ITR Deadline Extended: The Income Tax Department has extended the ITR filing date for tax audit cases to December 10, 2025. This provides significant relief to taxpayers. The previous deadline was October 31. Read the full report.

ITR Deadline Extended: For those stuck in audit cases or worried about deadlines, there’s some relief. The Income Tax Department announced on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, that the last date for filing audit reports and Income Tax Returns (ITRs) has been extended to December 10, 2025.

CBDT Extends ITR Date
The Income Tax Department shared on the social media platform X that the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has decided to extend the previous deadline of October 31 to December 10. The Income Tax Department stated in the post that for taxpayers who are required to file returns under Section 139(1) for the assessment year 2025-26 (whose due date was previously October 31, 2025), the due date has now been extended to December 10, 2025. This decision was taken by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).

This means that taxpayers who are required to be audited can now file their returns by December without penalty.

The deadline had been extended before.
Initially, the deadline for submitting tax audit reports was September 30, 2025. It was later extended to October 31, following demands from tax professionals and CA institutes. However, as this deadline approached, the department extended the deadline again, extending it to November 10, 2025, and now to December 10, 2025.

What if the deadline is missed?
If a company or taxpayer fails to submit a tax audit report on time, they may be subject to a penalty under Section 271B of the Income Tax Act. Mint, in a report, stated that this penalty can be up to 0.5% of total sales or a maximum of ₹150,000. However, if the taxpayer proves that there was a valid reason for the delay, they may be exempted from the penalty.

Who is required to undergo an audit?

Taxpayers with business turnover exceeding ₹1 crore in a financial year, or up to ₹10 crore when cash transactions constitute less than 5% of total transactions, are required to undergo an income tax audit. Professionals with annual income exceeding ₹50 lakh are also required to undergo a tax audit. Professionals should also have their accounts audited if their annual gross receipts exceed ₹50 lakh.

ITR filing deadline extended: Information about this was given by the Income Tax Department on Social Media X. The department said that the deadline for ITR to be submitted by 31 July 2025 has now been extended to 15 September.

ITR filing deadline extended: The Central Government has given great relief to those filing income tax returns by extending the deadline for filing it. Now the last date for filing ITR for the financial year 2024-25 (AY 2025-26) has been extended from 31 July to 15 September. This means that salaried people and those taxpayers whose accounts do not require audit will now get 46 days extra time. If ITR is not filed by the last date, then a fine of up to Rs 5,000 will be imposed.

ITR deadline extended

Information about this has been given by the Income Tax Department on Social Media X (formerly Twitter). The department has said that the deadline for ITR to be submitted by 31 July 2025 has now been extended to 15 September 2025. This decision was taken due to major changes in the ITR form, the need to show TDS credit correctly and to prepare the system. Filing such a tax return will be accurate and easy. Soon an official notification will also be issued by the department in this regard.

Recently, the Income Tax Department has issued all seven ITR forms for the assessment year 20225-26, in which there have been many major changes. It is taking time to update the system to implement them. Utilities are also being tested. For example, ITR-7 for Trust or Charitable Institutions was notified on 11 May, while ITR-1 and ITR-4 for small and medium taxpayers were notified on 29 April.

The CBDT also said that TDS statements, which will be submitted by May 31, 2025, will all start appearing in early June. Due to this, there may be less time to file the return this time, due to which this step has been taken.

Usually, ITR forms are notified around February/March before the end of the financial year. However, this time the facility of filing ITR forms and documents was delayed as the officials of the Revenue Department were busy with the new Income Tax Bill which was introduced in Parliament in February. CBDT said, “In order to make the document filing experience smooth and convenient for the taxpayers, it has been decided that the last date for filing ITR which was originally July 31 has been extended to September 15, 2025.

The post ITR filing deadline extended: Big relief to those who file income tax returns, now you will be able to file ITR till this date first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.

New Delhi – More than one and a half months have passed since the start of the new financial year and the rush to file ITR has not started yet. The Income Tax Department has already notified ITR Forms 1 to 7.

Apart from this, several changes have also been made in Form 16 which is given to employees by the employer. In such a situation, a question has arisen in the minds of many taxpayers that whether the last date of ITR will be different this time.

