The last date for filing ITR for the financial year 2024-25 is 15 September 2025 (ITR Filing Last Date). Till now only 3.68 crore returns have been filed which is half of last year. Delay may cause problems like server down. For salaried class, file ITR early otherwise there may be trouble. The deadline for audited taxpayers is 31 October.

There is an alert for those who file Income Tax Return (ITR). The last date for filing ITR for the financial year 2024-25 has been fixed as 15 September 2025 ( ITR Filing Last Date ). That is, now you have less than 20 days left. If you have not filed the return yet, then delaying it can prove costly.

This time the surprising thing is that the number of ITRs filed so far is not even half of what it was last year. According to the Income Tax Department’s website, only 3.68 crore returns have been filed till August 25.

Out of these, about 3.54 crore have been verified and 2.30 crore have been processed. Whereas last year more than 9 crore returns were filed in the entire financial year. This means that crores of people are still left to file ITR.

then this trouble can come
In view of this, experts believe that those who file returns should fill ITR early, otherwise a big problem may arise in the last days. Because, when people suddenly file ITR, they may have to face problems like server down.

Earlier the deadline was 31 July
The government had extended the deadline this time. Earlier the last date was 31 July, which has now been extended to 15 September. This deadline is for those taxpayers who do not require audit. That is, most of the salaried class people have to file ITR by this date. For those taxpayers who need to get audit done, the deadline is 31 October.

Top earners of 1 to 5 crores
If we look at the figures, the number of people earning more than Rs 1 crore in the country is increasing rapidly. As of March 31, 2025, 10,814 people with income of more than Rs 10 crore filed returns. At the same time, 16,797 people with income of 5 to 10 crores and about 2.97 lakh people with income of 1 to 5 crores filed ITR.

There is no tax on income up to 12 lakhs
There have been changes in the tax slabs as well. In the new tax regime, there will be no tax on income up to Rs 12 lakh. Salaried people will also get a standard deduction of Rs 75,000. That means a total income of up to Rs 12.75 lakh will be tax free. At the same time, a new slab of 25% tax will be applicable on people with an income of 20 to 24 lakh.
Let us tell you that the Income Tax Department keeps an eye on your every big transaction. Your account details reach the tax department through the bank. For example, if you deposit more than 10 lakh cash in your savings account or make a big FD-RD in cash, then its information goes directly to the tax department.

ITR Filing Last Date: Every year when the time comes to file Income Tax Return (ITR), many people keep postponing it till the last day. Then there is a rush in the last hour and there is also a worry in the mind whether it will be filed on time or not. If you are also one of those people who procrastinate about filing ITR, then this news is very important for you.

First of all, know that the last date for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) this year is 15 September 2025. Earlier this date was 31 July, but the government has extended it to 15 September so that taxpayers have more time. This date is for those whose accounts are not required to be audited, such as most salaried employees. For those whose business or financial records are audited, the last date for filing ITR is 31 October 2025.

Keep in mind that you can file income tax returns even after September 15, but after that there may be a penalty for late filing and in some cases a notice may also come. Therefore, it would be better to file your ITR before the deadline so that you can avoid any hassle.

How much is the penalty?
If you file your income tax return (ITR) after the deadline of 15 September 2025, you may have to pay a penalty. This penalty depends on your income: if your income is less than Rs 5 lakh, then the penalty will be ₹ 1,000 and if it is more than Rs 5 lakh, then the penalty will be up to ₹ 5,000. Apart from this, 1% interest will also have to be paid every month on the outstanding tax amount. Therefore, it is better to file ITR on time to avoid penalty and interest.

Let us tell you that filing income tax return is necessary for every taxpayer. This lets the government know how much your annual income is and whether you have paid the correct tax on it or not. It is very important to file ITR to collect tax from you in the correct manner and deposit it in the correct account.

Benefits of filing ITR
Filing ITR also gives you many benefits. The biggest benefit is that your legal responsibility is fulfilled and you are saved from any kind of tax lawsuit. Apart from this, if you have paid more tax, then you also get its refund. Also, the record of filing ITR is also important for you in things like taking a loan or applying for a visa.

The post ITR Filing Last Date Update: Why are you worried about the last date?

