UPI Limit : There is great news for those making digital payments. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has increased the UPI transaction limits. The new limits will come into effect from September 15, 2025.

This will especially benefit those who have to make high-value payments like insurance premium, loan EMI, stock market investment, government fees or big travel bookings on a daily basis.

Where was the limit increased?

Capital Market and Insurance: Earlier the limit was 2 lakhs, now it has been increased to 5 lakhs per transaction. You can make payments up to 10 lakhs in a day.

Government e-marketplace and tax: Now transactions up to Rs 5 lakh can be done instead of Rs 1 lakh.

Travel Booking: Now tickets can be booked for up to Rs 5 lakh, instead of Rs 1 lakh; daily limit is up to Rs 10 lakh.

Credit card bill payment : Now payment up to Rs 5 lakh is possible at one time, but the daily cap has been kept at Rs 6 lakh.

Loan and EMI Collection : Now up to Rs 5 lakh per transaction and daily payment up to Rs 10 lakh can be made.

Jewellery Shopping: Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh per transaction, daily cap fixed at Rs 6 lakh.

Banking Services (Term Deposit): Limit on digital onboarding now up to ₹5 lakh, earlier ₹2 lakh.

Foreign Exchange Payment (BBPS) : Now transactions up to Rs 5 lakh, daily cap also Rs 5 lakh.

Digital account opening : The limit will remain at Rs 2 lakh as before.

On which transactions the limit has not changed?

This change will only apply to Person to Merchant (P2M) payments. That is, it will only apply to payments made to shopkeepers, companies or services. The Person to Merchant limit will remain the same as before at Rs 1 lakh per day.

Why is this change important?

With the new limits, users will not need to pay large amounts repeatedly in small installments.

Insurance premium or loan EMI can be paid in one go.

There will be ease in stock market and government fees.

Buying big ticket items or jewellery will also be possible through UPI.

Akash Sinha, CEO of Cashfree Payments, said that the decision to increase the UPI limit to Rs 5 lakh per transaction and Rs 10 lakh daily has come at the right time. Now traders will be able to provide digital checkout in a single click even for large payments and will also get instant settlement.

UPI Payment Limit Extend: As the trend of digital payment has increased rapidly in the country, the needs of the people are also increasing at the same pace. Especially for those who do big transactions every day. But due to the daily limit of Rs 1 lakh of UPI (UPI Payment Limit), they have to face many problems.

In such a situation, the question arises whether the daily limit of UPI can be increased. If yes, then how? And when can it be increased? What are the rules of banks and UPI apps for this? And who provides the facility to increase the limit?

What is the limit in UPI?

Through UPI, you can transfer up to 1 lakh rupees in a day. This limit depends on banks and UPI apps, such as BHIM, Gpay, PhonePe or Paytm. However, most apps give a limit of up to one lakh rupees. But this depends on the bank and UPI, which you can increase later.

How to increase limit in UPI?

To increase the UPI limit, you have to fulfill some simple conditions. The bank looks at your transaction history, account activity, KYC status and account opening date. If your account is good and active, then the chances of increasing the limit are higher.

BHIM App: This app follows NPCI rules. But in this you may have to check the policy of the bank.

Google Pay: In this, you have to add a bank account that supports higher payment limit. For this, you have to do KYC.

PhonePe: Through this app you can request to increase the limit. Or you will have to update the linked account.

Paytm: For this, you must be verified. After which you can request to increase the limit by clicking on “Manage Bank Accounts” in the app.

So should everyone increase the limit?

The question arises whether one should increase the limit first? Actually, increasing the limit is as beneficial as it increases the risks. Suppose your phone falls, gets stolen or some fraud happens with you, then your account can get emptied in a moment.

Because UPI payment is done in one click, which cannot be withdrawn. So increase the limit only when you need it. However, with increasing the limit, you also have to take care of security. Keep your phone and app locked with UPI PIN, so that you can avoid fraud.

But do you know that the transaction limit (UPI Transaction Limit) is fixed on different UPI payment apps like Paytm , GPay and PhonePe . Know what is the limit on which app…

UPI payment limit

Bank 2 Bank real time transfer takes place in the UPI payment system . That’s why different banks have fixed different daily limits for this. According to the guidelines of the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) , a transaction of Rs 1 lakh can be done every day from UPI. Although some small banks have fixed its limit up to Rs 25,000.

Hourly limit on Paytm

Paytm app is very popular among people for UPI payment. The daily maximum limit of UPI payment on this app (UPI Daily Transfer Limit) is Rs 1 lakh only. At the same time, you can do maximum 20 UPI transactions with this app in a day. But the UPI payment limit on Paytm also varies according to the hour.

You cannot transfer more than Rs 20,000 on Paytm within 1 hour. At the same time, every hour you can do only a maximum of 5 UPI transactions with this app.

UPI payment on PhonePe, GPay

Apart from Paytm, apps like PhonePe and Google Pay are also popular among people for UPI payment. The daily transfer limit on these too is Rs 1 lakh. While GPay offers the facility of 10 transactions in a day, while on PhonePe this limit is up to 10 or 20 depending on the bank.

There is no hourly limit on both these apps. But one special thing is that if a person sends you a money request of more than Rs 2,000 on these apps, then these apps halt it.

UPI payment limit: Till now UPI payment is completely free. More than 20 crore transactions are done with its help on a daily basis. You know that NPCI has also fixed the limit for UPI payment.

UPI, an instant payment system developed by the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI), has become the most popular medium of online payment. On a daily basis, more than 20 crore transactions are done from it, whose value is in thousands of crores. UPI uses IMPS infrastructure and within seconds, money is transferred from one account to another. This means of payment is completely free, so it is also so popular. Did you know that there is a limit for UPI transactions as well?

BHIM UPI limit is Rs 1 lakh

As we know, with the help of UPI, transactions can be done 24 hours a day. According to the information available on the NPCI website, a maximum amount of Rs 2 lakh can be transacted through UPI at a time. If a user transfers with the help of BHIM UPI, then he can transfer a maximum of Rs 1 lakh in one transaction. According to the information available on the NPCI website, the limit for one day from a bank account is only Rs 1 lakh.

There are mainly three types of limits

NPCI has given the freedom to all the banks to decide its limit according to their convenience. This limit may be different for different banks. There are mainly three types of limit regarding UPI Payment. The first limit is the maximum transaction value in a day. The second limit is the maximum number of transactions in a single time and the third limit is the maximum number of transactions in a day.

Up to 10 fund transfers can be made

According to the information available on the HDFC Bank website, with the help of HDFC Bank UPI, a maximum of 10 fund transfers can be done in a day. The value of the total transaction cannot exceed Rs 1 lakh. For new users, the limit for the first 24 hours is Rs 5000.

Which bank has the limit?

State Bank of India customers can do a maximum transaction of Rs 1 lakh in a day with the help of UPI. Similarly, for Bank of Baroda this limit is Rs 1 lakh, for Punjab National Bank this limit is Rs 1 lakh, for Axis Bank Rs 1 lakh and for ICICI Bank also Rs 1 lakh. ICICI Bank customers can do a maximum of 10 transactions in 24 hours. For Google Pay users, the bank has fixed a limit of 25 thousand.

The post UPI payment limit: How much money can I transfer with UPI at a time?