This time taxpayers will have to file income tax returns for the financial year 2024-25. However, the rush to fill the ITR form among taxpayers has not started yet. The main reason for this is the non-receipt of Form 16 from employers. First, many changes are being made in Form 16 this time and secondly, employers should make Form 16 available to their employees by June 15. Obviously, the real rush to file income tax returns will start only after June 15. If someone does not get Form 16, then he can also file his return through Form 26AS.

What is the deadline?

The last date for filing ITR is usually July 31 and it is believed that the last date will be the same this time too. For the convenience of taxpayers, the government has simplified the ITR form, in which most of the information will be pre-filled. To avoid last-minute rush, taxpayers are advised to file their returns well in advance.

What happens if the deadline is missed?

If a taxpayer misses the deadline of July 31, he still has time to file his return with penalty and interest. Such taxpayers can file their returns till December 31. They will only have to pay some penalty and interest. However, if there is a taxpayer who needs to get his account audited, then he gets a chance to file his return till October 31 without any penalty or interest.

How much is the penalty?

If an individual taxpayer fails to file his ITR by July 31, he will have to pay a penalty. The penalty amount is Rs 1,000 for income up to Rs 5 lakh, while taxpayers earning more than Rs 5 lakh are given a chance to file their returns by December 31 by paying a penalty of Rs 5,000. However, such taxpayers are not given any further opportunity to adjust their losses.

The post ITR Deadline: What is the last date to file ITR?

The Bombay High Court has asked the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to extend the deadline for filing updated and belated income tax returns (Belated ITR Filing Deadline 2024) to January 15, 2025. The Bombay High Court directed the CBDT to extend the ITR filing deadline for eligible taxpayers under section 87A.

What is Section 87A?

Section 87A aims to provide relief to individual taxpayers, especially those in the low income group. It provides tax exemption to individuals whose total taxable income is up to ₹5 lakh under the old tax regime and up to ₹7 lakh under the new tax regime.

What’s the matter?

A public interest litigation (PIL) filed by ‘The Chamber of Tax Consultants’ argued that the filing utility software updated on July 5 arbitrarily denied taxpayers the right to claim exemption under section 87A of the Income Tax Act, 1961. The petition said that these changes made in the software used for filing returns for assessment year 2024-25 are illegal.

The Bombay High Court said, “The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) is directed to immediately issue the necessary notification under section 119 of the Income Tax Act and extend the deadline for taxpayers who are required to file returns by December 31, 2024, at least till January 15, 2025. It is necessary to ensure that all taxpayers eligible for exemption under section 87A are given an opportunity to exercise their statutory rights.”

What happens if we miss the new deadline?

If a taxpayer misses the new deadline to file ITR for 2023-24, then many problems may arise.

Penalties may increase – Penalties for late filing can go up to ₹10,000.

Loss of profits – such as losses from business/profession and the opportunity to carry forward capital gains will be lost.

Payment of Interest – 1% interest will accrue every month under Section 234A.

Important things to keep in mind while filing late return
Late Fees:

Late fee of ₹5,000 for those with income above ₹5 lakh.

Late fee of ₹1,000 for those with income less than ₹5 lakh.

If the income is below the taxable limit, there will be no late fee.

No Loss Carry Forward: Carry forward of losses from business/profession and capital gains will not be allowed.

Tax exemptions: Certain special deductions like section 80IA, 80IB will also not apply.

No change in tax regime: Change to old or new tax regime will not be allowed while filing late returns.

If ITR is filed on time, all these problems can be avoided. Therefore, taxpayers are advised to take advantage of the deadline extended by the High Court and file their returns on time.

The Income Tax Department has kept the last date (ITR Deadline) for filing income tax returns for the financial year 2023-24 as 31 July. While many people had demanded to extend the deadline.

According to the data released by the Finance Ministry, till July 31, 2024, 7.28 crore ITRs were submitted for the assessment year 2024-25, which is 7.5 percent more than last year. Interestingly, the ITR refund of those taxpayers who filed tax returns (ITR Filing 2024) at the last moment was processed quickly (Income Tax Return Processing) and money also came into their bank account. At the same time, there are some taxpayers who had filed tax returns (Income Tax Return Filing) long ago, but they have not received the refund yet.

