Schools remain closed on this day. This is a limited holiday. But most schools have a holiday on this day (Raksha Bandhan 2025 Date).

Independence Day/Janam Ashtami (15 August 2025, Friday): India’s 79th Independence Day will be celebrated with great fanfare across the country. There will be flag hoisting and cultural programs in schools. Janam Ashtami will also be celebrated in some areas on the same day. It is a national holiday (Independence Day 2025).

Janmashtami (16 August 2025, Saturday, Janmashtami 2025 date): Schools remain closed in many states on Janmashtami, which is celebrated as the birth day of Lord Krishna. It is a gazetted holiday.

Ganesh Chaturthi (27 August 2025, Wednesday): This Hindu festival is dedicated to the worship of Lord Ganesha and is celebrated mainly in Maharashtra, Gujarat and South India. Schools also remain closed on this day.

Long Weekend in August 2025: Long Weekend in August

August 15, i.e. Independence Day, falls on a Friday. Most schools and offices have a Saturday holiday. In such a situation, August 15, 16 and 17, 2025 can be celebrated as a long weekend. If your school or office does not have a Saturday holiday but you want to go on a trip during this time, you can make it a long weekend by taking a Saturday off.

This month’s holidays include Ram Navami (April 6, Sunday), Birth Day of Sri Guru Nabha Das Ji (April 8, Tuesday), Mahavir Jayanti (April 10, Thursday), Vaisakhi (April 13, Sunday), Birth Day of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar (April 14, Monday), Good Friday (April 18, Friday) and Bhagwan Parshu Ram Janmabhoomi (April 29, Tuesday).

Holiday declared again in these states

In Pathankot, the deputy commissioner has ordered a half-day holiday on February 10, which will come into effect from noon onwards. However, there will be no holiday in schools and colleges where board or university examinations are scheduled.

In Uttar Pradesh too, all schools will remain closed on February 12, especially for classes 1 to 8. Apart from this, there will be a holiday on February 26 as well. In Varanasi, a holiday has been declared for all schools up to class 8 till February 14, and classes will be conducted online. In Ayodhya, in view of the large number of devotees during Magh Purnima, all schools will remain closed from February 11 to 14. This order will apply to government and private schools in urban areas, but the board exam dates will remain the same as before.

In Delhi, the Lieutenant Governor has declared a holiday in government offices and public sector undertakings on the occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti on February 12. In Mirzapur, schools will remain closed for students from nursery to class VIII from February 11 to 13, but teachers will perform their duties in the school.

Schools will remain closed for so many days this month

Apart from this, schools may also remain closed on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti on February 19 and Mahashivratri on February 26. Schools will be closed on February 16 and 23 as they are Sundays. In Jammu and Kashmir, schools up to class 5 are closed from December 10, 2024 and will remain closed till February 28, while schools from class 6 to 12 will reopen from March.

In Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh, holidays have been declared for 2 days on 15th and 16th January for children from class nursery to 8th. In Tamil Nadu too, it has been decided to keep all educational institutions including schools and colleges closed till January 19 on the occasion of Pongal. Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) has also declared holidays in all colleges from January 11 to 16.

Rajasthan: Schools will remain closed on Thursday in these districts

• Khairthal-Tijara, Jodhpur and Nagaur Collectors have declared holiday today on 15th January for students of class 1st to 5th in all government and non-government schools, Khairthal will also have holiday on 16th January.
• Ajmer, Beawar, Sawai Madhopur and Dungarpur Collectors have declared holiday till 16th January for children from pre-primary to class 8th.
• Holidays have been declared in schools in Alwar till 18th January.
• Bundi Collector has declared holiday till 16th January for children from class 1st to class 5th in all government and non-government schools.

School timings changed in Udaipur

• Udaipur Collector Arvind Poswal has changed the school timings in view of the effect of winter. This change will be effective from 15 to 18 January. School timings for students of class 1 to 8 have been kept from 10 am to 3 pm and for students of class 9 to 12 from 10 am.
• Action will be taken as per rules against schools that disobey the order. The timings of school teachers will remain the same. This order will be applicable to all government and private schools in the district.

Holidays extended in UP too

• The Ghaziabad district administration has issued an order to keep all schools from class 1 to 8 closed till January 18, 2025. All schools affiliated to all council, secondary (UP Board), CBSE, ICSE or other boards will remain completely closed for students till 18-01-2025. During this period, all the staff/employees of the school will remain present in the school and do departmental work.
• Instructions have been given to keep all schools up to class eight closed till January 16 in Moradabad, Rampur, Hamirpur, Sambhal, Lakhimpur, Kheri, Azamgarh, Ballia, Badaun and Shahjahanpur. The timing of schools from class 9th to 12th in Moradabad and Rampur has also been changed, now the classes will run from 10 am to 3 pm.
