Let&#8217;s be real, most people only think of the <a href="https://www.epfindia.gov.in/">Provident Fund (PF)</a>, but the nominee or family is eligible for several substantial payouts and monthly income streams under the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) and from the employer.</p>

<p data-path-to-node="3">Here is the raw field report on the critical benefits you need to claim immediately:</p>
<h3 data-path-to-node="4"><b>1. Employer Payouts: Salary, Bonus, and Leave</b></h3>
<p data-path-to-node="5">The company must process the following as part of the final settlement:</p>
<ul data-path-to-node="6">
<li>
<p data-path-to-node="6,0,0"><b>Pending Salary:</b> Wages for the days the employee worked until death.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p data-path-to-node="6,1,0"><b>Bonus/Incentive:</b> Any pending or annual performance bonuses.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p data-path-to-node="6,2,0"><b>Leave Encashment:</b> Payment for any unused or accrued leave.</p>
</li>
</ul>
<h3 data-path-to-node="7"><b>2. EPF Balance (The Main Fund)</b></h3>
<p data-path-to-node="8">The nominee is entitled to the <b>full EPF balance</b>, which includes the employee&#8217;s contribution, the employer&#8217;s contribution, plus all accrued interest.</p>
<ul data-path-to-node="9">
<li>
<p data-path-to-node="9,0,0"><b>Claim Process:</b> If nominated, claims can be filed <b>online</b> via the EPFO portal. If no nominee is registered, the legal heir must submit a <b>Succession Certificate</b> for an offline claim.</p>
</li>
</ul>

<h3 data-path-to-node="10"><b>3. Gratuity Benefit</b></h3>
<p data-path-to-node="11">Gratuity is a major, often overlooked, benefit. The kicker is, the usual rule of completing five years of service <b>does not apply</b> when death occurs during service.</p>
<ul data-path-to-node="12">
<li>
<p data-path-to-node="12,0,0"><b>Maximum Limit:</b> The maximum gratuity is legally <b>₹20 lakh</b>.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p data-path-to-node="12,1,0"><b>Calculation:</b> It&#8217;s calculated based on the last drawn salary and total service using the formula:</p>
<div data-path-to-node="12,1,1">
<div class="math-block" data-math="\text{Last salary} \times \frac{15}{26} \times \text{number of years of service}">$$\text{Last salary} \times \frac{15}{26} \times \text{number of years of service}$$</div>
</div>
</li>
</ul>
<h3 data-path-to-node="13"><b>4. EDLI Insurance (Free Life Cover)</b></h3>
<p data-path-to-node="14">The <b>Employee Deposit Linked Insurance (EDLI)</b> is a free life insurance cover. The employee pays no premium; the employer covers the entire cost.</p>
<ul data-path-to-node="15">
<li>
<p data-path-to-node="15,0,0"><b>Payout:</b> The nominee can receive insurance money ranging from <b>₹2.5 lakh to ₹7 lakh</b>, depending on the employee’s average salary over the last 12 months.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p data-path-to-node="15,1,0"><b>The Thing Is:</b> This claim can be filed simultaneously with the PF claim using the same process.</p>
</li>
</ul>
<h3 data-path-to-node="16"><b>5. EPS Family Pension (Monthly Income)</b></h3>
<p data-path-to-node="17">If the deceased employee completed at least 10 years of service and was an EPS member, the family is eligible for a monthly pension under the Employees’ Pension Scheme.</p>
<ul data-path-to-node="18">
<li>
<p data-path-to-node="18,0,0"><b>Spouse:</b> Gets the pension for life.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p data-path-to-node="18,1,0"><b>Children:</b> Receive a pension until the age of 25. Disabled children get it for life.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p data-path-to-node="18,2,0"><b>Unmarried Employee:</b> Parents can claim the monthly pension.</p>
</li>
</ul>
<p data-path-to-node="19">This financial cushion is vital during a traumatic time. Families must be aware of these entitlements to ensure no benefit goes unclaimed&#8230;&#8230;<img decoding="async" class="alignnone  wp-image-49508" src="https://www.rightsofemployees.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/images.png" alt="" width="28" height="28" srcset="https://www.rightsofemployees.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/images.png 225w, https://www.rightsofemployees.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/images-150x150.png 150w" sizes="(max-width: 28px) 100vw, 28px" /></p>
