Fixed Deposit Interest Rate: After the change in monetary policy by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the country’s big banks have started cutting the interest rates of fixed deposits (FD) and savings accounts. This indicates that the cycle of interest rates is now downward. Major banks of the country like SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and Kotak Mahindra Bank have recently implemented new rates. Let us know how much interest you are getting in which bank now.

State Bank of India (SBI) cuts FD rates by up to 75 bps

The country’s largest public sector bank SBI has reduced the interest rates on fixed deposits by up to 75 basis points (bps) on various tenures. The new rates have come into effect from June 15, 2025. Now common citizens will get interest ranging from 3.50% to 6.50% on FDs ranging from 7 days to 10 years. Senior citizens will continue to get 50 bps additional interest on certain tenures. Apart from this, SBI has also reduced the interest rate on savings account from 2.70% to 2.50%.

HDFC Bank new rates

HDFC Bank has reduced interest rates on FDs of less than Rs 3 crore. Now the interest rate on these FDs will be between 3.00% to 7.00%. The highest interest rate of 7.00% is being given on FDs of less than 2 years and less than 3 years. Along with this, the bank has also reduced the interest rate on savings account by 25 bps. Now 3.00% interest will be given on balance less than Rs 50 lakh and 3.50% interest will be given on balance of Rs 50 lakh or more.

ICICI Bank also reduced FD rates

ICICI Bank has changed the interest rates on FDs of less than Rs 3 crore from June 12, 2025. Now the interest rates range from 3.00% to 7.20%. The highest interest of 7.20% is being given on FDs of 13 months to 2 years.

There has been a reduction of 5 to 25 bps on other tenures as well. Especially the short-term deposits are seeing the biggest impact.

Kotak Mahindra Bank implemented new rates

Kotak Mahindra Bank has changed the FD rates from 12 June 2025. Now the interest rates on FDs of less than Rs 3 crore in the bank range from 2.75% to 7.25%. The highest interest rate of 7.25% is being offered on FDs of 390 days. There has been a reduction of 5 to 15 bps on other periods.

impact of reduction in interest rates

The direct impact of the reduction in repo rate by RBI is being seen on the returns on deposits. Usually, banks adjust the rates of FD and savings account as per the change in policy rate. In the coming days, more banks can take steps in this direction. If investors want to get better returns, then investing in long term FD or considering alternative fixed-income instruments can be a good option.

Kotak Mahindra Bank : Kotak Mahindra Bank has made some major changes in the terms and benefits of its Royal Signature Credit Card. These changes will come into effect from June 1, 2025.

If you have this card, then know that now the ways of spending, getting rewards and using the benefits are going to change.

You will still get these benefits

You will continue to get 4 reward points for every Rs 150 spent. Apart from this, you will also get the benefit of free use of domestic airport lounge twice every quarter. Facilities like surcharge waiver on fuel and railway ticket booking will also continue.

Limit imposed on fuel expenses

Now you will get 1% surcharge discount only on fuel expenses ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 5000. You will also be able to get a maximum discount of up to Rs 3500 in a year.

New limit for earning reward points

Now, reward points will be available only on spending up to Rs 70,000 on education and insurance in one statement cycle. Points will be available only on spending up to Rs 50,000 on utility bills and Rs 40,000 on government expenses.

Points will no longer be available on these expenses

Adding money to the wallet, paying rent, buying fuel and spending on online games will no longer earn you any reward points. Also, these expenses will no longer be counted in the milestone benefit.

The value of reward points has decreased

Now the value of each reward point has been reduced from 25 paise to 20 paise. To redeem in cash, it will be necessary to have at least 2000 points.

Lounge access will now be linked to expenses

Now you will get free airport lounge access only if you spend at least Rs 75,000 in the previous quarter. Only then will you get this benefit in the next quarter.

Interest rates and new charges also added

Now the interest rate on the card has increased from 3.5% to 3.75% per month. Along with this, a 1% transaction fee will also be charged on many expenses – like adding money to the wallet, online gaming, government expenses of more than 10 thousand rupees, utility bills of more than 50 thousand and fuel expenses of more than 35 thousand.

Fees will be levied on education fees as well

If you pay school or college fees through a third party app (like PhonePe, CRED or Mobikwik), then 1% charge will be levied. But if you pay directly through the school’s website or machine, then this charge will not be levied.

If auto debit fails then you will have to pay a penalty

If the auto debit EMI of your card fails, then you will have to pay a penalty of 2% on the total outstanding amount. This charge can be a minimum of Rs 450 and a maximum of Rs 5000. So if you use this card, then plan your expenses keeping these new rules in mind.

Kotak Mahindra Bank Interest Rate Cut on savings account: After the cut in repo rate by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), now Kotak Mahindra Bank has announced a cut in interest rates on savings accounts.

