Chennai’s skies are likely to open up during the first heavy spell of north-east monsoon in the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on November 14.

IMD released update

The IMD said a low pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal due to an upper air cyclonic circulation over southwest Bay of Bengal and south Andaman Sea during the next 24 hours. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a depression over west central Bay of Bengal around November 16.

School holiday in many districts

Authorities have declared holiday in schools in Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur and Cuddalore districts due to incessant rains in the districts. The forecast says that at least 15 districts including Chennai may be hit by heavy rain today.

The state government has announced a 2.73 per cent hike in Dearness Allowance (DA), which will be implemented from July 1, 2021. After the amendment, the DA of the employees has increased from 17.29 percent to 20.02 percent.

The arrears of payment of dearness allowance for the period from July 1, 2021 to December 31, 2022 will be credited to the General Provident Fund (GPF) account of the employees. However, the arrears of dearness allowance will be paid to the employees retiring on May 31, 2023. He is exempted from making any contribution to General Provident Fund during the last four months of service.

Lakhs of employees will be benefited

Payment of revised dearness relief for pensioners will be payable in February, 2023 along with pension of January, 2023. According to the orders issued on Monday, the dearness relief arrears from July 1, 2021 to December 31, 2022 will be paid in eight equal monthly installments starting from February, 2023 and payable in March, 2023.

Finance Minister T Harish Rao said that the state government’s decision to increase DA will benefit 4.40 lakh government employees and 2.88 lakh pensioners. According to the employees, dearness allowance for July 2021 has been issued and dearness allowance for January 2022, July 2022 and January 2023 is outstanding.

In the guidelines issued by the government, it has been said that there should be proper seating arrangement for the customers coming to the electricity offices to link Aadhaar and electricity connection. If the space is falling short, then a canopy should be installed. Not only this, TA/CA/CE level staff should be put on duty to monitor these counters. The complete process of Aadhaar linking should also be explained to the customers. Not only this, the government has also appointed an executive engineer to supervise the process of Aadhaar linking. If this work is slowing down or getting interrupted at any counter, SE will make additional arrangements to speed it up.

Money will not be taken

, if there are computers on the counter or if they are working slowly, then additional computers should be installed. The government has said that the work of Aadhaar linking should not be interrupted under any circumstances. The section officer has been given the responsibility to prevent corruption in the work of linking electricity connections with Aadhaar. Aadhaar-electricity connection is being linked free of cost.

Government has started special counters from 28 November to link the electricity connection account with Aadhaar. Earlier the facility of online linking was given.
