The UGC has reiterated that these degrees will be invalid and has cautioned students not to enroll for such courses. UGC Secretary Manish Joshi said, ‘It has been found that many Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and colleges have entered into collaboration agreements with foreign educational institutions which are not recognized by the Commission and these HEIs and colleges are sending students abroad. Arrangements are being made to issue the degree.

UGC Guidelines:

Joshi said, ‘Any such collaboration or arrangement is not recognized by the UGC and accordingly, the degrees issued after such collaborative arrangement are also not recognized by the Commission.’

Some edtech companies are giving advertisements

Joshi said that it has also come to the notice of UGC that some edtech companies are advertising through newspapers, social media and television to offer online degree and diploma programs in collaboration with some foreign universities and institutions.

UGC Secretary said, ‘Such a franchise system is not allowed and any such program or degree will not be recognized by the UGC. Apart from all the edtech companies found guilty in such cases, action will also be taken against the HEIs as per applicable rules.’ He said, ‘Students and general public are advised to exercise due caution and register for such courses at their own risk. Get it done.’
