Driving License: Driving license (DL) and registration certificate (RC) of about 1.10 lakh vehicle owners in Ara district of Bihar are in danger of being suspended. The reason is that the mobile number has not been updated in the documents.

According to the District Transport Department, there are 33,607 DLs and 76,873 RCs in Bhojpur in which the mobile number has not been updated yet. Out of these, more than 50,000 numbers are more than 10 years old.

Vehicle owners may face problems

According to the new guidelines of the Transport Department, if the mobile number registered in DL and RC is not updated, then vehicle owners will not get information about departmental schemes and notifications. Not only this, vehicle owners may face problems due to not getting any OTP or information when needed.

Update your mobile number by March 31, otherwise action will be taken

Bhojpur District Transport Officer said that the DL and RC of those vehicle owners who have not updated their mobile numbers by March 31, 2025 can be suspended. He appealed that the vehicle owners should get their numbers updated as soon as possible so that any kind of inconvenience can be avoided.

How to update mobile number?

For Driving License (DL): Visit https://parivahan.gov.in/parivahan/

For Registration Certificate (RC): Visit sarathi.parivahan.gov.in and update.

Vehicle owners may have to face a lot of trouble if they do not update their mobile number on time, so complete this process soon.

UP Smart Card RC: Now, vehicle buyers in UP will also get a Smart Registration Certificate (RC) like Delhi. It will have a micro chip like a SIM card. All the data related to the vehicle will be saved in it.

This will free the vehicle owner from keeping the big RC paper. UP Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh has announced this on Tuesday. With the introduction of this facility, many problems of the people will end.

What is Smart RC?

Smart RC has a chip like a SIM card. Details like date of registration, name of the owner are on the card. Apart from this, the microchip contains all the details like challan, traffic violation, permit etc. Dayashankar Singh said that the Transport Corporation will now issue a smart card in place of the registration certificate.

Vehicle owners will get convenience

Till now, paper RC is issued in UP . It is quite large which makes it difficult to store it. Since it is a paper RC, there is a possibility of it getting torn or getting wet. During traffic checking, complete information can be obtained by scanning the smart card. Till now, information had to be taken from the RTO for this. With its issuance, people will also be able to avoid fraud.

This information will be on the RC

Vehicle registration number, date and validity
Chassis number, Engine number, Owner’s name and address
Fuel type, pollution standards, vehicle model and colour
Seating, standing and sleeping capacity
Weight capacity, horse power, wheel base and name of the financier

Electronic card: No physical Driving license or RC needed for Delhi vehicles soon

The Delhi government is planning to replace smart cards, driving license (DL) and vehicle registration certificate (RC) with electronic cards. According to reports, these new cards can be printed just like the Aadhar card. They will be easy to use.

Benefits of the new scheme

According to an official of the Delhi Transport Department, the scheme is being reviewed, which was first introduced by the Rajasthan government. The aim of this scheme is to convert the smart card system into digital form. Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot brought forward this scheme to solve the problems related to vehicle registration. He had expressed concern over the delay in the delivery of Registration Certificate (RC) and had directed to take action on it.

Facility will be available through electronic card

Electronic cards will be very convenient for people. Under this, applicants will be able to print documents themselves, like Aadhaar card is printed. These cards will have a unique ID and QR code, which will be used by the traffic police for document verification. According to a transport department official, these electronic documents can also be accessed through DigiLocker or mParivahan app. This will ensure that people do not have any problem in showing their documents at any time and this work will become very easy.

Lakhs of licenses and RCs issued last year

According to reports, between 2023 and 2024, the Delhi Transport Department had issued 1.6 lakh driving licenses and 6.69 lakh registration certificates till May. Under this new scheme, now only electronic driving licenses and registration certificates will be issued.

Steps towards digital RC

Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot has directed the officials to study the facility of digital RC. This scheme is to provide better services to the residents of Delhi. Under this, PDF format of the documents will be made available on the Transport Service Portal, which will have the facility of verification through QR code. Along with this, relevant links will be sent to the registered mobile numbers of the applicants, so that they can easily get their documents.

The Delhi government is planning to replace driving licenses and RCs with electronic cards. These cards will be easily printable and can be verified through DigiLocker and mParivahan apps.

The Delhi government is planning to replace the existing smart card driving license and vehicle registration certificate (RC) with their electronic cards. These electronic cards will be like Aadhar card, which can be printed out. Also, there will be an ID and QR code on the driving license and RC, which the traffic police can scan to confirm the authenticity of the documents. These can also be shown to the traffic police whenever needed through DigiLocker and mParivahan app. In the financial year 2023-24, 1.6 lakh driving licenses were issued in Delhi and 6,69,373 RCs were issued from April 2023 to May 2024.

An official of the Transport Department said that the state government is reviewing a scheme proposed by the Rajasthan government, which talks about issuing electronic licenses and RCs by eliminating the smart card system. It is worth noting that recently Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot had ordered the officials to resolve the problems arising in vehicle registration. In a meeting, Gehlot had expressed concern over the delay in the delivery of vehicle RCs. Expressing concern over vehicle dealers not giving vehicle RCs on time, Gehlot had directed the department to take action against non-compliant dealers.

Keeping RC and DL will be easy.

According to a report by Times of India, converting driving license and RC into electronic format will be very convenient for people. Applicants will be able to print these electronic documents themselves, like they print Aadhaar card. To download these, the applicant will need his driving license information such as application number, license number and date of birth. This information will be controlled through a one-time pin (OTP), which will be sent to the applicant’s registered mobile number.

Another official said that the printable PDF format of e-DL and e-RC can be downloaded from the Transport Seva Citizen Portal and its link will be sent to the applicant’s registered mobile number on Sarathi and Vahan portal. He said that the PDF of e-DL and e-RC will have a QR code, which will confirm the authenticity of the documents. Also, the latest details of e-DL and e-RC will be available on the mParivahan app.
