Giving the latest information, Dr. Naresh Kumar, Senior Scientist of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), said that there is no hope of relief from the heat in northwestern India at present. The heat wave will continue in the coming days.

According to Dr. Naresh Kumar, the heat wave will continue in Rajasthan for the next 4-5 days. Heat wave conditions may also develop in some parts of Punjab and Haryana. The temperature in Ganganagar, Rajasthan has reached 45 degrees Celsius. According to him, the heat wave that has been going on in northwest India for some time is not likely to subside now. Because in the coming days, no significant impact of the western disturbance will be seen.

According to the Meteorological Department, a special warning has been issued for eastern Uttar Pradesh where there is an alert of hot winds as well as hot nights. Similarly, a heat wave may start in Madhya Pradesh after 1-2 days.

Rains in South and North-East India

Heavy rains are lashing Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Orange and red alerts have been issued for these states. Wind speed may exceed 50 kmph. Heavy rains are likely to occur in North-East India for the next 5 days. Continuous rains will continue in Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, due to which flood-like situation may arise.

Impact of dusty winds in Delhi-NCR

Recently, dusty winds and foggy conditions have prevailed in Delhi-NCR. According to Dr. Kumar, this situation was caused by a pressure gradient. Due to excessive heat, the pressure in Rajasthan is low, while the pressure in the surrounding states is high. Due to this, the dusty winds reached the NCR.

Light rain likely in Central India

Thunderstorms and light rain are likely to occur in some parts of Central India in the next few days. However, these activities will not be very widespread. Dr. Naresh Kumar said that heat wave conditions will continue in Rajasthan for the next four-five days. Heat wave has also been predicted in some parts of Punjab and Haryana. While light to moderate rains with thunder and lightning are likely in northeast India in the next 5 days. According to IMD, the maximum temperature in northwest India is likely to increase by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the next five days. While no significant change is expected in the maximum temperature in central India and Gujarat in the next 24 hours. After this, there will be an increase of 2-3 degrees Celsius in the next six days. Thunderstorm accompanied by strong winds occurred at some places in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, East Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, North-East India, Kerala and Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema and Telangana.

Hailstorms were also reported at isolated places in Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Tamil Nadu and some other areas. Heat wave in East Rajasthan remained confined to isolated places, while conditions remained warm to very warm at night. IMD has predicted a significant reduction in rainfall activity in the Western Himalayan region including Jammu and Kashmir from April 21. Meanwhile, a new round of heavy rainfall is expected to start in Northeast India from April 22.

Storm caused heavy destruction in Barwadih block of Latehar on Wednesday evening. More than 100 houses were damaged in Morwai, Badhaniyaan and Saidup villages. Temperatures in Jharkhand’s Palamu cross 47 degrees

There is severe heat in entire North India including Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha. The maximum temperature of 47.4 degree Celsius was recorded in Palamu district of Bihar on Thursday. For the last three days, the maximum temperature of Palamu is being recorded above 47 degrees.

10 killed in Odisha

Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) Director-in-Charge (DIC) Dr Sudharani Pradhan said the deaths occurred within a span of six hours from 2 pm. Eight people had died by the time they reached the hospital, while the rest died during treatment here. The body temperature of these people was around 103-104 degrees Fahrenheit, which is very high considering the weather conditions. Some more people are still undergoing treatment.

5 died in Jharkhand

During the last 24 hours, five people died one by one. Vikas Kumar, 35-year-old son of Suresh Ram, a resident of Hamidganj in Medininagar city police station area, died near Kachhari Chowk. Vikas had gone to Panki on Wednesday to collect the outstanding amount. After returning in the evening, he suddenly collapsed near Kachhari Chowk. Similarly, a passenger coming from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh fell unconscious due to extreme heat at Daltonganj railway station, he died after undergoing treatment. The passenger has been identified as Anil Kumar Awasthi. Similarly, an unidentified woman and Muneshwar Bhuiyan of Patan died due to heat stroke in Daltonganj railway station premises.

5 died in Rajasthan

The Rajasthan government on Thursday said that five people have died so far due to the ongoing heat wave in the state. However, according to the government, reports of a rise in deaths due to heatstroke are “beyond facts”. Director (Public Health) Dr Ravi Prakash Mathur said that despite the scorching heat, the situation in the state is completely under control as the Medical and Health Department had started the necessary preparations since March itself. Mathur said, “So far five deaths have occurred in the state due to heat wave.”

The temperature crossed 47.1 degree Celsius

The situation in Bihar is also similar. The highest temperature was recorded in Buxar at 47.1 degrees Celsius. Amid the scorching heat in the state, the Bihar government on Wednesday ordered the closure of all private and government schools, coaching institutes and Anganwadi centers till June 8. Incidents of school teachers fainting due to the scorching heat were reported from Sheikhpura, Begusarai, Muzaffarpur and East Champaran districts and other areas. Government schools are closed for students, not for teachers.

People are being advised to avoid severe heat

• Avoid exposure to heat, stay cool and avoid dehydration.
• Pay attention to heat wave warnings on media.
• Drink as much water as possible. Drink even if you are not thirsty.
• Wear light colored sweat absorbent cotton clothes.
• While going out of the house, use sunglasses, umbrella, hat and slippers.
• If you work in the open, keep your head, face, hands and feet covered with a wet cloth. Use an umbrella to avoid the scorching sun.
• Make the person/woman affected by heat stroke lie down in shade and wipe him/her with a wet cotton cloth or give him/her a bath and consult a doctor immediately.
• Carry drinking water with you while travelling. Eat raw onions and keep them in your upper pocket.
• ORS Use home-made beverages like lassi, raw ambain water, tamarind water, rice water, lemonade, buttermilk, etc. to compensate for the lack of water in the body.
• Recognize the symptoms of heat stroke, heat rash, heat camp such as weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea, sweating, fainting, etc. If you experience fainting or illness, seek medical advice immediately.
• Keep your house cool. Use curtains, doors etc. and open them in the night and evening to cool the rooms and house.
• Use fans, wet clothes and take frequent baths. Keep cool drinking water at the workplace.
• Caution workers to avoid direct sunlight. Try to perform strenuous tasks during cooler hours.
• Increase the duration and frequency of rest when you are out of the home.
• Extra attention should be paid to pregnant women employees and sick employees.

West Bengal Department of Higher Education has also issued the order. Under this, all the state, government-aided and private universities and colleges here will remain closed for a week. Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts will not come under this rule. Colleges and universities will remain closed from 17 to 23 April 2023 due to heatwave.
