However, those whose income is subject to audit will have to follow the earlier deadline.

If a person does not link Aadhaar and PAN card by the deadline of 30 June 2023, then his PAN will become inoperative. If this does not happen, then the person’s PAN card will become inactive.

How much will be charged after June 30,

if you do not link till June 30, then from July 1 you will also have to pay. This means that if the inoperative PAN is activated again, then a fee of Rs 1000 will have to be paid. This is the reason why the department is constantly warning that PAN and Aadhaar should be linked.

Know who has got exemption

PAN-Aadhaar Linking: If you have not yet linked PAN with Aadhaar, then today is the last chance. After this your PAN card will become inactive, which means you will not be able to do many things.

The last chance to link PAN card with Aadhaar card will end today. This means that if you do not link it by June 30, 2023 i.e. today, then your PAN card will be of no use. This document will be completely useless. You will not be able to use PAN card anywhere. Also, will not be able to take advantage of many facilities. However, if you have already linked Aadhaar and PAN, then you do not need to worry.

PAN card is used for opening bank account, investing in fixed deposits, opening demat account and investing in mutual funds. If you are going to link your PAN and Aadhaar today, then you will have to pay the late fee. This amount will be 1000 rupees. PAN and Aadhaar can be linked only after making the payment, which will be confirmed by the Income Tax Department.

Will the government extend the deadline for linking PAN-Aadhaar?

In the ET report, quoting experts, it has been said that the government should increase the deadline for linking PAN and Aadhaar. Because if this is not done then many problems can arise. Experts have argued that the deadline for filing income tax return is 31st July, in which case the deadline for linking PAN is terminated on 30th June itself, for those taxpayers who have not linked PAN. Those people will have to face problems. On the other hand, some say that due to the end of the PAN linking deadline, many works can be pending, in which case the deadline for linking it should be increased by about 4 months.

What will not happen if PAN is not linked

You will not be able to file the return. Last date for filing return is 31st July

Late returns will not be processed

Your tax refund will increase

Amendment in income tax return will also not be allowed

No interest will be earned on such refund

TDS and TCS can be deducted at higher rate

Such PAN will also affect banking transactions.

How to link pan with aadhaar

You can link PAN with Aadhaar by visiting the official website of Income Tax Department www.incometax.gov.in . The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) issued a notification on March 2022 saying that it is mandatory for all people to link Aadhaar with PAN.

PAN-Aadhaar Linking: Both PAN and Aadhaar card are very important documents. Both are used for many important works. In a way, many works can stop without these two documents. Like Aadhaar card is used as an identity card.

Today, whether it is government work or private work, Aadhaar card is required in all. Whereas PAN card is required for financial transactions. Not only this, Income Tax Return cannot be filed without PAN card. At the same time, the government is being asked to link these two with each other.

According to the government, it is very important to link PAN with Aadhaar. If PAN and Aadhaar have not yet been linked (Pan-Aadhaar Link), then the PAN card will be of no use. For this, earlier the last date was kept as 31 March 2023 and it was said that if the link is not done then the PAN card will become inoperative from 1 April 2023. But now it was informed that the last date for linking PAN and Aadhaar has been extended to June 30.

According to the new rule of the government, a fine will have to be paid for linking PAN card with Aadhaar card. Now the amount of fine is Rs.1000. According to the government, now if you want to link PAN card with Aadhaar, then you will have to pay 1000 rupees, only then you will be able to link both.

Link to SMS service like this

You can also link your Aadhaar card and PAN card using SMS service. For this you have to send a message to 567678 or 56161. After this UIDPAN<space><12 digit Aadhaar card><space><10 digit PAN> then send it to 567678 or 56161. By the way, you need to pay attention to one thing. If the name and date of birth of the taxpayer appear the same in both Aadhaar and PAN, then it will be linked.

Link can be done online like this

For this, first of all go to the official website of Income Tax. After this, click on the Service option here, there you will see the option of Link Aadhaar. After this you go to Know About Aadhaar Pan Linking Status option. Now a new page will open in front of you, here enter the details of your PAN and Aadhaar Card. After this click on ‘View Link Aadhaar Status’. Now click on the link Aadhaar button and thus the PAN will be linked with Aadhaar. After this you will see a message saying that you have successfully linked your Aadhaar card with your PAN card.

You need to know about this change made to link PAN and Aadhaar. Now a charge of Rs 1,000 will have to be paid for PAN-Aadhaar linking. There is an option of Assessment Year (AY) while making payment here but the Income Tax Department has updated the option of AY here.

