The private airport operator said in a statement that scheduled temporary runway closure is an annual exercise and a contingency plan on the same will help maintain operational continuity and ensure safety of passengers. The exercise involves specialists from the engineering and airside teams, who inspect the runway surface for wear and tear that may occur due to day-to-day operations and help strengthen the airside strip.

The airport generates 5 percent of its energy requirement there, while 95 percent of it is generated from hydro and wind energy and imported there. Mumbai airport is the first airport in the country which is working completely on green energy since April. This year the airport had installed a hybrid solar mill of 10 kW peak. Due to which at least 36 kW of solar and wind power is generated every day.

Flights were diverted on Friday

Let us tell you that 8 flights were diverted at Mumbai Airport on Friday last week. Light drizzle and low visibility were cited as the reason behind it. All flights were rescheduled for that day. Passengers who had to suffer because of this were provided refreshments at the airport.