ITR Filing Last Date: The last date for filing income tax return (ITR Filing) without any penalty is 31 July 2023 i.e. today. Taxpayers can contact the department’s helpdesk, which is open throughout the day today to assist taxpayers in filing ITR, making tax payments and other related services. As per Section 234F of the Income Tax Act 1961, whoever files ITR late will have to pay a penalty of up to Rs 5,000.

Facing problem

If the annual income of small taxpayers is less than Rs 5 lakh, then they will have to pay a fine of Rs 1,000. With the completion of the deadline of 31 August, many tax payers are in a hurry to pay the tax. But many tax payers are facing one or the other problem while filing their returns. Those who did not file tax returns for any reason took to Twitter to raise their voice. Also demanded to extend the last date.

ITR filing portal down

User Amit Sharma wrote that ITR filing portal is down, please tell when it will be valid? Another user Prakash wrote that the website is down for two days and it is difficult to access. How should we pay tax? Krishna Arora wrote that the page is loading now, unable to fill ITR, every time the problem related to login is coming. ‘ITR Portal Slow’, ‘Waive Late Fee’, ‘Extend ITR Deadline’ are trending on Twitter regarding ITR.

This is the complete plan of the government, although it has already been clarified by the Finance Secretary that the government does not have any plan to extend the last date for filing ITR. The Finance Secretary had said in the past that this time more ITR returns have been filed than last year. Let us tell you that according to the update till now, this time more than 6 crore tax payers have filed returns.

The post Income Tax Return: ‘Extend ITR Deadline’ trended on ITR filing, government made a big announcement first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.

In such a situation, those people who have not yet filed their personal income tax return, they will have to file ITR by 31 July 2023 for the income of the financial year 2022-23. At the same time, for filing ITR, people will have the option of filing ITR from the new tax regime and the old tax regime.

Income tax return

While presenting the Budget 2023, many new announcements were also made by the Modi government. During this, a big announcement related to standard deduction for taxpayers was also made by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Actually, earlier the benefit of standard deduction was not available in the new tax regime, but it was announced in the budget 2023 that now the benefit of standard deduction can also be obtained from the new tax regime.

Standard Deduction

The term standard deduction refers to the portion of income that is not subject to tax which can be used to reduce your tax. Now income taxpayers can get the benefit of standard deduction on filing tax even after filing ITR from the new tax regime.

Standard deduction under the new tax regime

The benefit of standard deduction available to salaried and pensioners (including family pensioners) has been introduced under the new tax regime. A person opting for the new tax regime for the financial year 2022-23 will be eligible to claim standard deduction of Rs 50,000. Family pensioners opting for the new tax regime will be eligible to claim standard deduction of Rs 15,000.

Zero tax on income up to Rs 7 lakh

A person opting for the new tax regime for the financial year 2022-23 will have to pay zero tax if the taxable income does not exceed Rs 7 lakh in a financial year. In addition, a person with a taxable income of up to Rs 7.5 lakh can claim the benefit of standard deduction of Rs 50,000. This will reduce his taxable income to Rs 7 lakh and thus he will get zero tax liability.

The post Standard Deduction Benefits: Government had announced a few months ago, now getting the benefit first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.

The last date for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) for the financial year 2022-23 for the taxpayers of the country will be 31 July. New assessment year 2023-24 will start from 1st April. Generally, the due date for filing ITR is 31st July. It is expected that this date will also be the last date for filing tax returns this year.

Earlier, the government has extended the due dates for ITR filing due to various reasons. However, this year it is expected that the date will not be extended. This is also because the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has notified the new ITR form for Assessment Year 2023-24 more than a month in advance. The new ITR forms were notified by the CBDT on February 10 and are available on the Income Tax website.

Penalty will have to be paid if missed

Since the assessment year 2023-24 is starting from April 1, taxpayers will be able to file the return of income made in the financial year 2023-24 from April 1. The return filing facility will be available till 31st July, failing which you will have to file a belated ITR.

No major changes in ITR form

The Income Tax Department has not made any major changes in the ITR form as compared to last year. Only due to amendments in the Income Tax Act, 1961, some necessary changes have been made. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) notified Income Tax Forms 1-6 on February 10 for citizens, professionals and companies for income earned in 2022-23.

The Income Tax Department had presented a proposal in November 2022, in which it was said that there would be a common form for all ITR forms except ITR. This was done to simplify income tax return filing and reduce the time taken in ITR filing for individual and non-business taxpayers.

