If you also use apps like Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm, then this news is useful for you. A big change is going to happen from August 1, 2025 for those who make payments through UPI.

These changes will directly affect common people, shopkeepers, freelancers and merchants dependent on digital transactions. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has changed some rules to make UPI transactions more secure, faster and server friendly and the new rules will come into effect from August 1, 2025.

NPCI has taken this decision in view of the increased server load and failed transactions in the last few months. In the past months, due to the rapidly increasing traffic on the UPI server, the incidents of failed and slow transactions have increased. The purpose of these new rules is to reduce the pressure on the server, so that the UPI network works fast and uninterrupted.

Limit on checking balance fixed

From August 1, UPI users will be able to check balance only 50 times a day from any one app. If you use two different apps, then this limit will be applied separately on each app. During peak hours (10 am to 1 pm and 5 pm to 9:30 pm) balance check will be banned or access will be limited so that server load is reduced.

Balance update will be available after every payment.

Now after every successful payment, the bank itself will tell you how much balance is left in your account through SMS or in-app notification. This will eliminate the need for shopkeepers, freelancers, small businessmen to check the balance again and again.

Autopay now only during non-peak hours

Auto payments like Netflix, Amazon Prime, EMI or SIP will now be processed only during non-peak hours. Autopay will happen before 10 am, between 1 pm to 5 pm and after 9:30 pm. There will be no autopay transactions during peak hours.

Check the status of failed or pending transactions:

Now if a transaction fails or is pending, its status can be checked only after at least 90 seconds. Transaction status can be checked only 3 times a day. There will be a gap of at least 45-60 seconds each time.

Banks will have to get the UPI system audited.

Now every bank will have to get its UPI system audited once a year. The first report will have to be submitted by 31 August 2025. Payment reversal (chargeback) can be demanded only 10 times in 30 days. Basic UPI features like money transfer, payment by QR scan or merchant transactions will not be affected by these changes.

The post UPI user alert: UPI users will be able to check balance only this many times in a day first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.

There is a good news for crores of people who transact through UPI . Yes, from today i.e. June 16, transactions through UPI have become even faster. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has now reduced the process time for payment to 10 seconds.

UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is an instant payment system developed by NPCI to facilitate transactions between banks through mobile phones. According to the recent circular of NPCI, transactions including money transfer and refund will now be completed in 10 to 15 seconds instead of 30 seconds. In this way, from June 16, the time taken to verify the address in UPI payment will now take only 10 seconds as compared to the earlier 15 seconds.

How many times can you check the balance in a day?

NPCI said that the amendment in the process time is aimed at improving the customer experience. According to another circular of NPCI, customers will soon be able to check their account balance a maximum of 50 times a day through their UPI app. However, according to an expert, there is no limit on checking bank account balance in a day yet and the limit of 50 has been introduced keeping in mind the systemic efficiency.

SEBI has recently made changes in the rules for UPI transactions

Let us tell you that there have been many developments regarding UPI recently. On one hand, SEBI has said that the transactions done through UPI in the securities market are being strengthened in terms of security. To strengthen the investors, the market regulator is developing a new capability called ‘SEBI Check’. This new tool will enable verifying the authenticity of UPI identity by scanning the QR code or entering the UPI ID and verifying the bank details like account number and IFSC code of the registered intermediary.

The post UPI user alert!

If you have a bank account or you use UPI, then it is very important for you to read this news. Because from next month the bank is going to make an important change.

Actually, from April 1, the bank is closing the accounts of those users linked to UPI apps like Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm whose mobile number has been inactive for a long time.

Because of this, banks are taking this decision

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has directed banks and these apps to remove such numbers by March 31. The purpose of this change is to solve the problems caused by inactive or recycled mobile numbers. Inactive or recycled mobile numbers cause problems in transactions.

Let us tell you that if a number is not used for voice calls, SMS or data for 90 days, then it becomes inactive. Such numbers are again given to new users. In such a situation, when these numbers are linked to your bank and other financial services, then it can cause problems.

After April 1, such bank accounts will be deleted every week

Mobile number is necessary for any payment. If there is any problem with your number, the transaction may fail. Many users link multiple numbers to their bank accounts or UPI apps. If any of these numbers remains inactive for months, it will be deleted.

To prevent transaction-related issues, NPCI has mandated that banks and UPI apps update the list of deleted numbers every week. Any inactive or recycled number after April 1 will be removed from the bank’s system immediately. If you want to keep your bank account or UPI ID active, recharge it immediately.

If you also use Google Pay to pay electricity bills, then you are going to get a big shock. Apps offering many services from UPI to bill payment have now started increasing the burden on customers. Everyone has started charging convenience fees for bill payment, Google Pay is also not behind in this race because now Google has also started charging convenience charges from users.

Now you will have to pay a charge for these services

According to the report of Economic Times, if you use credit or debit card for bill payment, then a charge of 0.5% to 1% will be taken from you, apart from this charge you will also have to pay GST. Let us remind you that till now Google Pay did not charge any additional charge from users for bill payments. At present, Google Pay has not given any official information regarding the convenience charge.

Charge is being applied on mobile phone too

The Economic Times report also mentions that since a year, Google Pay has been charging users a convenience fee of Rs 3 on mobile charges. The report states that when a customer used a credit card to pay the electricity bill, the app charged the user a convenience fee of Rs 15. This fee is being shown in the app under the name of processing fee for debit/credit card transactions, which also includes GST.

Will there be charges on UPI transactions as well?

There is currently no information about the charge on UPI transactions through Google Pay. According to global service firm PwC, stakeholders have to spend 0.25 percent on the UPI transaction process. Now it seems that to cover these expenses, fintech companies are adopting new revenue models. UPI transactions are completely free till now. There have been many demands to impose charges on UPI as well, but till now it has been kept free by the government.

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has issued major instructions regarding UPI.

The organization that operates UPI has directed third party apps like PhonePe and Google Pay and banks to close such UPI IDs in which no transaction has taken place for a year. Before doing this, users have also been asked to send notification through email or message. NPCI has given time till 31st December for this.

With this step of NPCI, UPI transactions are expected to become more secure. Apart from this, many wrong transactions will also be stopped. After the instructions, now all the apps and banks will verify the UPI ID of inactive customers and the mobile number associated with it. If there is no credit or debit within 1 year, the UPI ID will be closed.

There will be a reduction in wrong transactions.

If no transaction has been made using this ID for a year, it will be stopped. From the new year, customers will not be able to transact with these IDs. NPCI has received many complaints of wrong transactions, in view of which this step is being taken.

Many times it happens that people change their mobile number and do not switch the UPID associated with it. Someone else gets this number and the UPID remains activated there. In such a situation, if someone sends money to that number, it will be received by the person who now has that number.

What is UPI?

Full form of UPI is Unified Payment Interface (UPI). This is a unique method of instant online payment. NPCI is the creator and operator of UPI. You can use it by generating UPI ID on Bhim, Google Pay, Phone Pay or any bank’s app. There is no additional charge to use UPI.

The post UPI User Alert!
