According to a report by Times of India, OYO has directed its partner hotels to implement this rule in Meerut with immediate effect. The company says that based on the impact and feedback of this rule, it can be implemented in other cities as well. The company says that civic groups and local residents of Meerut and some other cities had demanded OYO to stop unmarried couples from checking in. These groups had requested OYO to take steps in this direction, calling the policy “in line with the values ​​of the society”, after which this decision has been taken.

Speaking to PTI, OYO North India Region Head, Pawas Sharma said, “OYO is known for maintaining safe and responsible hospitality practices. “We respect individual freedoms, but we also have a responsibility to work with local laws and societal considerations.” Sharma also said that the company will review this rule from time to time. OYO said that this new rule is part of its vision to establish the brand as a safe and trusted option for families, students, business travelers, religious tourists and solo travelers.
