The Indian government has cancelled 14 types of visas issued to Pakistani citizens. The central government has directed the Chief Ministers of all the states to identify Pakistani citizens and send them to Pakistan, after which the police of many states have come into action and are sending Pakistani citizens across the border.

The Indian government had said in its decision that Pakistani citizens below the age of 13 out of 14 types of visa categories will have to leave India by April 27 at any cost. This deadline expired yesterday. However, to provide relief to citizens with medical visas, they have been given time till April 29, so that they can complete their treatment and also complete the medical documents. Now the question is, what will happen if people with medical visas do not return to Pakistan on time? How will they be identified? What action will the Indian government take against such citizens?

A large number of people from Pakistan come to India for treatment. The Indian government issues medical visas to such citizens for treatment, a maximum of two assistants are allowed to come to India with a medical visa holder. Now the Indian government has canceled all these visas, however, citizens with medical visas have been given an additional two days on humanitarian grounds, such citizens will have to leave India by April 29. The government has also asked medical visa holders to keep their treatment documents ready so that they do not face any problem during the examination.

What will happen if I don’t return on time?

This sudden decision by the Indian government has created difficulties for Pakistani patients who are scheduled to undergo surgery or treatment in the coming days. According to the orders, medical visa holders will have to leave India by April 29, in such a situation, the biggest problem is how these patients will be able to continue their treatment.

At present, the Indian government has not clarified its stand on this. In such a situation, it is certain that medical visa holders will also have to return from India before the stipulated time limit. If any Pakistani visa holder violates this order, he will be considered an ‘illegal foreigner’. They will be considered an offender under the Immigration and Foreigners Act 2025 and they can be imprisoned for 1 to 5 years or fined.

The Indian government has complete information about the foreign nationals to whom it issues visas. In fact, before issuing visas, foreign nationals are asked about the purpose of their travel and also about where they will stay in India. In such a situation, the Indian government has complete data of such nationals. After the expiry of the time limit, the Indian government can also punish these nationals and send them to Pakistan.

In the year 2023-24, 6,871 cargo vehicles passed through this port and 71,563 people traveled through this route. During this period, a total trade of Rs 3,886.53 crore was done.

This port has been an important trade route between India and Pakistan for a long time. India sends goods like soybean, chicken feed, vegetables, red chillies, plastic granules and plastic thread from here. On the other hand, dry fruits, dry dates, gypsum, cement, glass, rock salt and various kinds of herbs come to India from Pakistan and other countries. Now the closure of this port will affect the trade of these things, especially those small traders and companies who depend on this cross-border trade.
