Starlink is now one of only three companies in India to have received this crucial telecom license (the other two are OneWeb and Reliance Jio). The company has already received a letter of intent (LoI) from the government’s Department of Telecom. This can be considered an initial green light.

Now, they are waiting for a special license called Global Mobile Personal Communications by Satellite (GMPCS) license. This is the main license they need to install and use their satellite internet equipment in India.

This strategic, entry-level pricing is expected to give SpaceX’s service a powerful edge in gaining initial market share, allowing it to outpace upcoming rivals such as Eutelsat OneWeb (backed by an Indian group), Reliance Jio’s partnership with SES, and Globalstar, all of which are rolling out their own high-speed satellite internet services.
