Under the old decision of Air India, Air India had suspended flights AI961 and AI962 operating between Delhi and Nairobi till 30 June. Apart from this, flights AI169 and AI170 operating between Amritsar and London were suspended till 15 July. Flights AI145 and AI146 operating between Goa and London to Gatwick were also suspended till 31 July.

Flights from Delhi to America were reduced

Air India had reduced the frequency of many flights operating between Delhi and America. This included flights from Delhi to Toronto, Vancouver, San Francisco, Chicago and Washington. Air India operates 42 flights a week from Delhi to these US cities, but it was decided to operate only 25 flights on these routes between 21 June and 15 July.

An Air India spokesperson said that due to the worsening situation in the Middle East, we have halted all flights there as well as flights to North America’s East Coast and Europe until further notice.

He said that flights coming to India from North America are being sent back to their origins, and the remaining flights are being returned to India or re-routed to avoid closed airways. The airline requested passengers to understand this disruption, which is beyond the airline’s control. The airline is talking to security advisors and monitoring the situation. Passengers will continue to receive updates, and their safety and security is the biggest priority.

Flights cancelled

Air India Express also confirmed that after the Iran attack, they have diverted or cancelled flights on the affected routes. The spokesperson said that due to the situation in the Middle East and the closure of Qatar airspace, our Kochi to Doha flight was diverted to Muscat and the flights from Kannur have returned. They clarified that they have no more flights to Qatar right now and they also have no aircraft in Qatar.

Qatar’s foreign ministry confirmed that Iranian missiles targeted the Al-Udeid base, which it considers a violation of its sovereignty, and warned that if tensions escalate, there will be further instability. The base was evacuated beforehand, so there were no casualties. Kuwait Airways, IndiGo, and Pakistan’s PIA have also halted flights to the Middle East and issued advisories.

• Lufthansa Group: The German airline has halted all services to Tel Aviv and Tehran until September 19, while services to Beirut have been suspended until September 30.