It has been seen that some people got their refund within 24 hours of filing their income tax returns, but some taxpayers have to wait for more than a month. Their money is stuck for more than a month.

Why is there so much delay in getting Income Tax Refund?

If you had filed your income tax return before time, but you have not received your income tax refund yet, then do not worry. Many people are facing this problem. Many of you must be wondering why your return has not been processed despite filing ITR much before the deadline. Why is there so much delay? And how long can it take for the refund to come? Here we will tell you about it in detail…

Also Read: Bank Holiday 13 Aug 2024: Banks will be closed tomorrow in this state, check details

I have not received the money even after filing the tax

Generally, the Income Tax Department issues refunds within a certain time frame, but sometimes there is a delay. If you have filed your tax return on time but have not received your refund yet, then do not worry, there can be a delay due to many reasons. It is important to know the reasons for the delay in getting income tax refund. This will let you know why your refund is stuck and what you should do.

Can tax refund get stuck due to these reasons?

The form you have filled also makes a difference. Simple forms like ITR-1 or ITR-4 are processed quickly, while ITR-2 or ITR-3 may take some time. There may also be a delay if you have asked for a large refund. The income tax department will check your information carefully. There may also be a problem if you have given wrong information. If you have given wrong information in the tax return, the department will ask you to correct it, which will cause a delay.

Incorrect bank account information: Incorrect bank account number, IFSC code, micro code or account holder’s name may delay the refund.

Non-verification of bank account: If you have not already verified your bank account on the e-filing portal, then the refund may get delayed.

KYC not completed: If your KYC is not complete then you will not get a refund.

Wrong account type: If you have filled the account number incorrectly, there may be a problem in getting the refund.

ITR Deadline: It is mandatory for companies undergoing reorganization to file modified returns. The latest order of CBDT is about the same…

The tax department has given big relief to some companies in the matter of filing income tax returns. This relief is for those companies which have gone through business reorganization. CBDT has now given more time to such companies to file modified income tax returns.

Got time till 30th June
CBDT issued an order regarding this on Thursday. According to the CBDT order, companies undergoing business reorganization can now file modified returns till June 30. The increase in the deadline is going to provide relief to those companies whose business has undergone corporate developments like merger, demerger or amalgamation.

What does the CBDT order say?
According to the CBDT order, companies undergoing reorganization, especially the scheme of amalgamation, merger or demerger or the process of succession after insolvency under the approval from the competent authority, can now file modified returns till June 30, 2024. The extension in the deadline for modified returns is for those companies whose reorganization process has started after June 2016 and before April 2022.

Provision made in Finance Bill 2022
A provision for filing modified returns was made in the Finance Bill 2022 for companies undergoing business reorganization. Such companies were asked to file modified income tax returns after reorganization. However, this was applicable only to those companies for which the reorganization order had come between April 1 and September 30, 2022.

CBDT order clears up confusion
After the provision of modified returns in the Finance Bill 2022, a situation of confusion had arisen in front of those companies whose reorganization order had come before April 1, 2022. After the new order of CBDT, the confusion has been cleared and the companies starting the process of reorganization before the implementation of Finance Bill 2022 have got additional time to file modified returns.

ITR Latest News: If you also pay tax, then there is important news for you. There are only a few days left for the year 2022 to end and in such a situation, you have to do many important things.

Let us tell you that the last date for filing income tax return (Last Date for ITR) is also 31 December. Apart from this, the department has also kept the last date for filing Revised Income Tax Return as December 31, which means you have to do this work before December 31. Actually, in the new year you cannot take advantage of Revised ITR (ITR Benefits).

Know the rules of paying tax

According to the income tax rule, if you have not filed Income Tax Return till the last date, then you can file belated ITR ie Belated ITR. This year, the last date for filing income tax was July 31, 2022 and if someone has not been able to file the return till this date, then now they will have to file belated ITR, whose last date is December 31.

