										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h3><strong>New Delhi. Insurance regulator IRDAI has given important instructions to insurance companies in its new circular on life and health insurance plans in the interest of customers.</strong></h3>
<p>In this circular, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDAI) said that insurance companies are expected to send information about premium due date and policy payment, such as maturity or survival benefits, at least one month before the due date. The regulator has said that if the companies fail to meet the deadline, customers can contact the ombudsman. Apart from this, IRDAI has also given important suggestions to insurance companies regarding cashless settlement and free look period in health insurance.</p>
<h3><strong>Extension of free look period</strong></h3>
<p>IRDAI said that insurance companies should allow a free-look period of 30 days for life and health insurance policies. Also, on free-look cancellation, customers should get the premium amount refunded within 7 days. Apart from this, services related to policy loans and changes in the basic policy terms should also be done within a time limit of seven days.</p>

<h3><strong>Cashless claim settlement within 3 hours</strong></h3>
<p>In the case of health insurance, the regulator has reiterated that cashless claims should be settled within 3 hours and non-cashless claims should be settled within 15 days. Apart from this, IRDAI has said in the master circular to provide necessary information at various stages of the insurance contract and make it mandatory to have a customer information leaflet with policy details. Insurers have been asked to offer proposal forms in regional languages.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h4><strong>Insurance Policy The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has issued a circular for General Insurance. According to this circular, if there is a flaw in the document at the time of claim, then the insurance company cannot reject the claim.</strong></h4>
<p>Let us know in this article what changes IRDAI has made in the rules of insurance in its master circular.</p>
<p>The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India ( IRDAI ) has made changes in the insurance rules. IRDAI has made changes in the rules of general insurance. For this, IRDAI has issued a master circular.</p>
<p>According to the master circular of IRDAI, now insurance companies cannot reject claims due to lack of documents. This rule is only for general insurance. This circular is part of the reforms in general insurance. It marks the beginning of a new era of measures for simplified and customer-centric insurance solutions.</p>
<p>The comprehensive Master Circular on General Insurance Business also repeals 13 circulars. IRDA said that the provision of easy-to-understand insurance products designed to meet the individual needs of customers, provide them with adequate choice and enhance their insurance experience has now been enabled.</p>
<h4><strong>As per IRDA circular</strong></h4>
<p>No claim will be rejected for want of documents. The required documents will have to be called for while underwriting the proposal. The customer may be asked to submit only those documents which are necessary and related to the claim settlement.</p>

<p>Apart from this, retail customers can cancel the policy at any time by informing the insurer. On the other hand, the insurer can cancel the policy only on the basis of established fraud. The circular states that the insurer will have to refund the proportionate premium for the unexpired policy period on cancellation.</p>
<h4><strong>IRDA became strict</strong></h4>
<p>IRDA has also provided strict timelines for settlement of claims, including appointment of surveyors and submission of their reports. It shall be the duty of the insurer to obtain the survey report in time, IRDA said.</p>
<p>In Motor Insurance, the customer will be given additional options of &#8216;pay as you drive&#8217;/&#8217;pay as you go&#8217; as the first choice. At the same time, there should be no burden on the customer for settling the claim.</p>
<p>In addition, the “fire” policy must have the option to choose add-on covers such as flood, cyclone, earthquake, landslide, rock slide, terrorism or opt out of a comprehensive fire and allied risks policy. Insurers must also provide a customer information sheet (CIS) to provide clear and concise policy details, including scope of coverage, exclusions, warranties and claim settlement process.</p>

<p>The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) issued a basic circular on health insurance on Wednesday. In this, the insurance regulator clarified that the insurance company will have to decide on allowing cashless treatment within one hour of the request. IRDA said in a statement that 55 circulars already issued on health insurance products have been repealed. This is an important step towards strengthening the empowerment of policyholders and promoting inclusive health insurance.</p>
<p>Insurance companies will have to decide on treatment permission within 1 hour of the request and settle the claim within 3 hours. These three hours will start when the hospital informs them for the claim. Also, this circular states that the policyholder does not need to provide any documents to prove the claim. According to the circular, this work will have to be completed by the insurer and TPA in coordination with the hospital.</p>

<p>The insurance regulator said, “The circular brings together the entitlements in health insurance policy available to policyholders/prospects at one place for their easy reference and also emphasises on measures to provide seamless, faster claim experience to policyholders purchasing health insurance and to ensure enhanced service standards in the health insurance sector.”</p>
<p>It states that insurance companies will provide a wide range of options to suit the affordability of the policyholders by offering a variety of insurance products for all ages, regions, medical conditions/all types of hospitals and health care providers by providing &#8216;products/add-ons/riders&#8217;. It also mentions the Customer Information Sheet (CIS), which is provided by the insurance company with every insurance document.</p>

<p>Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has revised the existing Customer Information Sheet to easily explain the basics of the policy purchased to the insurance holders.</p>
<p><strong>Insurance regulator issued circular in this regard</strong></p>
<p>The insurance regulator said in a circular sent to all insurance companies in this regard that the revised Customer Information Sheet (CIS) will come into effect from January 1, 2024.</p>
<p><strong>Policy document should be easy- IRDAI</strong></p>
<p>IRDAI said that it is important for the policyholder to understand the terms and conditions of the policy purchased. According to this circular, &#8220;A policy document can be full of legal complexities, hence it should be a document that explains the basic points about the policy in simple words and is full of essential information.&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>Insurance industry is still struggling with many complaints</strong></p>
<p>According to the circular, many complaints are still coming due to the disparity between the insurance company and the policyholder on policy related points. Keeping this in mind, revised CIS has been issued. In this, insurers will have to tell the name of the insurance product/policy, policy number, type of insurance product/policy and sum insured.</p>
<p><strong>Apart from the expenses included in the policy, all the information will have to be given &#8211; IRDAI</strong></p>
<p>Apart from this, policyholders will also be informed about the expenses included in the policy, exclusions, waiting period, financial limit of coverage, claim process and grievance redressal mechanism. According to the circular, the insurance company, intermediary and agent will have to send the details of the revised CIC to all policyholders. <p>Insurance regulator IRDA directed insurance companies to settle claims at the earliest in states affected by Cyclone Biperjoy. In a notification addressed to CEOs of all general insurance companies and health insurance companies, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) said that all claims should be surveyed immediately. Along with this, the claim payment should be done as soon as possible, and it should not take more time than the prescribed limit.</p>
<p>What the insurance regulator said: IRDA said, “Insurance companies shall encourage policyholders to make maximum use of electronic communication for correspondence while making claims and filing all relevant documents. Efforts will be made to ensure that as far as possible digital processes are adopted for assessment of claims.</p>
<p>The regulator has asked insurers to mobilize all resources to ensure prompt service response. This includes the services of investigators, surveyors and loss adjusters for speedy settlement of claims of the affected people after the cyclone.</p>
<p>Help from helplines: The notification said that insurance companies will assist claimants through their own 24-hour helpline, special claim counters at district level for speedy processing and settlement of claims with claim settlement teams.
