Liquor Ban: Liquor ban has been implemented in the religious cities of Madhya Pradesh. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has called it a historic step towards de-addiction. The BJP state government has declared these 19 urban and rural areas completely holy. After this, people will not get liquor here.

Liquor ban was implemented on Tuesday in 19 religious cities of Madhya Pradesh including Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar and Maihar, as well as areas under selected gram panchayats. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has described the liquor ban as a historic step towards de-addiction. The Chief Minister had announced the decision of liquor ban. It was approved in the cabinet meeting held in Maheshwar city on January 24. Maheshwar city is associated with the famous queen of the medieval era, Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar.

Now you won’t find alcohol here

An official said that according to the decision, all liquor shops and bars will remain closed in the entire urban limits of Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar, Mandleshwar, Orchha, Maihar, Chitrakoot, Datia, Panna, Mandla, Multai, Mandsaur and Amarkantak and the gram panchayat limits of Salkanpur, Kundalpur, Bandakpur, Barmankalan, Barmankhurd and Linga.

Why was liquor banned in these areas?

The BJP government has declared these 19 urban and rural areas as completely sacred. A complete ban has been imposed on alcohol in the areas falling under their jurisdiction. CM Yadav said in a statement that the government has taken a historic step towards de-addiction. He cited the “public faith and religious devotion” associated with these cities and rural areas as the reason behind this step.

The religious places where the liquor ban will be implemented from Tuesday are spread across one municipal corporation, half a dozen municipal councils and an equal number of gram panchayats. Of these, Ujjain has the famous Mahakal temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Amarkantak is the origin of the Narmada river, which is considered the lifeline of the state.

A major change has been made regarding the sale of liquor in Thiruvananthapuram. BEVCO has issued a new instruction, under which now liquor will be available even after 9 pm.

However, this facility will be available only to those who queue up before the specified time. Till now, Baveco shops were open only from 10 am to 9 pm, but under the new orders, the shops will remain open till the last customer is served.

Outlet managers get new orders

Bavco has informed all its outlet managers to implement this new system. According to the orders, if any customer is standing in queues outside any shop even after 9 pm, then they will be given liquor. The purpose of this change is to solve the problem of those customers who could not buy liquor due to not reaching the shop on time.

The new rule will be applicable to all Bavco outlets.

This new instruction will be applicable to Bavco outlets across the state of Kerala. The special thing is that this rule will be applicable not only to regular liquor sales centers but also to premium outlets. However, the time limit for opening liquor shops has not been formally extended, rather this system has been implemented only for customers standing in queues.

Employees’ demands still not met

The labor unions had demanded an increase in incentive amount for employees working at liquor shops, but BAVCO has not taken any decision on this yet. Despite this, this change in working hours is being considered as a relief measure for the customers. According to BAVCO, this step has been taken due to increasing complaints that many customers are not buying liquor due to the expiry of the deadline.