The new ITR form notified by the tax department includes a separate schedule for income from crypto and other virtual digital assets. The government had announced rules for taxation of crypto income in Budget 2022.

ITR Filing Last Date: Have you not been able to correct the mistakes or omissions in Income Tax Returns by 31st December 2022? If so, then there is no need to be disappointed. You are going to get one more chance.

You can use the option of ITR-U. In this news, we are going to tell you about this. According to section 139 (1) of the Income Tax Act, the last date for filing ITR in the year 2021-22 was 31 July 2022. For those who could not file ITR till this date, the last date was 31 December. If there was any mistake or correction in the returns, that too could be done by this date. But if you have missed the deadline of December 31, then you can file ITR-U under section 139 (8A).

What is ITR-U?

In Budget 2022, the Government of India had brought the option of ITR-U. This facility is beneficial for those taxpayers who have not been able to file their ITR or have made mistakes in previous returns. Through ITR-U, taxpayers can correct mistakes or omissions in their ITR for two years from the end of the relevant assessment year. In the assessment year 2021-22, you can file ITR-U by 31 March 2024. Similarly, for 2022-23, you can file ITR-U till 31 March 2025.

In ITR-U, you can show that income, which you could not show in your previous return. Moreover, this facility is available to anyone, whether or not he has filed original, late or revised ITR. If someone has forgotten to file ITR in any financial year, he can also use it.

Last Dates for Filing ITR-U

Assessment Year 2020-21: 31 March 2023

Assessment Year 2021-22 : 31 March 2024

Assessment Year 2022-23: 31 March 2025

Penalty for not filing ITR-U

You will also have to pay the penalty for not filing ITR-U. If you have forgotten to show any income, then you will have to pay an additional 25 percent of the tax and interest payable on it. This should be done within one year from the end of that financial year. If you are filing ITR-U after one year of the relevant assessment year and within two years, the penalty will go up to 50 percent.

Where to file ITR-U?

For this you have to go to the website of Income Tax Department.

Where you cannot use ITR-U?

Taxpayers cannot use ITR-U for filing zero return/loss return. It cannot be used to claim or extend refunds. Also, ITR-U is not allowed to be used to set off income tax liability from returns filed earlier.

ITR Filing Last Date: A top official said on Friday that the government is not contemplating to extend the last date for filing income tax returns as it expects most of the returns by the due date of July 31.

Revenue Secretary Tarun Bajaj said over 2.3 crore income returns were filed for the financial year 2021-22 till July 20 and the number is increasing. In the last financial year (2020-21), around 5.89 crore ITRs (Income Tax Returns) were filed till the extended due date of December 31, 2021.

Talking to PTI, he said that people were earlier thinking that the dates would be extended like before. So they were a little slow in filing returns initially but now on a daily basis we are getting returns between 15 lakhs to 18 lakhs. It will reach 25-30 lakhs.

Usually, the return filers wait till the last day to file the return.

He told that last time 9-10 percent entered on the last day. Last time, we had more than 50 lakhs (filing returns on the last date). This time, I have asked my people to be ready for 1 crore (for the last day).

As per IT rules, the deadline for filing ITR for one financial year by individual taxpayers who are not required to get their accounts audited is July 31 of the next financial year.

Through ITR, a person has to submit to the Income Tax Department of India. It contains information about the income of the individual during the year and the taxes to be paid on it.

The Income Tax Department has prescribed 7 types of ITR forms, the applicability of which will depend on the nature and amount of income and the type of taxpayer.

The new income tax filing portal of the tax department is now very strong to bear the increased burden.

“As of now, there is no thought of extending the last date of filing,” he said.

Bajaj said that the feedback received from taxpayers is that filing of return forms has become very easy and refunds are also being done in less time.

When some people complained about the difficulty in filing returns, he said that 2.3 crore people have already filed returns without any complaints.

He said, “Earlier 50,000 people were filing returns daily and now the number has gone up to 20 lakh. I am sure returns will increase in the next few days and people will file their returns.”

In the last two financial years, the government had extended the ITR filing deadline to ease compliance for taxpayers battling the Covid pandemic.

The post ITR Filing Last Date: Revenue Secretary said, no plan to extend the deadline for filing income tax returns first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.

