Free Electricity Scheme: Under the government’s new scheme, customers with smart prepaid meters will no longer need to recharge for electricity consumption up to 125 units per month.

The electricity supply of such customers will continue without any interruption. However, if the consumer has outstanding bills, then it will be mandatory for them to recharge, so that the adjustment amount of the old dues can be deducted.

Under this scheme, consumers with postpaid meters will also get relief. While preparing the electricity bill, the consumption of 125 units will not be added, that is, if the monthly consumption of the consumer is not more than 125 units, then he will get a zero bill.

1.86 crore consumers will benefit from the government’s new scheme

According to official information released by the power company, the Bihar government has recently announced to provide 100% subsidized electricity to all domestic electricity consumers up to 125 units. This will benefit about 1.86 crore consumers, out of which 1.67 crore consumers are those who consume only up to 125 units of electricity every month.

The new system will also not charge fixed charges, which will save these consumers a single penny. This will bring great relief to poor and middle class families who are worried about electricity costs.

Prepaid meter consumers will get electricity without recharge

Consumers with smart prepaid meters will continue to get electricity even if they do not recharge, provided their consumption is limited to 125 units. This decision is a major step towards making the digital billing process simple and customer-friendly.

Those consuming more than 125 units will still get subsidy.

If a consumer’s monthly consumption is more than 125 units, they will continue to get electricity at the same subsidized rates as before. However, they will have to pay some amount, but that too will be at a very concessional rate.

New rates and subsidies for rural areas

The Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission has fixed a rate of Rs 7.42 per unit for rural consumers. Out of this, the power company is giving a subsidy of Rs 4.97 per unit, due to which consumers will have to pay only Rs 2.15 per unit for consuming more than 125 units of electricity.

Big relief for urban consumers too

Even in urban areas, those consuming up to 125 units will not have to pay bills. Earlier, urban consumers used to pay Rs 4.12 per unit for 1 to 100 units, but now they will get zero bills. If the consumption is more than 125 units, they will have to pay the bill as per the other slab.

Second slab and subsidy available in it

In the second slab, the rate has been fixed at Rs 8.95 per unit. In this, the government will give a subsidy of Rs 3.43 per unit, due to which the consumer will have to pay only Rs 5.52 per unit. In this way, the entire consumer will still get the benefit of huge discounts.

Employees Salary Hike: The state government has given a big gift to the employees. It has been announced by the government that the salary of these employees will be 6 percent more.

This increase has been done for the employees of the Electricity Board. According to the information, a consensus has been reached in the conversation with the employees of the Electricity Board.

Which state government announced the increase

The employees of the Electricity Board have been protesting for the last one month regarding the increase in salary. Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government has announced a 6 percent increase in the salaries of these employees. Minister Senthilbalaji said that an agreement has been reached between the employees of the Electricity Board and the government.

Opposition to what demands

At the headquarter of the Electricity Board in Chennai, the employees are protesting against the hike in salary, filling of vacant posts and non-appointment of employees through outsourcing. Till now the government has not been able to agree to all the demands of the employees. There has been talk about this many times between the government and the employees. 18 talks held by 19 trade union representatives with the authorities have failed.

Still haven’t agreed

Even in the 19th round of talks, a complete consensus could not be reached. However, during a conversation with the media, Power Minister Senthilbalaji said that employees and officers who have completed 10 years of service will be given a 3 percent pay hike from December 1, 2019. Along with this, from December 1, 2019, the employees of the Electricity Board will be given the benefit of 6 percent salary hike. This increase will be given in 2 installments.

How many employees will benefit

The benefit of this increase will be given to 75,978 employees and officers. There are 62,548 employees who will get the benefit of 3 percent salary hike. Due to the increase in salary, the government will have to spend Rs 527 crore more annually. He said that this step has been taken after discussion with the trade union representatives.
