How to make a passport online

To get a passport, first you have to go to the passport service portal https://passportindia.gov.in. This is the official portal of the Government of India, from where you can avail all the services related to passport. Here you have to register yourself by clicking on ‘New User? Register Now’, in which basic details like name, date of birth, email and mobile number have to be filled. After registration, you will get a user ID and password, with which you can login to the portal.

After logging in, click on the ‘Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport’ option. Here you will see an application form in which you have to fill in personal information, address and other necessary details. After filling the form, you can schedule an appointment at the nearest Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) by clicking on ‘Pay and Schedule Appointment’. For payment, you can use options like net banking, debit/credit card or UPI.

Required documents and fees

Some important documents are required for applying for a passport, such as identity proof (Aadhar card, voter ID), birth certificate and address proof (electricity bill, bank statement). Apart from this, fees have to be paid according to the type of passport. For example, the fee for a normal passport can range from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000, while for an instant passport, this fee can be higher.

You can take help of mobile app

Apart from the passport seva portal, you can also use the ‘mPassport Seva’ mobile app, which you can download from Google Play Store. With the help of this app, you can track the status of the application, schedule appointments and avail other services.

The central government has amended the rules for those applying for passport. According to the new amendments, now the birth certificate issued by the government and appropriate authorities will be the only proof of date of birth for applicants born on or after October 1, 2023. In the absence of this, the date of birth will not be considered correct.

An official note was issued by the Central Government this week, giving effect to the amendments in the passport rules of 1980. Regarding this note, the officials said that the new rules will come into force after the amendments are published in the official gazette.

According to these new rules, only birth certificates will be valid for proof of date of birth of people born on or after 1 October 2023. This birth certificate should be issued by a Registrar of Births and Deaths, Municipal Corporation or any appropriate officer empowered under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969. Apart from this, applicants before this date can also submit alternative documents like driving license or school leaving certificate as date of birth certificate as per the old system.

New Passport: Now the residents of Agra will not have to wait for 90 days to get a new passport or to get their passport renewed. Now, instead of 40, 80 applicants are being given online appointments in a day at the main post office passport service center. That is, if the applicants apply online today, they will get an appointment on January 22 for certificate verification. After just 15 days, the applicant’s certificates will be verified at the passport center.

Let us tell you that in February 2018, Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) was started in the main post office located at Bijlighar. For the convenience of the applicants, a second passport service center was operated in Achhnera. But, the waiting graph did not come down. 40-40 applicants were being called for certificate verification every day at both the centers.

Even after this, there was a waiting of 90 days at the Agra center. In Achhnera, people were getting online appointment after 40 days. The situation became such that out of the 11 POPSKs of the Regional Passport Office Ghaziabad, Agra emerged as the center with the highest number of applications. Keeping this in mind, now the number of slots available daily in Agra has been increased.

Convenience to 120 applicants At present, 120 passport applicants are getting facility in a day in Agra. While 80 passport applicants are getting benefit at the Agra centre, 40 applicants are getting benefit from the Achhnera centre. At Achhnera, the applicants are getting appointment for February 11. Applicants who have taken appointment earlier can book these slots by re-scheduling the appointment.

Certificates are verified

After applying online for a new passport or renewal, the applicant is called to the office for certificate verification. After certificate verification, they are scanned and uploaded on the portal. After this, the process of police verification begins. After the police report is received, the passport is printed from Ghaziabad and sent to the applicant’s home through post. Earlier, applicants had to go to Ghaziabad for this work.
