GPS-based toll collection to start by March next year

Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday gave major information regarding the launch of GPS-based toll collection system. He said that to change the existing system of highway toll plazas, the government will introduce new technology including GPS-based toll collection system by March next year.

Automatic number plates will be installed in vehicles

Along with this, he said that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has also run two experimental projects of Automatic Number Plate Recognition System to enable Automatic Toll Collection System without stopping the vehicles.

The move aims to reduce traffic on the highway and charge drivers for the exact distance traveled on the highway.

Heavy financial loss due to jam at toll plaza

According to the information, during the year 2018-19, vehicles had to wait for an average of eight minutes at the toll plaza. With the implementation of Fastag system in the year 2020-21 and year 2021-22, this time has reduced to just 47 seconds. At some places, especially in densely populated towns near cities, the waiting time at toll plazas has improved significantly, then This time also increases during times of extreme crowd. Due to this the country also has to suffer a lot of economic loss.

GPS system will be implemented to save economic loss

To save the country from this economic loss, GPS system is going to be implemented. Under this, first of all the number plates of vehicles will be changed to GPS number plates. Let us tell you that the Transport Ministry has ordered to install GPS number plates in all new vehicles. At the same time, now in all the old vehicles also, automatic number plate with GPS system will be installed in place of the old number plate.

Through GPS Toll System, as soon as you cross the toll plaza, the number plate of your vehicle will be scanned. After this, the toll collection amount will be deducted from your bank account.