Leading private sector bank Kotak Mahindra Bank has announced a cut of 50 basis points (bps) in interest rates on savings accounts with daily balance up to Rs 5 lakh. It has been reduced from 3.50 percent to 3 percent. According to the official website of Kotak Mahindra Bank, the new rates have come into effect from February 17, 2025.

In the RBI’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting held between February 5 and February 7, 2025, the members unanimously decided to reduce its repo rate by 25 basis points (bps) from 6.50 percent to 6.25 percent. This is the first reduction in the repo rate in almost five years. RBI had continuously increased the repo rate by about 250 basis points (bps) after the Covid-19 pandemic.

From April 1, 2016, interest on savings accounts will be paid on a quarterly basis. Thus, interest on savings bank account calculated on daily product basis will be paid at quarterly intervals on June 30, September 30, December 31 and March 31 of every year.

How much interest will I get now?

According to the revised interest rates, from February 17, 2025, interest will be given at the rate of 3 percent per annum on a daily balance of up to Rs 50 lakh in a savings account. Whereas 3.50 percent annual interest will be given on an amount above Rs 50 lakh. That is, the interest rate of savings account has been reduced from 4 percent to 3.50 percent for a balance of more than Rs 50 lakh. These interest rates are applicable for both resident and non-resident accounts.

Kotak Mahindra Bank issued a statement on its official website saying, “Effective from February 17, 2025, savings accounts will get 3% interest per annum on daily balance up to Rs 50 lakh and 3.50 percent interest on more than Rs 50 lakh respectively. These interest rates are applicable to both resident and non-resident accounts (NRI/NRO).” This decision of the bank is a big blow for common account holders.

New Delhi. Private sector Kotak Mahindra Bank has got a big relief. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has lifted the restrictions imposed on the bank on February 12. Kotak Mahindra Bank can now issue credit cards to new customers. Apart from this, the bank will now be able to add new customers through online channels.

The Reserve Bank of India had imposed these restrictions on Kotak Mahindra Bank on 24 April 2024. Shares of Kotak Mahindra Bank closed at Rs 1943.30 on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Wednesday with a gain of 1.35 per cent.

What did RBI say on lifting the ban?

The central bank had instructed Kotak Mahindra Bank to stop adding new customers and issuing new credit cards through its online and mobile banking channels. Now the Reserve Bank has said that the bank took necessary steps to rectify its shortcomings and followed all the rules. Apart from this, an external audit was also conducted with the approval of the central bank so that these improvements could be confirmed.

Why did RBI impose restrictions?

RBI imposed restrictions on Kotak Mahindra Bank because deficiencies were found in the technical and security systems of the bank during the IT examinations of 2022 and 2023. The bank was repeatedly asked to rectify these problems, but timely and complete solutions were not provided. For this reason, restrictions were imposed on the bank.

Private sector Kotak Mahindra Bank has given a big shock to customers with savings accounts. The bank announced a cut in interest rates on savings accounts with balances less than Rs 5 lakh.

According to the website of Kotak Mahindra Bank, the new interest rates are applicable from October 17, 2024. This cut in interest rates has been made in the new bracket introduced by the bank.

Start of new bracket

Kotak Mahindra Bank has introduced a new bracket. Under this bracket, the interest rate on savings accounts with an amount less than Rs 5 lakh has been reduced by 50 basis points. The interest rate has been reduced from 3.5% to 3%. Let us tell you that earlier there were only two slabs for the bank’s savings accounts. In the first slab, the interest rate was 3.5% on an amount less than Rs 50 lakh and 4% on an amount more than Rs 50 lakh.

However, now the bank has created three slabs. One of these slabs is less than Rs 5 lakh. Its interest rate is 3% per annum. At the same time, the interest rate on the amount from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 50 lakh is 3.5%. After this, the interest rate on the amount more than Rs 50 lakh is 4%.

There is no change in the interest rate of FD

Kotak Mahindra Bank has not revised the interest rate on fixed deposits. The bank is offering interest rates between 2.75% to 7.40% for general citizens and 3.25% to 7.90% for senior citizens. These rates are effective from June 14, 2024.

Meanwhile, Kotak Mahindra Bank has announced its plan to acquire the personal loan book of Standard Chartered Bank India. This includes a total outstanding loan amount of about Rs 4,100 crore (about $490 million). These loans fall under the category of standard loans as per the guidelines set by the Reserve Bank of India. The proposed transaction is expected to be completed by September 30, 2024.

Kotak Mahindra Bank: RBI has also decided to ban Kotak Mahindra Bank from adding new customers through online or mobile banking channels.

RBI On Kotak Mahindra Bank: Banking sector regulator Reserve Bank of India has taken major action against Kotak Mahindra Bank. RBI has banned Kotak Mahindra Bank from adding new customers through online or mobile banking channels. Apart from this, RBI has also decided to ban the issuance of new credit cards of Kotak Bank. However, RBI said that Kotak Mahindra Bank will continue to provide all services to its existing customers including credit card customers.

