The Chief Minister said the decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting on Monday. “The Cabinet meeting held yesterday approved a bill making it compulsory for all private industries in the state to recruit 100 per cent Kannadigas (Kannada-speaking) for Group C and D posts,” he said in a post on X. According to Law Department sources, the bill will be introduced in the Assembly on Thursday.

100% reservation in private jobs

Let us tell you that a copy of this bill is with the news agency PTI, according to which any industry, factory will appoint 50 percent local candidates in management categories and 70 percent in non-management categories. Along with this, if the candidates do not have a secondary school certificate with Kannada language, then they will have to pass the proficiency test specified by the nodal agency.

Let us tell you that this bill also states that if local qualified candidates are not available, then the institutes will have to provide training within three years with the help of government or allied agencies.

Also, this bill states that if there are not enough local candidates, then the establishments will have to apply for exemption from this Act. Official sources said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah can announce this decision in the Assembly on Tuesday. This move will benefit more than seven lakh employees of the state government. The Seventh Pay Commission headed by former Chief Secretary K Sudhakar Rao has recommended a 27.5 percent increase in the basic salary of government employees.

This is estimated to put an additional burden of Rs 17,440.15 crore annually on the government treasury. The Siddaramaiah government was under pressure to take a decision regarding salary hike ever since the Karnataka State Government Employees Union announced its plan to go on an indefinite strike from August.

Increment twice within a year

The then Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had increased the salary of employees by 17 per cent on an interim basis in March 2023. The Siddaramaiah government can increase it by 10.5 per cent. Sources said that under the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission, this would result in a total increase of 27.5 per cent in the basic salary.
