The four new codes—wages, industrial relations, social security, and safety—they were already notified back in November. But a law without rules is just paper. Now, the Ministry is moving to get the rules finalized.

The Bureaucratic Process: A Countdown

The Announcement Happened. And then the date followed: April 1, 2026. That’s the government’s target to fully operationalize all four codes. They want to hit the new fiscal year running.

Draft Rules Coming: Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the updated draft rules will be pre-published shortly. This is the key regulatory step. They had old drafts, but apparently, those are outdated now.

The 45-Day Clock: Once the drafts are out, the government gives the public—businesses, unions, everyone—45 days to submit feedback. After that, they firm them up for the final notification. The whole thing is designed to modernize 29 fragmented laws.

The Worker’s Bottom Line

A senior official confirmed the basic protections aren’t changing much, but the framework is getting much cleaner.

Working Hours: Still 8 hours per day. That hasn’t shifted. But here’s the kicker: the new framework formalizes the option of overtime for workers, which they say is just international practice.

Social Security Push: The government’s goal is ambitious. They want to expand social security coverage to 100 crore workers by March 2026, up from 94 crore now. The coverage has already shot up from 19% in 2015 to over 64% in 2025.

Worker Protections: The codes mandate essential new features: a mandatory appointment letter, free health check-ups for workers 40 and above, equal work equal pay, and making equal opportunity for women across different shifts a reality.

The enforcement is going to be the next transformative step—it aims to be pro-worker while simplifying compliance for businesses. It’s messy, with every state needing to comply, but the countdown is on.

Modi government is soon going to give a big gift to the employees. We are talking about New Labor Codes. Most states are ready to implement these labor codes. The government can implement these four new labor codes in a phased manner. According to reports, the code related to salary and social security code may be implemented first.

After this the remaining two codes can be implemented. One is the Industrial Relations Code and the other is on job-specific safety, health and workplace conditions (OSH). However, no fixed date has been revealed when the new labor codes will come into force. The new labor codes are going to be of great benefit to the employees.

PM Modi had given indications that the government is in favor of providing a better working environment to the employees. PM Modi had said in a recent program that work from home ecosystem, flexible work places and flexible working hours are the needs of the future. The PM said, “You are also seeing the way the nature of jobs is changing with the changing times. The world is changing rapidly and we also have to be prepared at the same pace to take advantage of it.”

Employees are eagerly waiting for the implementation of 4 labor codes in the country for a long time. The Union Ministry of Labor and Employment had finalized the rules under these labor codes last year. Earlier it was being said that these labor codes will be implemented from the financial year 2022-23 i.e. from April 1, but it did not happen. After this it was said that these labor codes can be implemented from July 1. But due to non-preparation of drafts by many states, these could not be implemented. Let us know what are included in these four labor codes.

These are the four labor codes

The four labor codes being implemented by the government include the Wage/Wage Code, the Code on Industrial Relations, the Code on Work-specific Safety, Health and Workplace Conditions (OSH) and the Social and Occupational Safety Code. Significantly, the Ministry of Labor has incorporated 44 types of old labor laws into four major codes to improve labor laws. It is believed that the implementation of these labor codes will greatly benefit the employees.

Work days in the week will decrease

After the implementation of the new labor codes, the number of working days in the week of the employees will decrease. With the new rule, the working days of employees can be reduced from five to four in a week. That is, employees will get three days off in a week. But the daily working hours of the employees will increase. According to the rule, 48 hours work has to be done in a week. This means that one working day has to work for 12 hours.

The post New Labor Codes: New labor codes are being implemented for the employees from this day? date announced first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.
