Budget 2025: In the upcoming Budget 2025, the government may announce the implementation of new labor codes, which may bring significant changes in working hours and employee benefits.

According to sources, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman may announce the implementation of these labor codes in a phased manner, which will not only affect the employees but will also affect the businessmen. These new labor codes will be implemented in three phases, creating new challenges and opportunities for both employees and companies.

Phased implementation of Labor Codes

The aim of these new labor codes is to streamline the workplace and strengthen the social security of employees. This change will affect all types of businesses, small and large. In the first phase, large companies with more than 500 employees will be required to follow these codes. In the second phase, medium-sized companies with 100-500 employees will be brought under its purview. In the third phase, these codes will be implemented on small companies with less than 100 employees.

Small businesses will be given about two years to implement these rules. Considering that MSMEs (micro, small and medium-sized enterprises) account for 85% of India’s business structure, their transition will be particularly important.

Impact on working hours and salaries

These new rules may also include a policy of working four days a week and resting for three days. Its purpose is to create a work-life balance for employees. However, the four-day working rule may lead to an increase in working hours, and provident fund (PF) deductions may increase, which may reduce the salary of employees.

The labour ministry is in talks with various states, such as West Bengal and Delhi, to implement these codes, where draft regulations are being finalised. The government hopes to implement the Wages and Social Security Code by March 2025, while rules for the rest of the codes are being framed with the remaining states.

What are Labor Codes?

The Government of India has consolidated 29 central labour laws into four major labour codes that aim to strengthen businesses and enhance social security of employees. These codes include:

Industrial Relations Code

Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code

Modi government is soon going to give a big gift to the employees. We are talking about New Labor Codes. Most states are ready to implement these labor codes. The government can implement these four new labor codes in a phased manner. According to reports, the code related to salary and social security code may be implemented first.

After this the remaining two codes can be implemented. One is the Industrial Relations Code and the other is on job-specific safety, health and workplace conditions (OSH). However, no fixed date has been revealed when the new labor codes will come into force. The new labor codes are going to be of great benefit to the employees.

PM Modi had given indications that the government is in favor of providing a better working environment to the employees. PM Modi had said in a recent program that work from home ecosystem, flexible work places and flexible working hours are the needs of the future. The PM said, “You are also seeing the way the nature of jobs is changing with the changing times. The world is changing rapidly and we also have to be prepared at the same pace to take advantage of it.”

Employees are eagerly waiting for the implementation of 4 labor codes in the country for a long time. The Union Ministry of Labor and Employment had finalized the rules under these labor codes last year. Earlier it was being said that these labor codes will be implemented from the financial year 2022-23 i.e. from April 1, but it did not happen. After this it was said that these labor codes can be implemented from July 1. But due to non-preparation of drafts by many states, these could not be implemented. Let us know what are included in these four labor codes.

These are the four labor codes

The four labor codes being implemented by the government include the Wage/Wage Code, the Code on Industrial Relations, the Code on Work-specific Safety, Health and Workplace Conditions (OSH) and the Social and Occupational Safety Code. Significantly, the Ministry of Labor has incorporated 44 types of old labor laws into four major codes to improve labor laws. It is believed that the implementation of these labor codes will greatly benefit the employees.

Work days in the week will decrease

After the implementation of the new labor codes, the number of working days in the week of the employees will decrease. With the new rule, the working days of employees can be reduced from five to four in a week. That is, employees will get three days off in a week. But the daily working hours of the employees will increase. According to the rule, 48 hours work has to be done in a week. This means that one working day has to work for 12 hours.

The post New Labor Codes: New labor codes are being implemented for the employees from this day? date announced first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.
