An expressway is being built here. It also includes four-lane roads, which are providing convenience to people in commuting. But people have to pay toll tax to travel on these roads. However, there are some categories of people who have been given relief from toll tax by the Government of India.

Let us tell you that generally all types of vehicles, including private passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles and heavy commercial vehicles, have to pay tax to use national highways and expressways, but there are certain categories of people who get exemptions.

These people don’t have to pay toll tax.

Toll-free persons on highways and expressways across the country include the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Chief Justice, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Union Ministers, Chief Ministers of States, High Court Judges, Rajya Sabha Chairman, Lok Sabha Speaker, Chairman of State Legislative Council, State Legislative Assembly Speaker, Chief Justice of High Court and other Judges, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, Secretaries to the Government of India, Secretaries to the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha and many more.

Officers also get exemption

Not only this, Indians who have received awards from the Government of India also get exemption from toll tax. These include Param Vir Chakra winners, Ashok Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, Kirti Chakra, Shaurya Chakra winners. Apart from this, some other categories of people are also given exemption from toll tax, in which officers of the Ministry of Defense go for government work, officers of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force, paramilitary forces, central and armed forces do not charge toll tax in police uniform.

Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari had said about this pass that through the new annual Fastag, toll plazas can be crossed for just Rs 15. The price of this pass has been kept at Rs 3000, which will include 200 trips. One trip means crossing the toll plaza once.

The scheme of annual toll pass is going to start in the country on 15th August. With the help of this pass, you will not have to pay a hefty amount at the toll for one year. Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari had told about this pass that through the new annual fastag, toll plazas can be crossed for just 15 rupees. The price of this pass has been kept at Rs 3000, which will include 200 trips. One trip means crossing the toll plaza once. That means only 15 rupees will be spent per toll. Let’s know in detail about where this toll pass will be made and how it will work.

What is FASTag Annual Pass?

First of all, let’s understand what is FASTag Annual Pass? So this annual toll pass is a kind of prepaid toll scheme, which is specially designed for non-commercial private vehicles like cars, jeeps and vans. While announcing the new pass, Nitin Gadkari had said that it aims to address the long-standing concerns related to toll plazas located within a radius of 60 kilometers and simplify toll payments through a single, affordable transaction. By reducing waiting time at toll plazas, reducing congestion and reducing disputes, the annual pass aims to provide a fast and easy travel experience for millions of private vehicle owners.

The special thing is that for this people do not need to buy a new tag, rather it will be linked to your existing FASTag. Its condition is that your existing FASTag should be active and linked to your vehicle registration number. This scheme will be applicable only on national highways and expressways under NHAI and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). There is no need to recharge online repeatedly, making it especially useful for daily commuters. This pass is non-transferable. It can be used only with registered vehicles.

Where will FASTag Annual Pass work?

FASTag Annual Pass works only at toll plazas located on National Highways (NH) and National Expressways (NE) operated by NHAI. For example, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Mumbai-Nashik, Mumbai-Surat and Mumbai-Ratnagiri routes etc. On state highways or municipal toll roads, your FASTag will work normally and toll will be charged as usual. For example, Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway (Samriddhi Mahamarg), Atal Setu, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Bengaluru-Mysore Expressway and Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway. All of these are operated by state authorities.

How to activate Fastag Annual Pass

>> A notification has been issued by Indian Highway Management Company Limited (IHMCL) regarding activation of FASTag annual pass. IHMCL has answered all the questions related to this annual pass in the notification. Also, the method of activating the annual pass of FASTag has also been told.

>> According to IHMCL, FASTag annual pass can be activated only by visiting Rajmargyatra mobile app and NHAI portal. To activate this pass, the car driver will first have to verify the eligibility of his vehicle and the FASTag installed on it. Once the verification is complete, a payment of Rs 3000 will have to be made.

>> FASTag Annual Pass will be activated within 2 hours after confirmation of payment of Rs 3000 made by the user. This activation will happen on your existing FASTag only. You do not need to buy a new FASTag for FASTag Annual Pass. By making payment on FASTag Annual Pass, you will get validity for the next 1 year or up to 200 toll crossings.

There will be a saving of Rs 7000

The price of this pass has been kept at Rs 3000, which includes 200 trips. One trip means crossing the toll plaza once. This means only Rs 15 will be spent per toll. Currently, crossing the toll plaza 200 times costs around Rs 10,000, but in the new scheme, this work will cost only Rs 3000. This means that there will be a direct saving of around Rs 7000 for those driving passenger vehicles. This pass will be valid for 1 year. If you cross 200 tolls before the end of a year, then its validity will expire. After this you will have to recharge again.

