Uttar Pradesh Digital Media Policy 2024 was approved in the cabinet meeting held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

In this, provisions have been made for strict legal action for posting objectionable or anti-national posts on social media. Under this, provision has been made for punishment up to life imprisonment. Along with this, a provision has also been made to give advertisements to agencies and firms working on social media.

It is worth noting that till now action was taken under Section 66 (E) and 66 (F) of the IT Act for objectionable posts on social media. But now the Yogi government has come up with a new policy to control it. Under this, if found guilty, a provision has been made for punishment ranging from three years to life imprisonment (in anti-national activities).

This is the intention of the government.

Actually, the Yogi government has brought this policy to convey the information about its public welfare, beneficial schemes and achievements to the public. Under this, sharing of content, videos, tweets, posts and reels based on the schemes and achievements of the state government on different social media platforms like X, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube will be encouraged by giving advertisements. The government hopes that this will also provide employment to a large number of youth.

This much amount will be paid per month

Under the Digital Media Policy, content providers have been divided into four categories to avail the benefit of advertising. This classification has been done on the basis of subscribers and followers for each of X, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. The maximum payment for account holders, operators, influencers of X, Facebook and Instagram has been fixed at Rs 5 lakh, 4 lakh, 3 lakh and 3 lakh per month. While for videos, shorts, podcasts on YouTube the category wise maximum limit has been fixed at Rs 8 lakh, 7 lakh, 6 lakh and 4 lakh per month.