ITR Filing Last Date: Return Filing is finding it difficult to choose the reason for filing Income Tax Return, OTP coming and e-verification, generating taxpayer information report. Also, there is a delay in opening the website.

The last date for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) is just 10 days away, but still professional Chartered Accountants involved in filing tax returns are facing some difficulties. They claim that the website (incometax.gov.in,) runs fine a few times a day, but becomes quite sluggish at times. However, as the last date approaches, the number of return filers is also increasing.

So far around 2.25 crore people have filed returns. According to the official associated with the matter, the officials of the tax department are in constant touch with Infosys, the company that maintains the portal.

Tax experts Yogendra Kapoor said that technical difficulties are being faced at some places. In some cases, things like data entry and form verification are either partially working or not working at all, he said.

Apart from this, experts believe that people are finding it difficult in return filing, choosing the reason for filing income tax return, getting OTP and e-verification, generating taxpayer information report. There are also complaints of delay in opening of the website and sluggish opening of many of its webpages.

Sources also say that proposals are coming to the Income Tax Department to extend the last date of return, but the Income Tax Department is not in a mood to extend the date yet. The focus of the department is currently on resolving the problems being faced on the portal.

The post ITR Filing Last Date: Last date to file ITR is just 10 days away, income tax portal slows again first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.

ITR Filing Last Date: 31st July is the last date for filing ITR. But, different forms are filed for income from different sources. Here is information about when ITR-1 cannot be filed.

So, at this time most of the salaried class people must be busy scanning their income and expenditure for the previous financial year and assessment year. However, the taxpayer should be aware that different ITR forms are applicable for individuals earning different types of income.

The easiest form among the various ITRs issued by the Income Tax Department is ITR-1. At times, ITR-1 is filed as a standard ITR form by taxpayers without understanding the exact eligibility to file the correct ITR form. Therefore, it is important for taxpayers to know under what circumstances the ITR-1 form cannot be filed.

Who can use ITR-1 form for ITR filing?

Income tax experts say that ITR-1 is a simple tax return form, which can be filed by a resident taxpayer whose total income does not exceed Rs 50 lakh. Income from sources like salary, income from other sources and only one house property is reported. It needs to be noted here that the return cannot be used by a director of a company or ESOP of a startup or tax deferred for a person having agricultural income. 5000 or has capital gains income.

Let us know when an earning person cannot use ITR-1 form while filing ITR for FY 2021-22 or Assessment Year 2022-23:

Annual income above 50 lakhs
If the earning person is a salaried person and has no other income, but the total annual income is more than 50 lakhs, then ITR-2 is the correct form for such taxpayer.

Income from more than one house property
If one has a house property, then the correct ITR form is ITR-1. But if there are more than one house properties, then one cannot file ITR-1.

income from agriculture
We all know that income from agriculture is not taxable. While filing income tax return, one needs to report income from agriculture above Rs 5000. Though agricultural income is not taxable, it is only required to determine the slab rate for taxation. And in such cases ITR-1 cannot be filed.

Equity investment in an unlisted company
If a salaried taxpayer owns equity in an unlisted company, then in such a case, the earning person is not allowed to file ITR using Form ITR-1.

being a director of the company

If the taxpayer is a director in a company, then in such a case, he cannot use the ITR-1 form.

Excess TDS Payment

If TDS is deducted on withdrawal of money in any bank/post office account in excess of the limit of 1 crore prescribed under section 194N, then an earning person cannot use ITR-1 form.

stock mutual fund investors

If the taxpayer is a salaried individual and is investing in shares or mutual funds, one can file ITR-1. But once these shares are sold or the mutual fund is redeemed, one cannot file ITR-1. The correct form for such income is ITR-2 or ITR-3.

HUF family member

If a taxpayer belongs to Hindu Undivided Family (HUF), then he cannot use ITR-1 form for filing ITR.

property outside India

If an earning person fulfills all the criteria of ITR-1 but has assets outside India, then the taxpayer cannot file ITR-1.

Income from freelancing

Many software professionals do some work as freelancers on weekends or in their spare time. Income from freelancing is income from business or profession. In such a situation, no one can file ITR-1. Such people need to file ITR-4 or ITR-3, as the case may be.

The post ITR Filing Last Date: know when you cannot file ITR-1? first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.