The post FASTag Annual Pass Launching in 2 Days: Pay Only ₹15 Toll – Full Usage Guide Inside first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.

New FasTag Rule: Some rules have changed from 1st April today. You should also pay attention to these rules. Because these are going to have a direct impact on the life of a common man.

Meanwhile, big news has come out for the drivers in Maharashtra. Now FasTag has been made mandatory in vehicles at toll plazas here. Entry without FasTag may be difficult.

Most people use FASTag to avoid long queues at toll plazas. To make the FASTag process easier, the government changes its rules from time to time. Once again, some updates have been made in its rules. But this is not for all cities. It is only for Maharashtra. The Maharashtra government has made FASTag mandatory at all toll plazas from today (April 1, 2025). Its purpose is to reduce traffic jams at toll booths. Now payment will not be made in cash.

Let us tell you that FastTag is an electronic tag, which is installed on the front glass of the vehicle. We also have to recharge it from time to time on the same side. Just like we do our mobile phone. Whenever a vehicle passes through the toll plaza, the machine installed at the toll scans the tag on the vehicle. Then the money is automatically deducted from the wallet recharged with the card. After installing this tag on the vehicle, you do not need to stop at the toll and get a slip. There are many small toll plazas in Maharashtra where there is no facility of Fastag. Now the government is making it mandatory. Along with this, the entire system is also being updated.

FasTag works on RFID

Talking about FasTag, it works on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. After the FasTag is scanned, the payment is automatically made from the wallet. Many people also connect FasTag to the bank account. With its help, payment can be made from anyone. If you do this, then you do not need to stop anywhere. Your wait is over. Also, you get rid of the long jams at the toll plaza.

A new rule has been issued regarding FASTag. This rule is especially for Mumbai, which will be applicable on all toll plazas from April 1, 2025. Under this new rule, FASTag has been made mandatory in Mumbai.

It is being claimed that with the help of this technology, traffic will be improved. Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has implemented FASTag only system at all toll plazas.

Digital payment facility will become easier

Its purpose is to make toll payment easier and reduce long queues at toll booths. It is believed that this digital toll system will make the payment process faster and reduce the delay in manual toll collection.

If you don’t have fast tag then you will have to pay double toll

According to the report, those who do not have FASTag will have to pay double the toll. Whether they pay by cash, credit or debit card or UPI. This means that every vehicle should have FASTag. This rule has been implemented by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), which is promoting digital payment across the country and is gradually removing manual toll. The government has already issued its notification. School buses, light motor vehicles and state transport buses have been exempted from FASTag at 5 main points in Mumbai.

Emphasis on the need for technology

This policy was challenged in the Bombay High Court over the difficulties in transitioning to digital payments. Some people believed that it was unfair to those who are not digitally literate. But the court upheld it and said that it does not infringe on the rights of vehicle owners. While dismissing a PIL, the court stressed the need to adopt technology, which is the demand of today’s time.

There will be transparency in toll collection

This decision sends a strong message towards digital transformation. This move of FASTag will not only reduce traffic jams but will also reduce fuel expenses and promote transparency in toll collection. This system can be a challenge for those who are not yet familiar with digital payments.

Nitin Gadkari: Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday informed about the steps being taken by the government on toll related irregularities.

He said that the government is going to install audit cameras at plazas with high collection. After this, it will be audited through AI.

Awareness about AI is constantly increasing in India. In such a situation, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that NHAI is now considering installing audit cameras at toll plazas that collect more toll. After this, it will be audited using artificial intelligence (AI).

While speaking in Parliament on Thursday, the Union Minister also emphasized on the use of AI. Referring to the incident of Atraila Shiv Ghulam Plaza in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh in toll plaza collection, the Union Minister said that our aim is to strengthen the process of cash collection of invalid / non- fastag vehicles through AI audit. Along with this, strict monitoring of receipts and number of vehicles passing through toll plazas is also being considered. The Union Minister was answering the questions of the DMK MP on the rules made by the Central Government to deal with fraud related to toll collection on national highways.

Giving information about the upcoming projects, the Union Minister said that we are working on pilot projects of barrier-less toll plazas. Under this, NHAI has invited bids for Fastag and ANPR at five toll plazas on Gharaunda, Choryasi, Nemli, and Dwarka Expressway. Through this, we will move forward in the area of barrier-less toll plazas, while e-notice is proposed for non-Fastag vehicles, which will gradually eliminate cash from the toll collection system.

