This new feature will be rolled out from October 8th and will be based on biometric data stored in Aadhaar. This move is in line with recent RBI guidelines that allow alternative authentication.

UPI Payment: A major step has been taken towards making digital payments easier and more secure in the country. Now, users transacting through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) will no longer need to enter a PIN for payments. Instead, they will be able to approve their transactions using facial recognition or fingerprint. This new feature will come into effect from October 8. This move is in line with recent RBI guidelines that allow alternative authentication.

What are the details?

NPCI (which operates UPI) is going to showcase this feature at the Global Fintech Festival in Mumbai. This will make digital payments faster, safer, and more convenient. According to a report in the Economic Times, this new feature will authenticate payments using biometric data stored in the Indian government’s Aadhaar system. This means that a user’s face or fingerprint will be matched with their Aadhaar data, allowing payments to proceed.

New RBI Guidelines

This move is in line with recent guidelines from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which allowed alternative authentication methods for digital transactions. This is expected to improve both security and user experience in digital payments.

UPI Experience Will Be Easier

Currently, users are required to enter a 4- or 6-digit PIN for every UPI transaction. Once the new feature is implemented, payments will be instantly authenticated using a face scan or fingerprint sensor. This will reduce transaction time, increase security, and make the user experience more seamless. Experts say that biometric authentication will reduce the likelihood of fraud, as face or fingerprints are difficult to copy by another person. However, strong technical protocols will be adopted between NPCI and UIDAI to ensure data security and privacy.

The post UPI transaction rules are changing, this is how you can make payments from October 8. first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.

After the change in UPI rules in August, NPCI is going to make big digital payments easier. Now the transaction limit is being increased which will come into effect from 15 September 2025. The limit on insurance loan investment etc. will increase in person-to-merchant transactions. There will be a change in the transaction limit in areas like capital market investment travel booking loan payment. However, the limit for person-to-person transactions will remain Rs 1 lakh.

There were many changes in the rules of UPI in the beginning of August last month. At the same time, now once again the National Payments Corporation of India i.e. NPCI is going to make big digital payments easier through Unified Payments Interface i.e. UPI. Yes, this time it has been announced to increase the transaction limit. These new rules will come into effect from 15 September 2025 this month. That is, those running Gpay-PhonePe should know them now.

These new changes will be applicable especially on person-to-merchant i.e. P2M transactions. In simple words, if you pay insurance premium, pay loan EMI or invest in the market. However, the limit for person-to-person transactions i.e. sending money to family or friends will remain Rs 1 lakh per day as before. There will be no change in this right now. Let’s know what is changing in UPI limit…

What is changing in UPI limit?

Capital Market Investment and Insurance : Here you will soon be able to do transactions of up to Rs 5 lakh per transaction instead of Rs 2 lakh and maximum of Rs 10 lakh in 24 hours.

Government e-marketplace and tax payment: Its limit will also be increased from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh per transaction.

Travel booking: Now Rs 5 lakh per transaction instead of Rs 1 lakh, daily cap will be up to Rs 10 lakh.

Credit card bill payment: Up to Rs 5 lakh at a time, but a maximum of Rs 6 lakh per day can be paid.

Loan and EMI collection: Its limit will also be increased from Rs 5 lakh per transaction to a maximum of Rs 10 lakh per day.

Jewellery purchase: After the new limit, you will be able to make payment of up to Rs 2 lakh per transaction instead of Rs 1 lakh, daily cap up to Rs 6 lakh.

Term Deposit: After the new limit, here also you will be able to make Rs 5 lakh per transaction which was earlier Rs 2 lakh.

There has been no change in digital account opening, its limit will still remain 2 lakhs. Apart from this, foreign exchange payment through BBPS will soon be Rs 5 lakh per transaction and daily cap will be up to 5 lakhs. NPCI says that these changes will greatly benefit people and businessmen. This will also make it easier to make large digital payments. These changes will further promote cashless transactions.

The Reserve Bank of India has made it flexible by further relaxing its rules to promote UPI payments. With the new change of RBI, investing in mutual fund SIP through UPI payment has become easier.

Along with this, UPI payment for online shopping, hotel booking, OTT platform subscription has been made easier than before. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has said that it will increase the number of users for UPI payments. The RBI governor has said on 7 December 2022 that once the UPI customer gives consent to block money in his bank account, the merchant will be allowed to debit multiple times up to the maximum amount instead of allowing one payment at present.

The new changes in UPI will make it easier for customers to keep money for investment purposes such as stock market purchases, online shopping, hotel bookings etc. According to the new rules, UPI customers can make recurring payments for mutual fund SIPs, subscriptions to OTTs such as Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, music streaming apps Spotify and Apple Music.

This is possible through the UPI Autopay facility. UPI payment system can also be used to make payments on e-commerce platforms Amazon, Flipkart. For this, either a virtual payment address has to be entered or payment can be made by scanning the QR code available on the online shopping platform. The merchant needs the customer’s consent to block the amount in the customer’s bank account for recurring payments or one-time payment orders.

After the change in the new rules, the merchant will be able to debit the maximum amount multiple times after the permission. Explain that at present, once the consent is obtained from the customer, a merchant can do only one debit to get the payment. While after the new change, the merchant will be able to do multiple debits from the customer’s bank account. This can be done after obtaining the consent of the customer for the maximum amount sanctioned.

Example,

if you book a hotel now, then you will have to pay the booking amount first and then make the second payment after staying in the hotel. However, after the implementation of the new rules, the hotel can create an order to receive payments through UPI. The Hotel can debit Your Bank Account at any point of time up to the maximum amount permitted by You without the need to open the Payment App again and again.
