The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday approved four major railway projects worth ₹24,634 crore. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, briefing the cabinet meeting, said the projects will cover 18 districts across three states. These projects are also beneficial for the tourism sector.

These four projects are included:

• Wardha-Bhusaval: Third and Fourth Lines – 314 km (Maharashtra)
• Gondia-Dongargarh: Fourth Line – 84 kilometers (Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh)
• Vadodara-Ratlam: Third and Fourth Lines – 259 kilometers (Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh)
• Itarsi-Bhopal-Bina: Fourth Line – 237 kilometers (Madhya Pradesh)

Projects covering 18 districts

These projects will cover 18 districts in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh. Upon completion, these projects will add approximately 894 kilometers to the Indian railway network. These projects will directly benefit approximately 3,633 villages, with a total population of approximately 8.584 million. These include two aspirational districts: Vidisha (Madhya Pradesh) and Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh). Improved connectivity in these districts will improve the quality of life and strengthen local industries.

What will be the benefits?

According to a government statement, this will also boost tourism. These projects will facilitate rail access to renowned tourist destinations such as Sanchi, Satpura Tiger Reserve, Bhimbetka Rock Shelters, Hazara Falls, and Nawagaon National Park. Furthermore, this route is crucial for the transportation of essential goods such as coal,

cement, containers, food grains, fly ash, and steel. The project’s implementation will enable the transportation of an additional 78 million tonnes (MTPA) of freight annually. Additionally, the projects will reduce the country’s logistics costs, save 280 million liters of oil imports, and reduce 1.39 billion kilograms of CO₂ emissions. This environmental benefit is equivalent to planting 60 million trees.

Railway Shares Rise
Following the government’s decision, railway shares saw a sharp rise in the last hour of trading. Shares of state-owned railway companies IRCON International Limited, Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), and RailTel Corporation of India Limited rose by up to 6%. IRCON International shares rose 7% to ₹184.4. RVNL shares closed at ₹355.6 on Tuesday, up 2.6%. RailTel shares rose 3.5% to close at ₹398.2.

PMUY Extension: Modi Cabinet has made a big announcement for women on the occasion of International Women’s Day. It has been decided to extend the subsidy of Rs 300 given by the government to the beneficiaries of Ujjwala scheme for one year.

Under this, 12 cylinders will be available annually. This scheme will continue till 31 March 2025. Announcing the extension of the scheme for one year, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that the Cabinet has approved to continue the subsidy of Rs 300 to the customers of PM Ujjwala Yojana till March 31, 2025. He said that the total expenditure on this will be Rs 12,000 crore.

First subsidy of Rs 100 from the government

This decision, which came before the Lok Sabha elections, is being considered as a big step of the government. As per rules, the government pays Rs 300 for eligible beneficiaries for up to 12 refills of LPG cylinder in a year. Earlier, a subsidy of Rs 100 was being given on this by the government.

But in October 2023, the subsidy amount was increased from Rs 100 per cylinder to Rs 300. The price of 14.2 kg LPG cylinder in New Delhi is Rs 903. Now when the beneficiaries of Ujjwala scheme will get subsidy of Rs 300 on the cylinder, then this cylinder will cost them Rs 603.

The benefit of Ujjwala scheme is

that the government transfers Rs 1600 to the eligible candidates for a new gas connection with 14.2 kg gas cylinder. This amount is Rs 1150 for 5 kg cylinder.

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) was started in 2016. Its objective was to provide LPG connections to five crore female members of Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in the first phase. The scheme was expanded in April 2018 to include women beneficiaries from seven more categories (SC/ST, PMAY, AAY, Most Backward Class, Tea Garden, Forest Dwellers, Islands). In the second phase, the target was increased to eight crore LPG connections.

How to Apply
The enrollment process for PMUY Ujjwala 2.0 requires minimal paperwork. Apart from this, migrants will not be required to submit ration card or proof of address to avail the benefits. They need a self-declaration for both ‘family declaration’ and ‘proof of address’.

Rs 75,021 crore will be spent

On Thursday, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that ‘PM Surya Ghar Yojana’ has been approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He further said that under this free electricity scheme, solar panels will be installed on the houses of 1 crore families of the country and the central government will spend a total of Rs 75,021 crore on this entire project. Apart from this, model solar villages will also be developed in every district.

But to avail subsidy you will have to upload a document. After issuance of the certificate, bank account details and canceled check will have to be submitted on the portal. After this the subsidy will be sent to your bank account.

• First of all go to the official website https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in and select Apply for Rooftop Solar.
• Now select your state and name of electricity distribution company. Then enter your electricity consumer number, mobile number and email.
• After this, login on the new page by entering consumer number and mobile. When the form opens, apply for rooftop solar panels as per the guidelines given in it.
• After completing this process, you will get feasibility approval, after which you will be able to get the plant installed from any vendor registered with your DISCOM.
• After solar panel installation, in the next step you will have to apply for net meter along with plant details.

The Labor Bureau is part of the Ministry of Labour. Last year in July 2022 DA Hike of 4% was done. Now once again 4% has been increased. From the CPI-IW data released on January 31, 2023, it was decided that there would be an increase of 4.23% in dearness allowance. But, it is done in round figure, so it is 4%.

Increase in dearness relief for pensioners

The government has also given Holi gifts to lakhs of pensioners of the country. Along with DA Hike, Dearness Relief (DR Hike) has also increased by 4%.
