Insurance regulator IRDAI has issued a master circular regarding the rights of insurance policyholders. This circular includes the time limit for claim settlement of both e-insurance policies, health life insurance policies and the rights of policyholders with multiple health insurance policies. The main points of the circular are as follows.

All insurance policies in e-format

All insurance policies must be issued in electronic format. e-insurance policies can be digitally signed by the customer. Customers can request the insurance company that they want the policies to be issued in physical format. Keep in mind that if you want the policy documents or brochures in physical format, you must mention it in the proposal form.

Time limit

The insurance company must issue the policy within 15 days of accepting the proposal form. Under the new rules, the insurance company is not allowed to collect the initial premium along with the proposal form.

Documents to be obtained

Along with the insurance policy, the policyholder must obtain the following documents from the insurance company like, covering letter for the policy document mentioning the free look period, policy document, a copy of the proposal form submitted by the prospective customer, copy of the benefit illustration, customer information sheet etc.

CIS Mandatory

Customer Information Sheet (CIS) is an important document that companies mandatorily provide to their customers along with their insurance policies. It serves as a summary of the key features and benefits of the policy. It ensures that policyholders are well informed about their coverage.

30 Days Free Look Period For a life insurance policy of one year or more, the policyholder will have a free look period of 30 days. If the policyholder is dissatisfied with the terms or conditions of the policy, he has the option to return the policy to the company for cancellation within these 30 days.

Insurance Ombudsman offices across the country have started receiving complaints from policyholders related to compensation claims up to Rs 50 lakh.

Earlier, these offices were allowed to take complaints related to claims up to Rs 30 lakh. Insurance Ombudsman officials and people associated with this industry had demanded to increase this limit. The reason for this is that now many policyholders buy term insurance, health insurance, critical insurance and personal accidental insurance with sum assured of more than Rs 1 crore.

A study by Policybazzar has revealed that in the financial year 2022-23, rich people showed more interest in buying a policy with a cover of Rs 1.75 crore. There are many reasons for this. People’s income is increasing. Awareness regarding insurance products is increasing. Policyholders who cannot lodge their complaints with the Insurance Ombudsman have to approach the Consumer Court.

Complaints will be resolved soon

Shilpa Arora, Chief Operating Officer of Insurance Samadhan, a company that helps policyholders, said, “The decision to increase the limit of complaints is welcome. This will also help in resolving complaints related to higher value claims. First, for this, policyholders have to go to the consumer court.

” It used to take 1-2 years to resolve the complaints. In the Ombudsman office, the complaints are resolved in three months.” However, many people believe that it is still better for the policyholder to approach the consumer court directly. Experts also say that the complaints of policyholders are more likely to be resolved satisfactorily in the consumer court.

Complaints can also be made online

Policyholders need to understand that if their claim is rejected, they can complain to IRDAI and the Ombudsman offices of their city. Complaint can also be made online. For this you have to go to www.cioins.co.in/Complaint/Online. It is necessary to file a complaint within one year of the claim being rejected.

Before complaining to the Insurance Ombudsman office, the policyholder can inform the insurance company about his complaint. After this he will have to wait for 30 days. If there is no response from the insurance company then one can complain to the Ombudsman office. The Ombudsman Office is required to dispose of the complaint within 90 days.

The path of appeal is open in the consumer court

If a policyholder is not satisfied with the decision of the Ombudsman Office, he can appeal to the Consumer Court. Insurance companies are required to comply with the Ombudsman’s decision within 30 days. If this does not happen, the policyholder can inform the Ombudsman office. In such a situation, insurance companies may have to pay interest.

There are many such features in the policy which have been prepared according to the needs of the policyholders. These include flexible premium payment, which can be done monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or annually.

LIC Bima Ratna Yojana is a life insurance policy by Life Insurance Corporation of India to provide savings and financial security to the people. This non-participating and non-linked personal life insurance scheme can be purchased from LIC’s Corporate Agents, Brokers, Insurance Marketing Firms (IMFs) and Common Service Centers.

There are many such features in the policy which have been prepared according to the needs of the policyholders. These include flexible premium payment, which can be done monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or annually. A grace period of 30 days has been given for quarterly, half-yearly and annual premiums. While a grace period of 15 days has been given for the premium every month.

Discount on premium

Policyholders can also avail rebate on their premium, 2% rebate is given for annual payment and 1% rebate is given for high annual payment. If the policy lapses, it can be revived within five years from the date of first premium payment. If less than two full years’ premiums have been paid, the policy will lapse after the end of the grace period. If at least two years’ premiums have been paid, the policy will be deemed to be completely void but the policy will continue to be a paid-up policy till the end of the term.

After paying premiums for two full years, the policyholder can surrender the policy, and the surrender value will be equal to the higher of the Special Surrender Value or the Guaranteed Surrender Value. Additionally, the loan can be availed after paying premiums for at least two years.

Death benefit is also available

LIC Bima Ratna plan also offers several benefits, such as death benefit which provides financial assistance to the family of the policyholder after the death of the policyholder. Guaranteed additional amount under death benefit which will be higher of seven times the annualized premium or 125% of the Basic Sum Assured. In this policy, the investors are also given survival benefit, in which a fixed sum assured amount is paid to the surviving policyholder in the respective policy tenure.

The maturity benefit is the Sum Assured on maturity, which is equal to 50% of the Sum Assured. Apart from this, the guaranteed benefit will be paid to the surviving life insurance holder on the date of maturity.

Understand the complete calculation here

The minimum sum assured amount for LIC Bima Ratna plan is Rs 5 lakh, there is no limit on the maximum amount. Whether the policy term is 15 years, 20 years or 25 years, premium paying term of 11 years for policy terms of 15 years, 16 years for policy terms of 20 years and premiums to be paid throughout the tenure for policy terms of 25 years .

In the policy, you will get a guaranteed return of Rs 55 on the sum assured of Rs 1000 from 6th to 10th year. Therefore, on the sum assured of Rs 10 lakh, the guaranteed return after 10 years will be Rs 55 thousand. The maturity benefit for this policy will be Rs 5 lakh, which is 50% of the total sum assured, and add Rs 55,000 to this as an additional benefit.

In case of death of the policyholder during the term of the policy, to his family 12. A death benefit of Rs 5 lakh will be available and Rs 10 lakh as sum assured and Rs 55 thousand as guaranteed return will also be available. This means that the family will get a total of Rs 23.05 lakh.

What is LIC’s New Jeevan Shanti Plan?