Toll plazas new rules- India is preparing to collect toll through ANPR cameras at toll plazas. This will ensure faster automatic toll payment and curb fraud.

There is going to be a radical change in the way toll fee is collected at toll plazas in the country. For this, automatic number plate recognition cameras i.e. ANPR cameras will be installed at toll plazas. With their help, toll tax will be deducted from the number plate of the vehicle instead of Fastag.

The work of installing the new system has also started at one toll each in Hisar and Rohtak districts of Haryana. After about two months, toll tax will start being deducted from the number plate of the vehicle at both these toll nakas. One advantage of this will also be that if a fake number plate is installed on the vehicle, then that too will be caught.

After the trial at these two toll plazas is successful, it will be implemented first in Haryana and then in other states of the country. Toll companies believe that this will stop fraud at toll plazas. When the new system is implemented, the vehicle’s number plate will also be linked to the bank account linked to Fastag so that as soon as the vehicle reaches the toll, the camera recognizes the number plate and deducts the toll tax.

This is the ANPR system

Automatic number plate recognition based scanning cameras and new computer systems are being installed at Ramayan Toll Plaza in Hisar and Rohtak Toll. These cameras recognize the number plates and make them digital. The special thing about these cameras is that these cameras will be very powerful and will scan the plate instantly.

The vehicle number and model will also be visible on the screen.

As soon as the vehicle comes near the toll, a red light will be lit. The vehicle will stand there until the operator turns the light green. Along with this, the vehicle number and model of the vehicle stopped to pay the toll will also be written on the screen. If the driver’s fastag is not working, then as soon as the number plate is scanned, a message will be sent to the toll company from the bank’s server. It will also tell whether this fastag is original or not.

HSRP contains complete details.

Now in India, vehicles are fitted with high-security registration plates i.e. HSRP. All the information related to the vehicle is available from such number plates. The government has started installing these special number plates in 2019 itself. The government then asked all passenger vehicles to install company fitted number plates.

After the opening of 24 kilometer section of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway from Mithapur to Sector-65, the rates of Kiranj toll in Palwal are going to increase three times. The increased rates will be implemented from Tuesday night.

Now the expressway has increased by 24 kilometers

Earlier, drivers were using the expressway from Sector 65 of Faridabad, but now it has started from Mithapur in Delhi. Hence, the expressway has been extended by 24 kilometres.

It is also claimed that the section from Delhi’s DND flyover to Mithapur will be opened by March next year. After this, this expressway will be completed. From here, the journey to Dausa in Rajasthan via Sohna will become fast.

Now you will have to pay 150 rupees instead of 50

Now, for a car passing through this toll, one will have to pay Rs 150 per side, whereas earlier it used to cost Rs 50. The monthly pass for a car which was made for Rs 1650 till now, will now be made for Rs 5030.

It is worth mentioning that last year, NHAI had opened the 26 km stretch of the expressway from Sector-65 to Nuh for vehicular movement. Seven months ago, in April, toll rates were increased at Kiranj toll plaza.

The government is bringing a new system for toll collection. This system is going to give great relief to the people, because with this system there will be no need to pay toll for 20KM, otherwise earlier tax was collected at every toll plaza.

Apart from this, the hassle of stopping at toll plazas everywhere will also end. Toll tax will be collected through satellite.

Actually, a notification has been issued by the government. Under this notification, toll will be started soon through Global Navigation Satellite System. For this, the government has also done a trial on 4 highways. After the trial, the government has decided that now it will be implemented on highways and other places. The Road Transport Ministry has issued the rules.

How will this system work?

This new system of the government will be based on GPS. Toll tax will be collected from satellite with the help of GPS. As soon as the distance of 20 KM is completed, the toll will be deducted automatically. According to the notification, GPS will first be installed on the vehicles. A special lane will be prepared for vehicles with GNSSOBU and if other vehicles come on this lane, double toll will be charged from them. On the other hand, vehicles which do not have national permit will be allowed to travel 20 km in both directions in a day. According to the current rule, if a person travels from one toll to another, then the full fare has to be paid.

Rules for travelling more than 20 km

As stated in the notification, if a person travels on a highway, expressway, tunnel or bridge, then the journey up to 20 km will be free. This means that no toll tax will have to be paid, but if a person travels more than 20 km, then the toll will be charged according to the distance travelled. This means that toll will be charged for the entire distance.

If you commit this mistake, you will be charged double the amount.

There are plans to make a separate lane on highways and expressways for toll collection through Global Navigation Satellite System. It has been said in the notification that if vehicles without GPS enter this lane, double the toll tax will be charged from them.