Fill Revised ITR by 31st December

If you have also forgotten to pay tax or if there has been a mistake in filing the return, then you must fill it by December 31. Actually, you can file Revised ITR to rectify your mistakes. Overall, the last date for filing both ITRs is December 31, 2022.

What does the rule say?

Now let us know what is the rule of paying income tax. According to the information given by the Income Tax Department, delayed ITR can be filed under Section 139(4) of the Income Tax Act 1961. The procedure for filing belated ITR is also the same. But even if you are filing belated ITR, then keep in mind that from choosing the form in the return, you will have to give detailed information about the penalty amount, interest rate and outstanding tax. 5000 will have to be given in the form of Rs.

Income Tax Calculator: People in the country have to file Income Tax Return once in a year. For those people whose income is taxable, then it becomes very important to file ITR. Let us know the deadline for filing taxes.

Income Tax Return Filing: It is mandatory for the taxpayers to file Income Tax Return. A deadline is issued by the government to fill it, within which taxpayers have to pay tax in any case. But some people are not able to file their Income Tax Return even by the due date. After that they have to pay tax along with fine. This penalty is collected as Income Tax Return (ITR) late fee.

have to pay fine

The last date for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) for the financial year 2021-22 was 31 July 2022. Taxpayers whose accounts are not required to be audited were to file income tax returns by this date. Such taxpayers who have not filed ITR by July 31 will have to pay a fine of Rs 5000 i.e. late fee.

Know till when you can pay tax?

The last date for individual or HUF or AOP or BOI (whose accounts are not to be audited) was July 31, which has passed. At the same time, the deadline for the accounts to be audited is 31 October 2021. Apart from this, business people whose TP report is required can file ITR till 30th November.

Know what are the terms and conditions?

Those whose date of 31 July has passed and they could not file their return due to some reason, they will now be able to file their return till 31 December 2022, but there will be some conditions. This return is called belated return, late return or revised return. Under this facility, you will file the return but you will be deprived of the benefits of interest and set-off, along with paying some penalty.

Date is till 31st October

Salaried individuals were required to file their income tax returns by 31 July, while corporates or those who need to audit their accounts can file their returns by 31 October of the assessment year. In such a situation, these people will not face any penalty for filing ITR return by 31 October.

Income tax filing is mandatory

Significantly, the department has been continuously requesting the taxpayers to submit the returns within the stipulated time to avoid the burden of late fee. However, this year a large number of taxpayers have filed returns as compared to the previous years. At the same time, now the holders of the account to be audited should also fill the tax in time.

The post ITR Deadline: Latest Update for Taxpayers, Now Income Tax Return can be filed by 31st October! first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.

ITR Filing AY 2022-23: The date of filing Income Tax Return for the Financial Year 2021-22 and Assessment Year 2022-23 will not be extended beyond 31st July 2022. Revenue Secretary Tarun Bajaj has given this information. He said that the government is not considering extending the deadline for filing income tax returns beyond July 31.

ITR deadline will not increase
, it is clear from the statement of the Revenue Secretary that the deadline for filing income tax returns will not be extended. If you are not filing income tax return thinking that because the government can increase the deadline, then do not make such a mistake. Otherwise you may have to pay penalty for late filing of return. In a tweet by the Income Tax Department on July 20, 2022, it was told that more than 2 crore taxpayers have filed returns so far. The Income Tax Department has requested the taxpayers that if the return has not been filed yet, then file the return soon.

The deadline has increased in the last two years, in
fact, the last date for filing income tax returns for the last two assessment years 2020-21 and 2021-22 was July 31. But in 2020-21, due to the lockdown imposed due to Corona epidemic, the last date for filing income tax return was extended, then in 2021-22 due to difficulties in filing returns for taxpayers in the new income tax portal. The deadline was extended till December 2021. However, the possibility of extending the date of ITR filing by the Income Tax Department in the assessment year 2022-23 seems slim. So don’t delay in filing income tax return. However, 4 crore taxpayers are still yet to file their returns.

Penalty for Late Filing of
ITR But if the annual taxable income of the taxpayer is less than Rs 5 lakh, then penalty fee of Rs 1,000 will have to be paid.

The post IT Department Big News : Government will not extend the last date for filing ITR, otherwise… first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.