PAN-Aadhaar Linking Update

The Income Tax Department has changed the option of assessment year to link PAN Aadhaar. You have to select the assessment year 2024-25 to pay a fee of Rs 1,000 for late fee payment. Till now the last deadline was 31 March 2023, for which you were choosing assessment year 2023-24.

Many other services will be closed if PAN is not linked to Aadhaar by June 30.

1) No person will be able to file income tax return using an inoperative PAN.

2) Pending returns will not be processed. Pending returns will not be processed

3) Pending refund will not be issued if PAN is not operative.

4) After the PAN is deactivated, if there is any problem in the return, then the action cannot be completed.

5) Tax will be deducted at a higher rate if the PAN becomes inoperative.

According to the CBDT circular, if a person’s PAN becomes inoperative, it will be deemed that he has not given a Permanent Account Number (PAN). The CBDT also said that if PAN and Aadhaar are not linked, taxpayers may face problems at banks and other financial portals as many KYC-related operations will not be possible with PAN.

Aadhaar-PAN Linking: The last date for linking PAN-Aadhaar has finally increased. The government has given three more months to the public to link these two documents .

Earlier its deadline was ending on March 31, 2023. Now in today’s latest update, this deadline (aadhaar pan linking deadline) has been increased to June 30, 2023. However, the condition of penalty is applicable for this period also. You will have to pay a fine of Rs 1,000 for linking PAN-Aadhaar. But there are some people in the country who do not need to link PAN-Aadhaar card at all. Whether the deadline increases or not, they should not worry at all.

Who does not need to link PAN-Aadhaar card

According to section 139AA of the Income Tax Act, every person in the country who was allotted a Permanent Account Number i.e. PAN on July 1, 2017 and who is also eligible to get an Aadhaar number, is required to link Aadhaar card with PAN card. Will give information about Aadhaar number. In other words, such persons will have to mandatorily link their Aadhaar and PAN with late fee payment by 30.06.2023. But there are some people who are exempted from this requirement.

Aadhaar-PAN linking is not required for those who:

live in Assam, Jammu and Kashmir and Meghalaya;
is a non-resident as per the Income Tax Act, 1961;
has been of the age of eighty years or more at any time during the previous year; or
are not citizens of India.

What will happen if Aadhaar is not linked?

According to the Income Tax Act, 1961, those PAN cardholders who do not come under the exemption category, if they do not link their PAN with Aadhaar by June 30, 2023, their PAN card will become inactive from April 1, 2023.

(i) He will not be able to file ITR using his inactive PAN.

(ii) Pending returns cannot be processed.

(iii) Refunds which are also pending will not be issued on this PAN. Pending processing cannot be completed once the PAN becomes inactive.

(iv) If PAN has become inactive then tax will also be deducted at higher rate.

From April 1, 2023, some rules related to transactions are being changed for the members of the National Pension System (NPS). Actually, the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has said that it is mandatory for the NPS account holders to link PAN-Aadhaar.

Failure to do so may result in blocking of NPS transactions. The authority said that NPS account holders should note that their NPS account is KYC compliant. According to the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) NPS subscribers should ensure that their PAN and Aadhaar numbers are linked before March 31, 2023 to ensure seamless ongoing transactions and avoid penalties .

PFRDA has said that since PAN is a key identification number for the account holder and is part of the KYC requirements for NPS accounts. Hence there is a need to ensure valid KYC for all customers.

According to the circular of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), if the PAN given to a person is not linked to Aadhaar by March 31, 2023, it will become inactive. If this happens, penalty and fine will be applicable under the Income Tax Act 1961. Every person who has been assigned a Permanent Account Number (PAN) as per the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961. He needs to inform the concerned authorities of his Aadhaar number so that Aadhaar and PAN can be linked. This should be completed on or before the notification date, otherwise the PAN will become inoperative.

How can existing subscriber update Aadhaar number in NPS account?

First of all login to your NPS account through https://cra-nsdl.com/CRA/.

After this, click on the sub-menu ‘Update Aadhaar / Address Details’.

Now click on ‘Update Details’ under the new menu that opens.

After that select the option ‘Add/Update Aadhaar Number’.

Now enter your Aadhaar number and click on ‘Generate OTP’.

Account holder should enter the OTP received from UIDAI on his registered mobile number.

After authentication through OTP, Aadhaar will be linked to your PRAN.

NPS account holders may note that the name entered for your PRAN should exactly match the registered name.

Thereafter, you will get the message that Aadhaar seeding request is successful for your Permanent Retirement Account Number (PRAN).
