Apple may be preparing to introduce one of its most unconventional products yet. According to a new report, the company could unveil AirPods with built-in cameras alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series during its expected September launch event.

Rather than capturing photos or videos, the cameras are reportedly designed to power Apple’s artificial intelligence features by helping Siri understand the user’s surroundings.

AirPods with cameras could arrive sooner than expected

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has been developing camera-equipped AirPods under the codename B798, which was previously expected to launch in 2027.

However, Gurman now reports that another internal version, codenamed B790, appears much closer to release and could debut as early as this year.

The report also states that references to the B790 AirPods have already been found in iOS 27, indicating Apple is actively preparing the product.

Developer Sam Henri reportedly discovered similar references inside the iOS 27 beta last month, adding further weight to the speculation.