RBI issued a press release saying that during the IT examination of the Reserve Bank of India for 2022 and 2023, concerns were expressed regarding various shortcomings in the bank. Kotak Mahindra Bank has failed to resolve these concerns within the stipulated time. RBI said that due to lack of robust IT infrastructure and IT risk management framework, the bank’s core banking system and its online and digital banking channels have faced several outages in the last two years. In the same month, on April 15, 2024, the services were halted due to which the bank customers had to face problems.

According to RBI, Kotak Mahindra Bank has failed to strengthen its IT systems with its growth. In the last two years, RBI has been in constant touch with the top management of the bank to strengthen the IT systems and overcome these problems. But the result has not been satisfactory.

According to RBI, there has been a strong increase in the volume of digital transactions of the bank, which also includes transactions related to credit cards. This has increased the load on IT systems. For this reason, keeping in mind the interests of the customers, RBI has decided to impose business restrictions on the bank so that long-term outage can be prevented because this will not only affect the customer services of the bank but also the financial performance of digital banking and payment systems. The ecosystem will also be shocked.

The season of saving income tax is going on. People are not only saving their money by investing in different schemes, they are also getting good returns and saving tax.

The financial year 2023-24 is in its final stages. Only a few days are left for this financial year to end. As time is passing, there is a race to save tax at the last moment. Some are investing in insurance and some are investing in government schemes. While very few people know that Equity Linked Savings Scheme

– ELSS (Equity Linked Savings Scheme) is one of the best tax saving investment options to save tax, but it also has risks. Most of the people who invest or save tax do not want to take risk on their investments. They want their money to be safe, even if the returns are low. For them, security of their earnings comes first. In such a situation, if you want to invest money safely to save tax, then Tax Saver Bank FD can be a good option.

What is Tax Saving Bank FD and in which banks this facility is being provided. What interest are banks offering on tax saving FD? Here we are discussing it in detail.

What is tax saving bank FD

Tax Saver Bank Fixed Deposit-FD provides the benefit of tax exemption under Section 80-C of the Income Tax Act. Tax Saver Bank FD is for 5 years. Money cannot be withdrawn from bank FD during the lock-in period of five years. In this, returns are guaranteed along with security of money.

Tax saving FDs from banks are operated under the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC), a subsidiary of the Reserve Bank of India- RBI. In this, the amount of Rs 5 lakh of the bank and the investor is covered.

However, the biggest disadvantage of tax saving bank FD is that the interest earned on it is tax deductible. For bank FD investors, including those with five-year tax savings, the tax liability does not end with the TDS deduction.

The interest received from FD is included in the annual income of the investor and then tax is imposed as per the income tax slab. Also, unlike regular FDs, most banks generally do not allow you to take a loan against a tax saver FD, while you can also take a loan against a regular FD.

How much tax can be saved in tax saving bank FD?

In Tax Saving Bank FD, the investor gets tax exemption on other savings schemes like PPF, repayment of home loan principal, life insurance premium etc. Tax exemption of up to Rs 1.5 lakh can be claimed on a five-year tax saving FD.

FD schemes and interest rates in 10 big banks

Here we are discussing in detail about the FD schemes of the top 10 banks of the country and the interest being given on FD-

HDFC Bank

EdgeFC Bank is offering 7 percent annual interest on normal FD. Here, senior citizens are being given half a percent more interest on FD at the rate of 7.5 percent.

ICICI Bank

ICICI Bank is giving interest on FD at the rate of seven and a half percent like HDFC Bank.

State Bank Of India

SBI, the country’s largest government bank, is offering 6.5 percent interest on general FD and 7.5 percent interest on FD for senior citizens.

Kotak Mahindra Bank

Kotak Mahindra Bank offers fixed deposit schemes to ordinary individuals for tenures ranging from 7 days to 10 years. This bank is giving interest rates ranging from 6.2 to 6.7 percent.

Axis Bank

Axis Bank is giving the highest interest rate of 7 percent on general FD and 7.75 percent interest on Senator Citizen. Here FD can be made for 5 to 10 years.

IndusInd Bank

IndusInd Bank is also giving interest at the rate of 7.25 percent on regular i.e. normal FD. For senior citizens, interest is being given at the rate of 7.75 percent per annum.

Bank of Baroda is running such a scheme. Bank of Baroda is giving interest at the rate of 6.5 and 7.15 percent per annum on FD.

Punjab National Bank

FD rates in Punjab National Bank are also lower than private banks. Here, 6.5 percent interest is being given on general FD, whereas 7 percent interest is being given on FD for senior citizens.

The post Saving FD Scheme : These banks are giving great interest on tax saving FD..Check Full details first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.
