The company has already fired 6000 employees this year

If this latest layoff is included, then the number of people losing jobs from Microsoft in the first 6 months of 2025 will exceed 15,000. After firing 9000 people, the total number of employees of Microsoft will be around 2,19,000.

Just last month, hundreds of employees were fired from the company’s platforms and devices group, which included major products like Android, Pixel and Chrome.

Earlier, Google’s parent company Alphabet had announced to lay off 12,000 people in January 2023, which was about 6% of its global workforce. This decision was taken in view of the economic uncertainty and the need to sharpen the focus. By the end of 2024, Alphabet had more than 183,000 employees.
