Why is it difficult to identify a loose FASTag?

Currently, toll scanners at many locations only read the data on the tag. They are unable to identify whether the tag is affixed to the same vehicle or not. If ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) technology is fully implemented, identification may be easier, but currently many vehicles do not have ANPR number plates or they are not affixed properly. In some states, it is not even mandatory to affix ANPR plates.

What will be the impact on vehicle owners?

If your FASTag is not affixed on the toll booth and you are caught scanning it in your hand, NHAI can immediately blacklist your FASTag. Once blacklisted, the FASTag will not work on tolls and you will have to pay the toll in cash. Getting a new FASTag will cost both time and money. Therefore, always affix the FASTag properly on the vehicle’s windshield. Avoid showing the FASTag by holding it in your hand, otherwise your FASTag may be blacklisted and you may face difficulty while travelling.

Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department, Dheeraj Gupta inaugurated the state-of-the-art system in multi-storey parking and urged the citizens to maintain traffic discipline by parking their vehicles at the places extended for parking in the last few years.

He appreciated the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) and IDFC First Bank for partnering in this initiative and said that the administration is committed to provide assistance to establish an effective traffic management system in the Union Territory.

Payment will be done through the app

According to the official, the parking works through an app called ‘Park Plus’, which allows people to find, book and pay for parking spaces in advance. Additionally, they can use the FASTag installed on their cars to pay for parking spaces without any human intervention, the spokesperson said. This is first of its kind initiative in Jammu and second in the country.

What is FASTag?

FASTag was launched as part of the Government of India’s initiative to increase digital transactions at toll plazas. Fastags are issued by many banks and digital wallet aggregators. A sticker is pasted on the windshield of FASTag vehicles. The sticker contains a chip which is linked to the user’s bank account or digital wallet.
