ITR Filing Last Date 2025 : There is relief news for common taxpayers. The last date for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) for the financial year 2024-25 i.e. assessment year 2025-26 has been extended from 31 July to 15 September 2025.

This decision was taken because the utility forms for Excel users of ITR forms (ITR-1, 2, 3 and 4) were issued late. Apart from this, there was also delay due to system upgrade and new reporting rules. Now taxpayers have got about 50 days extra time so that they can file and verify their ITR without any hurry. But can the date of filing ITR be extended.

Utility of which forms is still not available?

Excel utilities for ITR-5, 6 and 7 forms have not been released yet. Also, JSON based utility for online filing of ITR-3 is not available yet. Currently, this form is available only in Excel format.

Will the deadline be extended further?

Although the new deadline of 15 September has been announced, the question still remains among the taxpayers whether this date can be extended further? On this, tax expert Suresh Surana says that no official announcement has been made by CBDT i.e. Central Board of Direct Taxes yet. But the way the utility for some forms has still not been released, the filing time for taxpayers may be reduced. He said that in the last few years, whenever there have been technical problems or delays, CBDT has extended the deadline. This may happen this time too, but it would be too early to say anything right now.

Which people got the benefit?

This deadline has been extended for those salaried employees and HUFs i.e. Hindu Undivided Families whose accounts are not subject to audit. Now these people can file their ITR till 15 September 2025 without late fees.

If you have not filed ITR yet, then now is the time for you. But instead of waiting for the last date, it is better to file the return as soon as possible. So that any technical problem or penalty can be avoided.

ITR Filing Last Date 2025: The season of filing income tax returns is in full swing. A large number of taxpayers are filing their ITR. At the same time, the government had also extended the last date for filing income tax returns recently. In such a situation, many taxpayers are confused about the last date for filing ITR. At the same time, different dates have been fixed for different categories. Let us know about them in detail.

What is the last date to file ITR?

If you are an individual or Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) and your account is not required to be audited, then the last date for filing income tax return for you is 15 September 2025. The government has extended this date for the assessment year.

This is the last date for companies

At the same time, audit of the accounts of these taxpayers is mandatory, the last date for filing income tax returns for them is 31 October 2025. These include companies, proprietorship firms or working partners of a firm. However, these taxpayers will have to submit their audit report by 30 September 2025.

This is the last date for ITR with international transactions

At the same time, the last date for filing income tax returns for taxpayers making international transactions is 30 November 2025. However, taxpayers falling in this category have to submit a report under section 92E and it is mandatory to submit their audit report by 31 October 2025. This rule will apply to those taxpayers whose business or income involves international transactions.

Last date for filing belated ITR

Apart from this, if you have missed the last date for filing ITR and want to file the return even after the deadline, then the last date for you to file belated ITR will be 31 December 2025. That is, if you are a taxpayer of any category and have not been able to file the return on time, then you can file a belated return till 31 December 2025.