How will the toll be deducted?

The satellite system will first find out the distance of your vehicle through GPS, then deduct the toll by recognizing your number plate, fastag or any other thing. The toll will be deducted automatically. You will be informed through SMS once the toll is deducted.

What will be the benefits of the new system?

Owners of private vehicles equipped with this device will not have to pay any fee for travelling up to 20 km daily on highways and expressways.

Compared to the current system, the toll tax deducted through the new system will be cheaper.

Under the new rule, the vehicle owner will be charged for the total distance travelled only if the distance covered is more than 20 kilometres on highways and expressways.

Trial done on these highways

The Ministry of Road Transport said in July that it has decided to implement satellite-based toll collection on selected national highways on a pilot basis as an additional facility with Fastag. This system has been trialed on the Bengaluru-Mysore section of NH-275 in Karnataka and the Panipat-Hisar section of NH-709 in Haryana.

Toll plazas may be removed from across the country in the coming days. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is moving towards the use of new technology for toll collection. Automatic number plate recognition system and GPS based toll collection system are to be implemented within the next few months.

Meanwhile, experts from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have suggested that some stringent restrictions should be put in place towards making GPS mandatory in vehicles for toll collection. If possible, it should be linked to vehicle insurance. That is, the vehicle should be insured only when GPS is fitted.

Actually, currently toll collection is being done through Fastag, but all toll nakas will have to be removed when toll collection starts through GPS and automatic number plate recognition system. NHAI believes that a large number of people in the country will not install GPS in the vehicle or cover the number plate with any cloth or paper to avoid toll.

Similarly, many would like to avoid toll by rigging. Under such a situation, concrete arrangements should be made for toll collection through the new system. GPS should be added to the mandatory conditions of insurance for every vehicle to be fitted with GPS. If a vehicle does not have GPS and it is not active, then it should not be insured. If a person does not keep sufficient balance in the wallet attached to the vehicle according to the toll, then arrangements should be made to impose fine on him also.

Time-saving exercise: The Ministry wants that people should not get delayed in their travel due to toll plazas on all its National Highways and Expressways. At present, due to toll collection through FASTag, the time taken at toll has come down.

recovery plan in this way

Through GPS, it will be measured that how many kilometers the vehicle has driven on National Highway and Expressway. After that the number plate of the vehicle will be scanned through the cameras. Which will tell the system that which company’s FASTag wallet is installed in the vehicle. After that the toll will be deducted according to the distance.

these new jobs may have to be

● With the new system, it will be mandatory to install GPS in all vehicles in the next one year.

It will be completely mandatory for automobile companies to install GPS in new vehicles.

● The Transport Department will issue the registration number of the vehicle on the basis of GPS tracker only.

● Sufficient balance has to be kept in the FASTag wallet. If there is no money, one to two weeks time will be given.

● Fastag will be blocked if recharge is not done within the stipulated time.

● Even after FASTag wallet is blocked, RC will also be blocked if recharge is not done within the stipulated period.

Now people can soon get rid of the jam at the toll plaza. An attempt was made to speed up the traffic on the toll with the help of FASTag, but now with the help of GPS based toll collection, only the toll plazas will be eliminated. According to the report published in Mint, 2 people related to this matter have confirmed this.

Experts in the matter have said that some changes will also have to be made in the Motor Vehicle Act for the GPS-based toll system. This plan is being prepared in collaboration with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Sources say that the technology of GPS based toll is in India and it can also be started in a very short time but preference will be given to greenfield expressways and highways only.

How will the toll be deducted from GPS?

Under this technology, you have to fix a GPS device in your car. As soon as you bring the vehicle on the tolled highway, the calculation of toll will start and the money will be deducted according to the distance you have traveled on that road. This amount will be deducted directly from your bank account, so you will also have to give information about your bank account to the government. Also you have to register your vehicle under this system. With the help of GPS based toll system, the discount on toll to the local people may be stopped.

What will be the benefit?

If the GPS based toll system is implemented, then people will not have to pay fixed charges, but they will have to pay the same amount as far as they have traveled. This will also get rid of the problem of jams near toll plazas. Along with this, the cases of violence coming to the toll plaza every day will also end.

What is the status of FASTag now, FASTag was installed in 16 percent cars in 2017-18, which increased to 96.3 percent in 2021-22. In 2017-18, a total toll of Rs 3,532 crore was collected from FASTag. This increased to Rs 33,274 crore in 2021-22

The post Toll plazas on the highway will end, now the government is going to bring a new toll system instead of FASTag first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.
